Abstract: A disposable absorbent article includes two laterally opposing longitudinally extending backsheet strips attached to an exterior surface of an absorbent assembly in laterally opposing attachment zones. Each backsheet strip may include a water-impermeable layer and may be extensible. The absorbent assembly includes a lower covering sheet that is doubled by folding and thereby includes a first layer and a second layer. The absorbent assembly also includes laterally opposing side flaps which are formed by folding doubled portions of the lower covering sheet laterally inward. A longitudinally extending elastic gathering member is attached to each side flap adjacent to its proximal edge. When the article is worn, the elastic gathering members contract and raise the side flaps to form side barriers.

Abstract: A method for cutting discrete fastening elements (15A-15D) out of a web (15) of fastening element material and attaching the cut-out fastening elements to a web (3) of surface layer material. The method includes the following steps: sequences of four trapezoid fastening elements (15A-15D) are cut out of a web (15) of fastening element material, after which the first and fourth fastening elements on the one hand and the second and third fastening elements on the other hand are attached to a web (3) of surface layer material so that the first (15A) and fourth (15D) fastening elements on the one hand and the second (15B) and third (15C) fastening elements on the other hand are attached to successive absorbent articles in the process line. An absorbent article provided with such fastening elements is also disclosed.

The diaper may comprise an elastic structure adjacent to or abutting the leg openings and the waist opening. In any variation of the diaper the periphery of the leg openings are adjustable. Furthermore, the diaper may include strips that seal the leg openings to a thigh of a person wearing the diaper.

Abstract: Absorbent articles are disclosed having extended waistbands. More particularly, the absorbent articles include a back waistband and/or a front waistband that encircle a portion of the circumference of the waist opening. The absorbent article includes a front portion attached to a back portion by a pair of stretchable side areas. Each of the side areas are made from at least two panels that are connected together along a vertical attachment area. In accordance with the present disclosure, a waistband is incorporated into the article that extends over the entire front portion or the entire back portion and terminates at opposite ends on opposing side areas. Each end of the waistband, however, terminates prior to the vertical attachment areas leaving a gap in between. The presence of the gap has been found to provide various benefits and advantages including improved stretch properties for donning the article.

Further, the top and base layers define a first longitudinally extending side edge and a second longitudinally extending side edge between which, the elastic construction is disposed. The elastic composite further includes an elasticized region, wherein the elastic construction is disposed, a first non-elasticized region disposed between the first side edge and the elasticized region, and a second non-elasticized region disposed between the second side edge and the elasticized region.

The method of using the kit to convert a standard disposable diaper into a standalone smart disposable diaper device includes the steps of acquiring, allowing, inserting, observing, obtaining, removing, taping, and wearing.

Abstract: A novel spray-on adhesive composition is made from a high melt index polymer and a rosin ester tackifier that interact to produce a composition that can form a low VOC, non-tacky, hot melt adhesive material that can be used in disposable article manufacture. The adhesive provides surprisingly high initial adhesion. Additionally, the adhesive is thermally stable at hot melt application conditions, low in cost, easily applied, and produces high quality disposable articles.

Abstract: A method and assembly for attaching a flexible longitudinal medical element to the face of a patient by providing a polymer strip having adhesive material on one side and hook material on the other. Also, a strip of loop material is affixed about the flexible longitudinal element. The loop material is engaged to and secured by the hook material, thereby affixing the flexible longitudinal element to the patient's face, at a desired location.

Abstract: A method for manufacturing fastener ears for absorbent articles and other garments includes the step of cutting a wave-shaped pattern along the longitudinal axis of an elongated strip of material. The wave-shaped cutting pattern is substantially centered along the strip and divides the strip into a first web and a second web. Each web has a series of ear shapes, with each ear shape having a wave crest portion. Each wave crest portion has a first edge with a convex curvature. The method also includes the step of cutting each of the ear shapes out of its respective web to form a plurality of fastener ears. A fastener ear formed by such method is also contemplated.

Two portions on opposite sides of the centerline dividing the length of the diaper in equal halves have a saturated absorption capacity ratio of 45/55 to 55/45. The natural length of the waist elastic member in the state removed from the diaper is 60 to 80% of the length of the waist elastic member as provided in the diaper.

The second configuration is formed upon fastening the engaging surface of the first non-tacky member to the primary surface of the intermediate non-tacky member and separating the engaging member from the receiving member.

Abstract: The present invention discloses a pant-type absorbent article with flat side seams, and a method for manufacturing the same. The absorbent article comprises of a front waist panel, a back waist panel, a crotch region having an absorbent pad and a pair of leg openings disposed between the front panel and the back panel on both sides of the crotch region. The body facing side of one waist panel is bonded to the non-body facing side of the other panel. This kind of bonding ensures that the side seams of the absorbent article stay flat during wear. The bonding is done by using adhesives, hook and loops, or by mechanical/ultrasonic means. In one embodiment of the present invention, the panels are bonded by using a perforated layer of adhesive, thereby enabling easy removal of the article by the wearer.
