Publication number: 20020056284Abstract: A refrigeration system which can reduce the amount of moisture permeating into the system, inexpensively and by a simple structure, is disclosed. Rubber hoses (7, 8) capable of absorbing vibrations are arranged on the discharge and the intake sides of a compressor (1). It was found that the amount of moisture in the system can be effectively reduced by reducing the amount of moisture permeating the rubber hose on the discharge side. A freezing limit line is set for defining to a predetermined level the amount of moisture in the system determined by the amount of the refrigerant sealed in the system, the amount of the lubricating oil sealed in the system, the amount of moisture permeation of the hoses (7, 8) and the number of the years elapsed after operation start. The hose (7) on the discharge side of the compressor has a smaller amount of moisture permeation than the hose (8) on the intake side.Type: ApplicationFiled: November 13, 2001Publication date: May 16, 2002Inventors: Tetsuji Nobuta, Keiichi Kitamura

The compressor has a base muffler which acts not only as a refrigerant suction pipe and gasket but also as an arrangement for preventing heat from being transferred to the input refrigerant. The base muffler is interposed between the valves and cylinder head. Due to the base muffler, neither the motor heat nor the compressing heat is transferred to the input refrigerant passing the suction pipe part of the base muffler. The base muffler prevents an increase in the specific volume of the input refrigerant and causes smooth circulation of the refrigerant in the compressor. The present invention thus improves refrigerant compressing efficiency and refrigerating capacity of the compressor, and reduces the cost, and improves productivity of the compressor.Type: GrantFiled: March 20, 1996Date of Patent: November 26, 1996Assignee: Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd.Inventor: Sung-Tae Lee

Patent number: 5575157Abstract: Liquid refrigerant interacts with the stream of gas flowing through in a centrifugal water chiller, downstream of the occurrence of the compression process in the compressor portion of the chiller but prior to the condensing of the gas in the chiller condenser, to reduce the acoustic energy of the gas. The noise emanating from the chiller which would otherwise result from the interaction of the discharge gas with the piping connecting the compressor portion of the chiller to the system condenser and/or with the components of the system condenser itself is thereby reduced without significantly affecting chiller performance or efficiency.Type: GrantFiled: August 24, 1995Date of Patent: November 19, 1996Assignee: American Standard Inc.Inventor: Robert G. Patent number: 5573182Abstract: A water heater using the heat pump principle includes a hermetic compressor mounted within a well defined within a water tank. The outlet fitting of the compressor is connected to a condensing tube within the tank that heats the water. The compressor includes a radially outwardly projecting flange that is supported on a support surface on the upper header of the water tank through a resilient pad. The pad includes ribs, dimples, or other projections to partially support the flange away from the surface of the pad and/or to support the pad off of the support surface on the header, to thereby vent the volume defined between the compressor and the well.Type: GrantFiled: August 22, 1995Date of Patent: November 12, 1996Assignee: Tecumseh Products CompanyInventors: Edwin L. Patent number: 5531078Abstract: A low volume inlet reciprocating compressor suitable for use in a dual evaporator refrigeration cycle. The compressor includes a cylinder having an inlet port and an outlet port disposed in a housing. A flexible conduit having an inlet passage formed therein extends between the inlet port and an inlet in the housing, and a check valve is connected to the inlet passage so as to prevent refrigerant flow out of the conduit. The inlet passage is located as close as possible to the inlet port. A suction muffler can be located in the housing with one end connected to a second inlet in the housing and another end connected to the check valve. A discharge tube is provided between the outlet port and outlet opening in the housing.Type: GrantFiled: December 27, 1994Date of Patent: July 2, 1996Assignee: General Electric CompanyInventors: James Day, Stephen Searl

Patent number: 5522768Abstract: A noise reduction curb for use as an interface with a rooftop air conditioning unit by forming a base upon which the air conditioning unit rests and is mounted on a roof of a building. A noise reduction supply air duct is oriented in the longitudinal dimension of the air conditioning unit and has a supply air inlet fluidly coupled to the supply air source and a supply air outlet fluidly coupled directly to the supply ducts in the building. The supply air inlet is longitudinally displaced from the supply air outlet and is separated therefrom by a flow turbulence reducing substantially straight duct section. A noise reduction return air duct is oriented in the lateral dimension of the air conditioning unit and has a return air inlet fluidly coupled directly to the return air ducts in the building and a return air outlet fluidly coupled to the air conditioning unit. The return air inlet is laterally displaced from the return air outlet.Type: GrantFiled: September 13, 1994Date of Patent: June 4, 1996Assignee: American Standard Inc.Inventors: Clarence R. Patent number: 5507151Abstract: Noise reduction in a screw compressor based refrigeration system is achieved by the use of multiple compressor discharge and/or suction lines. The lines are configured and/or fabricated from materials which reduce system noise which would otherwise be induced by vibration as well as the system noise associated with gas pulse energy in the discharge gas stream flowing from the compressor.Type: GrantFiled: February 16, 1995Date of Patent: April 16, 1996Assignee: American Standard Inc.Inventors: H.
