  • Patent number: 4576010
Abstract: Three tanks containing cryogenic fluid coolant are mounted inside the insulated compartment of a refrigeration container. A control system releases coolant into the compartment responsive to changes in the compartment temperature relative to maximum and minimum temperatures. When the compartment temperature is below the minimum temperature, no cooling of the compartment is desired, and the controller vents all excess boil off vapor outside the compartment. When the compartment temperature is above the maximum temperature, substantial cooling is required, and the controller releases vaporized coolant liquid into the compartment. When the compartment temperature is between the maximum and minimum temperatures, some minimal cooling is needed, and the controller flows the excess boil off vapor into the compartment instead of venting it outside. The coolant is released into the compartment through a venturi to circulate the compartment gases.

  • Patent number: 4460035
Abstract: An air-conditioning method and system for an automotive vehicle for controlling passenger compartment air temperature under comfortable air control conditions, that is, under comfortable outlet duct air volume and temperature according to the perception of individual passengers, once the control conditions are adjusted by the passenger. The air-conditioning system according to the present invention comprises, in addition to a microcomputer, a temperature sensor, a temperature preset device, and the like, a blower-fan motor speed selector manually operated by the passenger, a non-volatile memory unit for storing the manually-adjusted blower-fan motor speeds classified on the basis of difference between detected air temperature and preset air temperature, vehicle travelling conditions, and the time elapsed since the system was turned on.

  • Patent number: 4448034
Abstract: A variable thermostat-type air conditioning system for an automotive vehicle passenger compartment has a dehumidification switch. When a driver depresses the dehumidification switch the compressor begins to operate as if the temperature-adjusting lever were set to the extreme COOL end. Therefore, it is possible to dehumidify or cool the passenger compartment without adjusting the temperature-adjusting lever which is already set to an appropriate lever position. The air-conditioning system according to the present invention comprises a temperature-sensitive element, a variable resistor linked to the temperature-adjusting lever, the dehumidification switch to short the variable resistor, and a thermocontrol amplifier, in addition to a standard compressor, evaporator, etc.

  • Patent number: 4426850
Abstract: An electrical control system for environmental conditioning equipment such as a heat pump is disclosed. An electronic control module in the control system has input and output plugs which may be disconnected from the module and connected to each other so that the module is bypassed while maintaining basic operation of the equipment. This allows the electronic control module to be serviced, tested, and/or repaired while maintaining basic operation of the equipment.

  • Patent number: 4417450
Abstract: An energy management system for a chilled product vending machine for controlling the cycling of the refrigeration system therefor and the ON-OFF status of the machine is described. The energy management system includes a microcomputer for controlling the above-described cycling and ON-OFF functions. A hand-held programmer is provided to input machine ON-OFF times to the microcomputer, the ON times defining sales periods. The microcomputer has data stored therein related to cooling characteristics of different types of machines which may be selectively accessed by manually-actuated selector switches. This enables retrofitting of the energy management system into various types of vending machines. The energy management system also provides increased cooling during high volume sales periods, morning warm-up prior to the beginning of a sales period, periodic continuous cool-downs to maintain acceptable product temperatures, and continuous cool-down following individual vends during a non-sales period.
