  • Patent number: 8491619
Abstract: This invention is a transvascularly placed punch, further including internal steerability and the ability to articulate in a direction at right angles to its longitudinal axis at or near its distal end. The punch is generally fabricated from stainless steel and includes an outer tube, an intermediate tube, a central stylet, hub structures, and a distal articulating region. The punch can be advanced through a body lumen in its straight configuration and then be selectively articulated or curved to permit negotiation of tortuous curvature or to permit optimal approach or access to a puncture site. The punch is able to create holes in the atrial septum of the heart or other structures and is easier to use than punches that are pre-curved near their distal tip since it is easier to advance through accessory catheters.

  • Patent number: 8475392
Abstract: This invention provides a needle for a living body and a process for sampling a tissue with the needle. The needle and the process are used for harvesting a tissue sample from a living body with minimal damage. The needle is made of ceramics, and is provided with a sampling hole for aspirating a sample and with a cooling hole for supplying cooling gas. The holes penetrate through in the longitudinal direction, and have openings on a pricking-end surface of the needle. For the purpose of cutting off the tissue sample, the pricking-end surface is provided with a cutting part positioned between the openings. When the needle is pricked into a body, a tissue is aspirated through the sampling hole while cooling gas is being supplied through the cooling hole. Thus, the tissue is partly frozen or semi-frozen and cut off with the cutting part to harvest by aspiration.

  • Patent number: 8034064
Abstract: The present invention relates to new and useful apparatus, systems and methods for providing an effective tool for intraluminally directed vascular anastomosis of a graft vessel to a receiving blood vessel that is performed according to a minimally invasive procedure. The intraluminally directed vascular anastomosis does not require the interruption of blood flow in the receiving blood vessel and it is versatile enough to suitably combine a variety of cutting, welding, soldering, sealing, and joining techniques. The intraluminally directed anvil apparatus comprises an anvil and a wire used for signaling the optimal anastomosis site; this signaling can be performed when the initial exploration is performed. An anastomosis device is used in conjunction with the intraluminally directed anvil apparatus for opening the anastomosis fenestra and joining the anastomosed structures.

A delivery instrument includes a guide that may include or carry a puncturing instrument that is adapted to be directed toward the heart wall. In some embodiments a distal portion of the delivery instrument may be adapted to be co-located with the coronary sinus. In addition, the guide may be located a known distance from the portion of the delivery instrument that is co-located with the coronary sinus. Access to the left side of the heart may thus be readily gained by positioning the delivery instrument relative to the coronary sinus.
