  • Patent number: 5707413
Abstract: The method and apparatus for producing a hollow glass article permit removal of a resulting hollow glass article without severing a moll. By this, glass powder which would otherwise be caused and fallen into the hollow glass article during severing the moil may prevented. The invention also permits elimination of a means for positioning a respective blow head and for stopping rotation thereof. A quantity of molten glass of a disk-shaped configuration is supplied onto a support ring. Each blow head is lowered onto a corresponding support ring. The molten glass on the support ring is held by the blow head by its periphery. Then, the support ring is removed or withdrawn. A quantity of air is blown into the molten glass by means of the blow head so as to form a hollow glass article. Subsequently, the holding ability of the blow head is eliminated, so as to remove or unload the resulting hollow glass article. Alternatively, the support rings may be omitted.

  • Patent number: 5372623
Abstract: This invention relates to a method and apparatus for forming a glass container by a press-and-blow system wherein the glass container is provided with a reinforced inner surface. According to the inventive method, fuel gas or a gaseous boron or silicon compound is burnt or otherwise reacted inside a parison after the parison molded in the blank mold is transferred to the finish mold. The burning or other reaction of the fuel gas or gaseous boron or silicon compounds can be carried out just prior to the final blow-molding step in which the parison is blow molded into its final shape, simultaneous with the final blow-molding step, or just after the final blow-molding step. The apparatus of the present invention includes a finish mold provided with a blow head which includes a low selector valve. The low selector valve is open during combustion or other reaction within the parison and is automatically closed during the final blow-molding step by the pressure of the compressed air used in the final blow-molding.

  • Patent number: 4004905
Abstract: An apparatus for forming glass containers wherein the glass is expanded to its final shape in a blow mold. A blowhead is brought onto vertical registry with the blow mold cavity. In the conventional Hartford I.S. forming machine, the mechanism for moving the blowhead onto and out of registry with the blow mold is pneumatically operated. The blowhead and the arm that supports the blowhead or blowheads is of considerable mass, and when an operator is required to change blow molds, or in some instances repair mechanisms which are at the blow mold location, it is necessary to maintain the blowhead in its up position. Air lockout systems have been used in the past but have not been foolproof. Accidents may occur. The present invention utilizes a mechanical lockout arrangement which locks the piston rod in its elevated position to avoid any possibility of the blowhead dropping.

  • Patent number: 3993119
Abstract: An automatic progressively or continuously operative mold assembly for chilling a material which melts in excess of 1700.degree. C and forming quickly a fine crystalline solid material therefrom by depositing said material in a molten state in the relatively thin spaces between a plurality of relatively thick heat sink plates maintained tightly contiguous as they are moved sequentially through and beyond a first mold filling or discharging station, and then moved very rapidly sequentially through a second mold emptying or discharging station in which the relatively thick heat sink plates are maintained spaced apart to discharge therefrom the fine crystalline solid material adhered thereto.
