  • Patent number: 7703304
Abstract: Provided are an apparatus and method for manufacturing a solidified salt that is easy to treat in size and shape by using a vacuum transfer and a dual vessel. In the apparatus for quantitative solidification of a molten salt, a molten salt is introduced into a first vessel, and a second vessel is disposed inside the first vessel and quantitatively supplied with the molten salt. A molten-salt transferring unit quantitatively transfers the molten salt from the first vessel to the second vessel by vacuum pressure. A valve controls a discharge of the molten salt from the second vessel. A mold receives the molten salt from the second vessel and solidifies the molten salt. Accordingly, the molten salt can be stably discharged to the mold by quantitatively transferring the molten salt at vacuum pressure within the dual vessel, and a predetermined size and shape of the solidified salt can be manufactured, thereby processing and collecting the solidified salt safely.

  • Patent number: 4666494
Abstract: Suction molds used in the suction removal process must first be prepared ore they can receive vitrified radioactive waste materials. A method is disclosed for preparing the suction mold which includes a suction pipe welded into the base of the mold with a desired-break location whereat the suction pipe is broken off during the suction removal process. An evacuation stub is mounted in the mouth of the suction pipe and communicates with the interior of the mold. The method of the invention includes evacuating the mold through the evacuation stub and then heating the mold to remove moisture and organic impurities. The mold is then filled with a dry inert gas and the evacuation stub is cleaned. The mold is then evacuated to a predetermined residual pressure. Thereafter, the evacuation stub is cold-press welded so as to close off the interior of the mold from the ambient.

  • Patent number: 4171966
Abstract: A method and apparatus is disclosed for the production of plate glass. A glass melting furnace containing molten glass connects with an outflow furnace in such fashion that central layers of molten glass in the glass melting furnace are conveyed to the outflow furnace. The outflow furnace connects with an outflow nozzle which forms a flat glass band from which the plate glass is cut. The outflow speed of the glass band issuing from the outflow nozzle is regulated by a static pressure adjustment determined by a height of the molten glass in the separate outflow furnace. A supply channel to the nozzle preferably contains heating electrodes for resistance heating of the molten glass prior to issuance from the nozzle.

  • Patent number: 4066428
Abstract: Molding of hollow glass articles wherein a gob flows from a feeder into a mold and forms a hollow tube as it enters the mold, and a pressure differential is applied across the tube so that the tube is shaped in the mold to form the hollow article. During application of the pressure differential, deformation of the glass between the feeder and mold, is prevented by proximately positioning of the feeder and mold. This pressure differential is obtained by applying vacuum between the mold and molten tube.
