Abstract: A release mechanism is actuated by the heat of a fire to electrically and mechanically disconnect electrical wiring from an electronic lock having a plastic housing. The electronic lock is mounted on a fire door and as it is heated by a fire on the opposite side of the fire door, mounts that hold the lock melt, releasing the electronic lock to drop away from the fire door and prevent ignition of the plastic housing. The release mechanism may use shape memory alloy wire to contract and disconnect a ribbon cable. Solder connectors may also be used to disconnect wires. Intumescent material that expands when heated is used to drive the lock mechanism away from the fire door and insulation is used to control the timing of melting.

Abstract: An outer operational device includes a cover mounted to an outer side of a door. The outer operational device includes a handle and an actuating member operatively connected between the handle and a latch. A sliding block is movable between an alignment position and an alignment position under control of a driving device through electrification. When the sliding block is in the engagement position, a locking block locks the actuating member to prevent rotation of the handle, and the outer operational device is in a locked state avoiding retraction of the latch. When the sliding block is in the disengagement position, the sliding block allows rotation of the actuating member and the handle, and the outer operational device is in an unlocked state allowing retraction of the latch.

  • Publication number: 20100024496
Abstract: Electric lock with hammer for doors, locker doors, safe doors, telephone chassis, vending machines and the like which also have an anti jamming mechanism. To close the electric lock, the bar moves forward and the door latch closes upon a corresponding bolt. When moving forward, the bar stretches the spring into a tense state. The latch drops into a corresponding groove and mechanically locks the bar. To unlock the electric lock the solenoid activates the hammer while applying most of the energy over a relatively short period of time. The hammer in turn hits the latch out of its groove to unlock the electric lock. The spring pulls the bar backwards and the door latch opens up. According to the present invention, when mechanical pressure is applied upon any of lock mechanical components, the hammer strikes at the latch repeatedly until it comes out of its groove and the unlocks.

  • Patent number: 5987946
Abstract: Method and apparatus for non-destructively picking locks which normally are operated by keys, such locks capable of having twisting tumbler pins and sidebars. The method requires that: the pins be raised high in the keyway; the plug be axially bored by a thin drill which enters through a low portion of the keyway, the rear end of the drilled bore opening to the bolt cam operator; the drill bit be removed from the bore; and then the bolt cam operator be directly turned to shift open the bolt. This method does not decode the tumblers nor release any sidebar. The preferred apparatus comprises a pin raiser tool, which is self-retaining due to bias on the pins, which is transmitted to the handle of this tool; and a torquing tool, which is passed through the bore and has a blade which seats in the cam operator for turning the operator to shift open the lock bolt. A unique safety shield can be installed on the tailpiece to prevent picking by the method of this invention.

  • Patent number: 5906493
Abstract: A training device, for mounting to a standard door having a cutout at middle height, the door mounted in a door frame having a strike plate at middle height. A sliding box is mounted in the cutout for slidable motion toward and away from the strike plate. At least one spring is mounted between the sliding box and the cutout for biasing the sliding box toward the strike plate. The spring is selected to resist compression and thus motion of the sliding box away from the strike plate. The amount of resistance that the spring provides is equivalent to the amount of resistance presented by a doorknob and locking assembly on standard doors. Thus, a crowbar-like tool may be used to pry the sliding box away from the strike plate to open the door and simulate the force and action necessary to pry open any standard door.
