  • Patent number: 11447974
Abstract: An anti-barricading turn hub assembly is configured for use with a lockset including a bolt movable to lock and unlock a door. The anti-barricading turn hub assembly includes a spindle connected to a thumb turn on one side of the lock. The spindle is releasably engaged to a turn hub that is operable by the key from the other side of the door. Under normal operation, the spindle and turn hub rotate together to lock and unlock the bolt. In a barricading situation in which the thumb turn is held to prevent the turn hub assembly from rotating, the turn hub disengages from the spindle upon application of sufficient force through rotation of the key, and the disengaged turn hub can be rotated to unlock the bolt even if the thumb turn is held to keep the spindle from rotating.

  • Patent number: 6014878
Abstract: An outside handle assembly of a lock includes an outside lever handle, an outside handle spindle secured to the outside lever handle to rotate therewith and including a first slot defined in a periphery thereof, and an actuating spindle mounted in the outside handle spindle and operably connected to a retractor. The actuating spindle includes a second slot aligned with the first slot of the outside handle spindle. A catch is mounted in the actuating spindle and has a first end pivoted to the actuating spindle and a second end. A tapping plate is slidably mounted in the actuating spindle and connected to the tail piece to move therewith. When the lock is in an unlocked status, the outside handle spindle and the actuating spindle rotate synchronously, as the second end of the catch extends through the second slot of the actuating spindle into the first slot of the outside handle spindle.

  • Patent number: 5787743
Abstract: The apparatus is a torque limiting spindle for lock mechanisms. The interconnection between two parts of the spindle of the lock is a detent mechanism which disengages the two sections if excessive torque is applied. The apparatus has a first section of the spindle with grooves on a cylindrical surface and dowel pins held into the grooves by one or more springs. The second section of the spindle has fingers which engage the dowel pins to impart rotational motion to the first spindle section. If the torque applied between the two sections exceeds the limit determined by the springs, the dowel pins move out of the grooves to prevent damage to the mechanism.

  • Patent number: 5768926
Abstract: A lock sub-assembly for a lock which is mainly situated at an exterior side of the lock. The lock sub-assembly comprises an exterior hub configured to rotate together with an exterior long handle and be fixed to an exterior side of a lock chassis, a handle spindle rotatably received within the exterior hub, a restricting block fixedly secured within the exterior hub, the restricting block disposed to. effectuate a limited turning movement of the handle spindle with respect to the exterior hub, an actuating spindle extending through both the restricting block and the handle spindle and having a roll-back portion adapted to operate a retractor, and a mechanism for releasably coupling the actuating spindle to the handle spindle. With this construction, when the actuating spindle and the handle spindle are not rotatably coupled together, the exterior long handle together with the handle spindle performs such a turning movement that no other constituting elements are affected thereby.

Abstract: In a door lock having a latch bolt selectively retractable by a rotatable driver spindle, the driver spindle being rotatable by operation of an outside manual lever associated with an outside chassis assembly or by operation of an inside manual lever associated with an inside chassis assembly, a lost motion mechanism is provided between the driver spindle and the inside chassis assembly so that rotational movement of the driver spindle is not transmitted to the inside lever. An interconnect mechanism connects the inside lever to a deadbolt operating assembly whereby operation of the inside lever retracts both the latch bolt and the deadbolt. The lost motion mechanism includes a driven spindle located within an axially extending bore in a spindle core and having an opening for receiving an end of the driver spindle, the spindle core being mechanically linked to the inside lever.

Abstract: This assembly includes a steering shaft (101) which can move in rotation in a column body (102) and includes an anti-theft bolt (104) mechanism (103) which can move between a retracted position and an active anti-theft position. The shaft includes two shaft portions (105, 106), one (105) carrying a steering wheel and the other (106) being connected to the rest of a vehicle steering mechanism. The portions are connected by a disengagable linkage mechanism (108) which can move, under the control of the anti-theft mechanism, between an active position for coupling the two shaft portions and a retracted anti-theft position freeing the two shaft portions from each other so that the shaft portion (105) carrying the steering wheel can rotate freely with respect to the other shaft portion (106). The corresponding end zones (105a, 106a) of the shaft portions are arranged one around the other, and the disengagable linkage mechanism (108) is mounted so as to move around the shaft portion carrying the steering wheel.

  • Patent number: 5010755
Abstract: A torque-releasable door handle assembly is provided for operating a door-latching system. The door handle assembly includes a handle shell formed to include a hollow interior cavity having front and rear openings in the handle shell, a lock cylinder mounted in the hollow interior cavity to position its keyway opening in the front opening of the handle shell, and a torque-release mechanism interconnecting the handle shell and the lock cylinder. The lock cylinder is formed to include an axially extending, radially outwardly opening groove located in the hollow interior cavity. The torque-releasable mechanism normally extends into the groove to establish a driving connection between the handle shell and the lock cylinder. The torque-release mechanism is configured to disengage the groove temporarily to break the driving connection in response to the application of at least a predetermined amount of torque to a lever handle appended to the handle shell.

  • Patent number: 4676083
Abstract: The lock housing has a slot in a top wall via which a coded card key can be inserted to bring into alignment coded magnetic areas on the card with magnetically responsive elements of the lock to unlock the locking mechanism and enable rotation of either a knob or lever arm to open the door. The card moves a spring actuator against a coupling spline to engage it with a spindle spline carried by a shaft interconnected with the knob or lever arm handle. The sliding coupling spline is integral with parts which interrelate with the door lock mechanism such that rotation of the knob or lever arm will now effect release of the door locking mechanism. When the card is fully inserted, the mechanism is maintained in the unlocked condition and the card may be released to turn the knob or handle with the same hand. Spring-loaded members separate the coupling and spindle splines as the magnetic card key is withdrawn from the housing slot.

Abstract: A door lock structure adapted to be actuated by a magnetic card key to operate a conventional cylindrical door lock with substantially no modification to such lock. A housing containing the magnetically operated elements of the lock is mounted, along with a modified knob, on the conventional spindle of the lockset in lieu of the usual door knob. The housing is freely rotatable relative to the lockset spindle to prevent wrenching. The latchbolt retractor of the lockset is actuated in the normal manner to unlock the lockset by rotating a conventional driver bar. The driver bar in this structure is rotated by registering interengaging elements carried by the driver bar and a slide which is actuated by a properly coded magnetic card key. The modified knob may be freely rotatable on the spindle or may be fixed thereto.
