The first and second coupling parts are configured to connect the sealing wafer to the collecting bag. The first coupling part comprises a first base portion (33), a second base portion (35) and a connecting portion (37) extending between the first and second base portions. The first base portion is arranged radially closer to the stoma-receiving opening than the second base portion. The first coupling part comprises an enclosed volume of air (10). The enclosed volume of air is enclosed at least in part by the first base portion, the second base portion and the connecting portion.

Abstract: The invention relates to a device for cleaning a stoma in a human or animal body. The object of the invention is to provide a device as described in the introduction which completely abuts the skin's surface, irrespective of the location of the stoma on the body and irrespective of the person's or animal's build. In order to achieve that object, the device is according to the invention characterised in that the circular contact edge of the container is provided with a circular flexible collar comprising at least a first circumferential edge and a second circumferential edge, which first circumferential edge and second circumferential edge enclose an air chamber when placed on the body.

Abstract: A stoma guard for ostomy patients that is applied directly to the ostomy pouch. The guard prevents blunt force trauma, helps the user conceal protruded stoma and protects against daily impacts that can harm stoma region. The stoma guard has no sharp corners to prevent leakage and to increase maneuverability. The stoma guard is comprised of a rigid semi circular dome shaped guard and a crescent shaped applicator that secures the guard directly to the ostomy pouch. The guard has a convex shape facing outward that protects the stoma area once secured to the ostomy pouch. The stoma guard is sized to conform around the upper part of the ostomy pouch where the stoma is located. The stoma guard includes an opening at the base permitting flow of waste material. The stoma guard does not need to be removed when emptying waste from the ostomy pouch.

Abstract: A stoma seal is described for a controlled evacuation ostomy appliance. The stoma seal may have a liquid-responsive property, such as hydrophobic, hydrophilic or absorptive. The stoma seal may have a non-smooth surface, e.g., at a microstructure scale. The non-smooth surface may consist of tortuous channels, protruding seals, or a confronting apertured or porous layer. The liquid-responsive property and/or the non-smooth surface may facilitate separation of flatus from faecal matter and/or facilitate venting of flatus while obstructing stool.

Abstract: Provided is a body attachment wafer for attaching an ostomy device to a wearer. The body attachment wafer includes a plastic film having an opening therein, a layer of adhesive coated onto one side of the plastic film, and a stiffening layer releasably attached to the plastic film on the side thereof opposite to the side coated with adhesive. The layer of adhesive comprises a region surrounding the opening in the plastic film in which the thickness of the layer of adhesive is decreasing in a direction towards the circumference of the plastic film, the layer of adhesive having its largest thickness adjacent to the opening in the plastic film. The adhesive consists of a silicone gel adhesive having a softness exceeding 8 mm.

Abstract: A stoma shield for ostomy patients for covering a stoma while permitting increased maneuverability of the patient without cutting off flow within a medical device such as a colostomy bag. The stoma shield for ostomy patients includes a curved upper end and a pair of curved downward extensions extending from its lower end so as to define a curved notch. Any medical device extending from a stoma will pass under the notch so as to allow fluid flow regardless of positioning of the patient. A pair of elongated receiver slots allow connection of a strap to secure the stoma shield to a patient's body and allows the shield to be rotated for a comfortable position.

The structure and placement of the protector in relation to the opening prevent accidental closure of the bag opening to the stoma or compression of the bag when a user connects a belt to his or her waist area, so as to provide an adequate drainage area within the bag. By changing the characteristics of the convex shell in such sections, it is possible to control the bending of the shell. The shell also makes it possible to keep the area around the stoma more stable and resistant towards collapsing, while providing improved flexibility in the peristomal area for better comfort.

The lower end provides a waste containment area that may include a hydrophilic compound for absorbing liquid waste and/or effervescent agents and waste control ingredients. The primary bag may be closed and stuffed into the secondary containment bag which is attached to and surrounds the lower end portion of the primary bag. The top edge of the secondary containment bag has a seal that is closed after the primary bag has been stuffed inside.

The sealing member has a fixed base member defining an opening having a first diameter and a resilient sealing element comprising a stoma receiving orifice defining an inner boundary. The sealing member is also provided with at least one adjustment member coupled between the fixed base member and the resilient sealing element. This permits a patient wearing an ostomy bag to shower or bathe without getting his or her ostomy bag wet. In some embodiments, the ostomy-bag cover is constructed such that the patient can engage in water related activities, including swimming, while wearing the ostomy-bag cover over the ostomy bag and prevent the ostomy bag from getting wet. In some embodiments, the ostomy-bag cover includes a resealable opening configured to allow the patient to empty the ostomy bag without the need to remove the ostomy-bag cover. In other embodiments, the ostomy-bag cover includes a waterproof exhaust vent to allow air to be removed from the ostomy-bag cover.

Abstract: Provided is a cap device for home use to temporarily cover the stoma resulting from a urostomy, colostomy or ileostomy procedure. It provides a favorable means of preventing leakage during routine cleaning around the stoma during the ostomy pouch replacement process. Diametrically opposed loops project from the edge of the flange and form pockets. Also included is an ostomy pouch having a stoma receiving opening surrounded by a stiffly flexible ring having diametrically opposed loops that cooperate with the pockets on the flange loops. An adhesive coating is provided on the flexible ring and there is a mechanical interlock between the ring and flange. When the loops on the flexible ring are aligned with the pockets on the flange the flange and ring may be adhesively interlocked to attach the pouch to the body flange.

Abstract: The present invention provides methods and devices for the abatement of noise emanating from surgically created abdominal stomas. In one embodiment, the present invention provides a sound abatement device for an abdominal stoma. The device includes a noise suppressor formed of sound dampening material, which defines an opening and cavity suitable in size and shape for receiving and enveloping a stoma formed through a body wall of an individual. The device further includes a support arm extending from the noise suppressor, which includes a first end connected to the noise suppressor and a second end disposed opposite thereof. The device further includes a base member disposed proximate the second end of the support arm, which includes an attachment for connection to an individual. The device also includes an attachment feature for releasable attachment of the second end of the support arm to the base.

Abstract: A method of providing a stoma with a removable connection for a receptacle includes securing an implant onto the stoma of a patient, wherein the implant has an axial interior section for fixation inside the body and an axial exterior section extending outwards from the body, a free end of the exterior section accommodates mounting of a detachable device, and a distal portion of the interior section includes an anchoring section, extending radially from the distal portion of the interior section. The anchoring section has an inner anchoring ring, an outer anchoring ring and at least one connection member configured and dimensioned for resiliently connecting the inner and outer anchoring rings in a manner to provide axial resilience and anchorage to the anchoring section such that the anchoring section is able to respond to movements and absorb the shear of the implant in relation to adjacent organs.

Abstract: An improved ostomy bag comprises an outwardly facing irrigation line attachment adapter. A removable vent housing may be attached to the attachment adapter, where the vent housing is attached during normal operation of the ostomy bag, where the vent housing may comprise a charcoal filter and a scent absorbing medium for reducing odors which may vent from the ostomy bag. The vent housing is attached with quick-connect connectors, and is easily removed so that a conduit may be attached to the attachment adapter, where the conduit is attached to a source of flushing liquid, such as a squeezable reservoir or faucet.
