Movable Furnace Or Bushing (e.g., Rotatable, Reciprocating, Etc.) Patents (Class 65/534)
  • Patent number: 7213416
Abstract: A glass base material manufacturing apparatus for manufacturing a glass base material comprising: a plurality burners, arranged in a row at a predetermined intervals along the longitudinal direction of a starting base material of the glass base material, for forming a deposit, which is a base material of the glass base material by depositing glass soot on the starting base material while moving reciprocatory over a section of the entire length of the starting base material along the longitudinal direction of the starting base material; a plurality of flow rate regulators, at least one of which is connected to the plurality of burners, respectively, for regulating a flow rate of raw material gas of the glass soot, which is supplied to the plurality of burners; and a control unit connected to each of the plurality of flow rate regulators for controlling individually the plurality of flow rate regulators.

  • Patent number: 6945079
Abstract: Disclosed is a system for drawing an optical fiber for controlling polarization mode dispersion. A furnace is provided for uniformly heating an optical fiber preform in the drawing system mounted to an optical fiber draw tower. The furnace comprises: (a) a main body; (b) a sub-body placed coaxially with the main body and having a diameter smaller than that of the main body; and (c) an upper gas feeding section over the main body, wherein the upper gas feeding section includes a first hollow rotary body having at least one slit in the inner surface thereof along the longitudinal direction of an optical fiber and at least one opening extended in the direction of the center, whereby a gas artificially/periodically creates non-contact polarization to the optical fiber by the first hollow rotary body. Effective non-contact control can be carried out about polarization mode dispersion of the optical fiber.

  • Publication number: 20030140658
Abstract: Apparatus for applying traction to an elongate cylindrical element (5) produced by fusion of an end portion (2a) of a preform (2) of glass material, in which a traction device (3) is capable of being connected to a portion (5i) of the elongate cylindrical element (5) to provide traction of the elongate cylindrical element along an axis (6). A device (4) for the rotation of the elongate cylindrical element applies a twist to the elongate cylindrical element (5) about the axis (6) simultaneously with the traction.

  • Patent number: 5931984
Abstract: A device for drawing down an optical fiber preform (2) connected at one end to a feed rod (3) having an equal or smaller diameter. A chamber (11) in which the preform is drawn has an upper part (11A) with an opening (12). The opening engages the preform to seal the chamber. An enclosure (5) has a seal (6) at its upper part (5A) for sealing around the feed rod. A lower part (5B) of the enclosure contacts the upper part of the chamber to seal the chamber while the feed rod is passing through the opening.

  • Patent number: 5658365
Abstract: An apparatus is provided for applying a tensile force along the longitudinal axis of a cane assembly during the deposition of soot thereon to produce an optical fiber preform. Fiber drawn from such a preform exhibits improved core/clad concentricity. The tensile force may be applied at one or both ends of the cane assembly, with application at both ends being preferred. The tensile force may be varied during the deposition of soot. The cane assembly may be annealed prior to beginning the deposition of soot thereon.
