  • Patent number: 8347672
Abstract: In order to enable a turning of a key of a lock cylinder onto a driven member (shaft 36) in the lock cylinder only when a proper key is inserted, yet to prohibit the turning in case of an overload, an overload lock is arranged therebetween. The driven member (shaft 36) should specifically actuate functions in the vehicle only if the correct key is used. A threshold rotation torque determines the change between the normal and the overload state. In order to improve the lock cylinder, it is furnished that a disengaging lever (40) is mounted in the cylinder housing (30) in a pivotable manner (42) and can be displaced between two pivot positions in a radial plane defined by the longitudinal axis (13) of the lock cylinder. A locking cam (41) belonging to the overload lock is arranged on the free end of the disengaging lever (40).

  • Patent number: 5479799
Abstract: The present invention provides for a key and bolt lock device. The key is constructed in a housing shell to be received by the head of the bolt. The key includes a power source, typically a battery, and a transmit coil which is capable of transmitting both energy and data from the key to a receiving coil in the bolt. This energy and data transfer is usually conducted by magnetic coupling. The key also includes a memory device for storing security codes which are used to compare to security codes stored in the bolt as well as a device for retrieving and transmitting the security code, typically an 8-bit microcontroller. The bolt has a body which is operatively associated with a head of the bolt so that the head rotates on the body when the bolt is in a locked position. The bolt also includes a latching device which is capable of attaching the head of the bolt to the body of the bolt so that the head and body may be rotated together.

  • Patent number: 5040652
Abstract: A permutation lock chamber has a chamber shaft extending therethrough which is held against rotation when the chamber is in a locked condition and which is rotatable when the chamber is in an unlocked condition. The chamber shaft is connected to the shaft of an outer door handle through a clutch. When the chamber is in its unlock condition and the outer door handle is rotated, the clutch engages and the chamber shaft rotates with the outer door handle shaft. When the chamber is in its locked condition and the outer door handle is rotated, the clutch slips to permit rotation of the outer door handle shaft without rotation of the chamber shaft.

  • Patent number: 4811580
Abstract: A mechanism which releases the steering wheel of an automobile from engagement with the steering shaft of the automobile and which locks the steering wheel in this position. The mechanism is composed of a substantially cylindrical block with prongs on its lower side, an actuating disk which is engageable with the prongs, a steering column with a lock housing on it. The lock housing receives a bolt which is actuated by a user key to lock in one of two tracks on the cylindrical steering block. When the bolt is placed in the lower track, the prongs are disengaged from the actuating disk. When the bolt is placed in the upper track, the prongs are engaged in the actuating disk and allow for normal steering.
