  • Patent number: 5147384
Abstract: A pacifier tether for use in conjunction with a pacifier to enhance developmental reflexes in an infant. The tether comprises a generally elongate body. The body comprises an upper fabric layer having a central portion and first and second extensions extending from the central portion, and first and second fabric layers underlying the first and second extensions, respectively, and stitched thereto. A reinforcing disk, preferably formed of several fabric layers, overlies the central portion of the upper fabric layer and is stitched thereto. An aperture is formed in the reinforcing disk and the central portion of the upper fabric layer for receiving the nipple of a pacifier. The reinforcing disk maintains the nipple in an upright midline position and insures that the infant's nose remains spaced from the fabric. The pacifier tether further includes a reinforced pocket underlying the aperture. The pacifier base is retained in the pocket.

  • Patent number: 5133740
Abstract: An orthopedic pacifier, which is useful to inhibit or correct a receding lower jaw condition for improved placement of the upper and lower alveolar ridges of an infant's mouth, includes a shield to border the lips, a resiliently deformable bulbous body and a bridge connecting the base end of the body to the shield. The bridge extends between the upper and lower alveolar ridges from the base end to the shield and positions the body with its free end located posteriorly in the mouth. The body has a palatal conforming upper portion, and a lower portion defining an inclined section extending from the base end to the free end to engage the posterior side of the lower alveolar ridge to guide the lower jaw forward to foster its potential to grow into normal position relative to the upper jaw. A depression in the free end guides tongue placement to direct its forces toward the palate to improve control for swallowing.

  • Patent number: 5109864
Abstract: Disclosed is a nipple assembly with an alarm buzzer and a body temperature indicator. The assembly comprises a nipple base in which is accommodated a main case. A protection housing is adhered to the main case by a waterproof glue therein. A heat sensitive resistor is provided in the protective housing. An IC board is electrically connected with the heat sensitive resistor, an LCD, and an alarm buzzer. A heat conductive liquid is filled in the sealed space defined by the base, the main case, and the protection housing. At the rear end of the base is attached a transparent convex housing to which is fastened a handle with a battery. When a baby sucks the nipple of the assembly, the heat in the baby's mouth can be transferred through the liquid to the heat sensitive resistor so that a signal can be sent through the IC board to the LCD for displaying the temperature.

  • Patent number: 5108423
Abstract: A nipple assembly with an alarm buzzer and a body temperature indicator. The assembly comprises a nipple base in which is accommodated a main case and an inner case as well as a ring-shaped thermometer attached thereto. In the main case are provided an inner case, an IC board, a heat sensitive resistor and a buzzer. A heat conductive liquid is filled in the sealed space defined by the base, the main case, and the inner case. At the rear end of the base is attached a transparent convex housing to which is fastened a handle with a battery. When a baby sucks the nipple of the assembly, the heat in the baby's mouth can be transferred through the liquid to the thermometer so that it can indicate the baby's body temperature. Moreover, when the baby's body temperature reaches a predetermined warning value, a signal from a heat sensitive resistor will be sent to the buzzer so that the latter can issue an alarming sound.

  • Patent number: 5078733
Abstract: A pacifier for a premature or small full-term infant includes a mouth shell and a nipple projecting generally perpendicularly therefrom. The mouth shell includes a perioral surface that is concave to conform to the perioral region of the infant and is adapted to exert a substantially uniform pressure around the mouth of the infant. The perioral surface includes a plurality of nubs projecting away from the surface for contact with and stimulation of the perioral region of the infant. The mouth shell includes a flared annular surface surrounding the perioral surface to make the pacifier large enough to avoid ingestion by the newborn, while providing clearance between the mouth shell and the infant's facial features. A V-shaped notch in the annular surface is included to accommodate nasogastric tubes in the infant's nose. The nipple has a generally constant cross-section along its entire length.

  • Patent number: 5059215
Abstract: A device is set forth providing an apparatus for soothing an infant for use particularly during a teething period of time. The apparatus includes an elliptical forwardly extending nipple directed forwardly of a concave support base, with a rattle member directed rearwardly thereof. The rattle member may alternatively utilize an internally threaded boss to enable filling of the nipple with various liquids for consumption by an infant, with a rattle threadedly received within an internally threaded boss. The rattle is replaceable by a whistle to provide an audible member to replace the mechanical rattle. An alternative construction utilizes a multi-compartmented nipple provided with discrete chambers associated with discrete fill plugs mounted rearwardly of the support member to provide a selective mixture of foods and medicines and the like for ingestion by the infant.

  • Patent number: 4990157
Abstract: A plastic retaining strap in combination with a one piece plastic clip is disclosed where the plastic clip is secured to the retaining strap in a manner to allow pivotal and sliding movement of the clip on the strap. This arrangement is particularly useful with a baby soother which is retained in a similar manner at the opposite end of the strap relative to the plastic clip. The plastic retaining strap is formed with sufficient structural integrity to move to a generally elongate configuration when external stresses are removed. The particular securement of the clip and soother accommodate the more resistant strap allowing the combination to satisfy its intended purpose, although the strap is stiffer than the flexible straps of the prior art.
