  • Patent number: 9010721
Abstract: A switchbox for monitoring the position of a manual quarter-turn valve has a housing mountable to the valve to be monitored/controlled. A handle-driven shaft extends through the housing, with one end of the shaft couplable to the valve stem such that movement of the shaft moves the valve stem. One or more shaft position sensor switches interact with a cam on the shaft to signal shaft position and/or provide control signals. A plate coupled to the shaft articulates within a recess on the surface of the switchbox to limit motion of the valve to an operable range, such as between full ON and full OFF. The switchbox has a pair of lock tabs with lock apertures. A lock aperture in the plate is alignable with the lock tab apertures to receive a pin or padlock for locking the valve in a selected position. A potentiometer can be utilized in place of a switch as a shaft position sensor. The switchbox may be used with an original or new handle and may feature detents to allow a range of valve settings.

  • Patent number: 8893534
Abstract: A yard hydrant locking collar has two C-shaped steel hardened plates connected together at one end by a rivet. The rivet acts like a hinge and allows the top and bottom plates to swivel open and closed. The other end of each top and bottom plates has a locking hole. A one inch tapered slot is cut into the top plate near the locking hole. The top and bottom plates are rotated so the collar fits around the hydrant pipe. The locking holes and slot are positioned near the hydrant locking hole and the collar locking holes are aligned. A padlock is opened and tilted away from the pipe and the free arm of the padlock is placed through the locking hole of the hydrant handle and positioned over the locking holes of the collar. The padlock is then tilted back towards the pipe. The tapered slot allows the padlock to move towards the pipe so that the free end of the padlock can move through the locking holes. Once the free end of the padlock passes through the collar locking holes, the padlock can be raised and locked.

Abstract: A lock device includes a first bracket 34 fixed to a screw element 33 and formed with a lock hole 34b; a second bracket 35 which has a fitting portion 35a fitted to the turn-type control lever 30 of an operation pattern selecting valve 16 and which is formed with a lock hole 35f; and a lock 36. The screw element 33 is screwed into a threaded hole 32 formed in an end plate 29 of the operation pattern selecting valve 16 to secure the first bracket 34 to the end plate 29. The fitting portion 35a of the second bracket 35 is fitted to the turn-type control lever 30 to connect the second bracket 35 to the turn-type control lever 30. The lock 36 is insertably attached to the respective lock holes 34b and 35f of the first bracket 34 and second bracket 35 for locking the turn-type control lever 30. With such a structure, the lock device can be manufactured relatively easily without the necessity of processing the operation pattern selecting valve.

  • Patent number: 7219685
Abstract: A locking device for gate valves utilizes an available lock and avoids the necessity of having to chain or weld the lock to the bonnet or other stationary portion of a standard gate valve. The locking device includes a bracket, which mounts securely to one of the truss members of the gate valve. The bracket also includes an upwardly projecting mast, which is inserted between the adjacent spokes of the hand wheel. A cap is seated onto the hand wheel and the mast of the bracket installed on the gate valve. The cap includes a mast port though which the upper end of the mast projects when the cap is seated on the hand wheel. In certain embodiments, the cap covers all of the spokes on the hand wheel and has a number of downwardly projecting spaced spoke detents that are inserted into the openings between the adjacent spokes of the hand wheel. The secure and easy installation of the cap onto the mast of the bracket and the hand wheel prevents rotation of the hand wheel and adjustment of the valve.

Abstract: A valve opening/closing handle lock mechanism provided in a valve having a manually operated valve opening/closing handle (1) is capable of maintaining the security of the valve by preventing the valve from being opened or closed by accident or with malicious intent after completion of a proper opening/closing operation of the valve by means of the handle (1). The handle lock mechanism comprises a locking cap (4) mounted on the handle (1). The locking cap (4) functions to prevent the handle (1) from being operated, extends from the handle (1) to a handle mount portion (3) of the valve so as to cover the corresponding portion of the valve with the locking cap (4), and is provided with: an opening (5) through which an end portion of the handle (1) passes outward; or, a longitudinal groove through which the end portion of the opening/closing handle (1) slidably passes outward.

Abstract: A telescoping lockout device for encasing a gate valve, electrical connection, or similar apparatus, for the purpose of preventing unauthorized access and tampering with the apparatus. The lockout device is comprised of two nested half cylinders attached to one another through T slot that provides for telescoping of the device between an open position, where one half cylinder is nested within the other, and a closed position, where the half cylinders form a cylinder. The T slot provides a rail on one half cylinder that inserts into a track on the other half cylinder. At the ends of the T slot track and rail is an interlock. The lockout device also has locking tabs that, when the lockout device is placed in the closed position, provide overlapping locking openings into which a lock, such as a padlock, can be inserted.

  • Patent number: 7152621
Abstract: A control valve assembly and for a gas delivery system is disclosed comprising a valve housing and piping combination adapted to mate with a gas meter outlet, the valve including a main inlet and an auxiliary inlet for bypassing the main inlet, and a poppet disposed within the housing for selectively opening the respective inlets and for closing both inlets. The poppet is controlled by a valve stem extending into the valve housing and coupled to the poppet, such that rotation of the valve stem orients the poppet in the predetermined positions to selectively open the respective inlets. The valve stem is rotated using a lever arm extending radially from the valve stem, where the lever arm is adapted to carry a locking member at a distal end. When the locking member is carried by the lever arm, rotation of the lever arm may be denied due to interference of the locking member with the valve housing, and the poppet in such case prevents flow through either of the inlets.

  • Patent number: 6994106
Abstract: A locking device to inhibit unauthorized operation of a fire hydrant includes a locking plug having a bottom opening that fits over an actuating nut of the hydrant. The locking plug has a cylindrically-shaped body formed with an upper actuator nut. A peripheral groove in a sidewall of the plug body is located above a set of inward extending, threaded bores for set screws to affix the locking plug to the hydrant actuating nut. Fitting over the plug is a cap having a passageway that intersects tangentially with the plug groove. A locking pin on a hasp bracket then is inserted into the cap passageway to form an interference fit with the plug groove. Rotating the bracket upward positions a staple post on the cap in a slot in the hasp bracket. A padlock then secures the position of the hasp bracket to inhibit access to the plug actuator nut and operatively connected hydrant actuating nut.
