    Abstract: An outside handle assembly includes comprises a spindle, a knob connected to the spindle to rotate therewith, and a core retainer. The spindle includes an upper slot and a lower slot, thereby defining two lateral walls. Each lateral wall includes an upper cut defined in an upper side thereof and a lower cut defined in an underside thereof. The knob includes an end wall having an opening defined therein and a projection formed in a periphery that defines the opening. The core retainer is mounted in the spindle and includes a cylindrical main body including a first end with a flange formed on an outer periphery thereof and a second end. The flange includes an outer end face that bears against the end wall of the knob. Two retainer lips are formed on the outer end face of the flange and include a cut therebetween for fittingly receiving the projection of the knob to thereby prevent rotational movement of the knob relative to the core retainer.

    Abstract: A spring-biased detent to provide selective securement of a door knob assembly to a spindle of a lock mechanism. The detent is inserted transversely in the spindle and biased by a spring clip. The detent may be depressed within the spindle allowing the door knob assembly to slide onto the spindle and subsequently is biased into an aperture of the knob to lockingly attach the knob assembly to the spindle. The detent includes a central aperture for receiving a tailpiece of the lock mechanism. The aperture is configured to allow depression of the detent only when the tailpiece is oriented in an unlocked position preventing removal of the door knob assembly when the latch is locked.

    Abstract: A locking handle includes a base and a handle rotatably mounted to the base. A well is formed in the handle, and this well communicates with a key opening in a front portion of the handle and a loading opening in a rear portion of the handle. A shaft is mounted in the well via the loading opening to rotate with the handle, and this shaft forms a recess adjacent the key opening. A lock cylinder including a key receiving slot and a locking element is positioned in the recess to rotate in unison with the handle, with the key slot aligned with the key opening. The lock is dimensioned to pass through the loading opening, and the locking element passes outside of the shaft to releasably engage the base and thereby selectably lock the handle against rotation with respect to the base.

    Abstract: A rotational housing assembly for a lock assembly includes a rotational housing, a spindle, and a core retainer. The rotational housing has a sleeve which is adapted to receive a core and defines an inner periphery. A driver is formed in and extends along a longitudinal direction of the inner periphery. The spindle is received in the sleeve to rotate with the rotational housing. The spindle includes a first end adapted to operate a door latch and a second end. A cutout is formed in the second end of the spindle and extends along a longitudinal direction of the spindle and defines a recess in one edge thereof. A driver slot engages with the driver in the sleeve to retain the spindle in the rotational housing. The core retainer is received in the sleeve to engage with the second end of the spindle and has first and second ends. A stop is formed at the second end of .the core retainer and engages with the recess in the spindle.

    Abstract: An interchangeable core and housing assembly comprising a cylinder housing (42) which has a central opening with an alignment bracket (44) in one part of its cross-section and an interchangeable core (60) in the remaining part. The interchangeable core comprises a cylinder body (61) with a central bore and a radial projection (62) which fits into a radial slot of the aligning bracket. The radial projection has a plurality of radial recesses containing a plurality of spring-loaded top driver pins (66). A cylinder plug (46) is a inserted into the central bore of the cylinder body. Cylinder plug has dimples (78 and 80) on its exterior, a keyway (82), and a plurality of radial recesses with bottom pins (67). Interchangeability of the core is achieved by providing an annular groove (55a and 55b) formed in the central opening of the cylinder housing and locking balls (84 and 85) installed into holes (70, 71, 72, and 73) of the cylinder body.

    Abstract: The front half of the knob shell and the cylinder are removable from the rest of the lockset without special skill or tools so that cylinder may be replaced or rekeyed. A radial retainer pin in the cylinder assembly extends outward into the lockset shank to hold the cylinder in place. When key is turned counterclockwise, the retainer pin may be depressed inward into a radial recess in the cylinder plug so that cylinder and knob front can be removed from the lockset. A recess in the plug has a spring-biased cover and forces the retainer pin back outward when the pin is released.

The "T-top" lock-handle device of this invention comprises a latch stud adapter mechanism and locking cam mechanism each located substantially within a handle-housing and operative to permit locking and unlocking over a three position arc for the lock and a two position arc for the handle-housing and wherein unlocking is effected by meshing of notched surfaces on said adapter and locking cam whereby the locking cam drives the adapter upon rotation of the handle to unlock the "T-top" permitting its removal from the automobile roof.

    Abstract: A cylinder assembly complete with cylinder plug is located within the outside door handle of a lockset. A washer having a diameter greater than the diameter of the plug is mounted on the rearmost portion of the plug so as to form a shoulder portion. A slot is cut in the shoulder portion flush with the outside diameter of the plug. A spindle extending into the outside handle portion contains a boss on the inside portion extending radially towards the center of the handle a discrete portion substantially equal to the shoulder formed by the washer attached to the plug. The boss is located on the spindle side closest to the latch. The complete cylinder assembly is inserted into the outside handle with the door handle turned in a first direction and the plug rotated by the key in the opposite direction thereby turning the tailpiece until the slot on the shoulder is aligned with the boss on the spindle.
