The latch arrangement prevents movement of the bolt members from the engaged position to the disengaged position. A first operating member for operating the lock mechanism is provided on one side thereof and a second operating member and a latch release arrangement are provided on the other side of the lock mechanism. The latch arrangement responds to movement of the first operating member or the latch release arrangement to release the bolt members and allow movement thereof from the engaged position to the disengaged position. The bolt members are further moveable between the engaged and disengaged positions in response to movement of the first or second operating members.

    Abstract: A security bolt including a housing and a bolt rod slidably mounted on that housing for relative movement between operative and inoperative positions. The rod is cylindrical and has a section of reduced diameter between its ends so as to form two opposed shoulders. Key operated locking mechanism, having a rotatable barrel, is attached to the housing and a detent member is rotatably mounted on an end portion of that barrel. The detent member is rotatable to a position at which it engages one of the rod shoulders and thereby prevents movement of the rod out of the operative position. Rotation of the detent member is caused by rotation of the barrel, but a lost motion connection enables the barrel to rotate to a limited extent in either direction without causing corresponding rotation of the detent member. The locking mechanism can be removed from the housing through a rear side and releasable securing means controls that removal.

The door lock assembly includes a tumbler type cylinder which can be rotated by a key from the outside to lock a door or other closure to which it is fitted to a first position whereupon the handle inside the door cannot be used to unlatch the lock from the inside. Also, the door can be locked and thereafter the cylinder can be rotated by turning the key in the reverse direction whereupon the door remains locked but upon withdrawing the key the door can be opened from the inside with the handle. Thus, after locking, the key can be withdrawn in either of two cylindrical positions depending on whether the user wants the door to be able to be opened from the inside by use of the handle.

    Abstract: A door is locked in the closed position by a system of five bolts which can be simultaneously operated from either side of the door by a handle or key operator. Both the handle and key operator are common to all of the bolts in the system and are connected through a rotary camming device with a linkage including parts drivingly connected with the bolts. A lost motion connection is provided between the key operator and rotary camming device to enable complete rotation and withdrawal of the key. The linkage and bolts are protectively enclosed inside of tough conduits and linkage access housings. A safety bolt immobilizing device is provided on the door adjacent to one bolt of the locking system to block the extension of the bolts while the door is open and this device moves automatically to a bolt release position when the door is closed. The locking system can be placed in a residential door or may be installed on a commercial door.

    Abstract: Cylinder locks for use in the locking of doors on opposite sides of a vehicle, each have a single barrel which carries tumblers that abut internal shoulders of the lock casing to obstruct turning of the barrel in an unlocking sense (different for the two locks) until the tumblers are withdrawn into the barrel by initial turning of an inserted key. The barrel in each case is free to turn in the opposite, locking, sense without any obstruction, turning in both senses being opposed resiliently by a coiled spring that embraces a spindle of the barrel externally of the casing. The tumblers of one lock are spaced by a bush forwardly within their barrel as compared with the tumblers of the other lock so that different sets of the cuts of the common key engage the tumblers of the two locks.

In one form, the handle is pivoted between its ends for swinging movement between its flush and non-flush positions, and in another form is spring biased for pop-up movement from the flush to non-flush position. The outside handle is normally retained in its flush position by a latch or lock engaged with a releasable keeper which can be manually released from the door exterior to enable use of the outside handle. When utilizing the inside handle, a connected first cam operates to release the keeper to enable movement of the pop-up handle embodiment to its non-flush position.

For classroom function, the turnknob has a limited throw and has lost motion relative to the crank arm so as to allow retraction of the bolt by the turnknob but prevent its advancement thereby to locked position.

    Abstract: A lock cylinder with dual driver whereby an independent drive for the dead bolt mechanism and the door latch mechanism may be achieved with a single lock so as to provide withdrawal of both the latch bolt and the dead bolt by rotation of the key inserted into the lock cylinder. The drive for the dead bolt actuating mechanism is a conventional lost motion drive extending from the rear of the cylinder assembly. In addition, a cam is coupled to the cylinder assembly threaded cap so as to provide a direct drive thereto, with a cam being coupled to the latch mechanism so that both the dead bolt and the latch bolt are retracted upon rotation of a key in the lock.

Bolt means are actuable by rotation of the master cylinder. A plurality of pin tumblers are positioned within respective pin bores and normally prevent rotation of both cylinders but are shiftable by key means into alternate positions whereby rotation of the master cylinder by the drive cylinder is permitted to thereby unlock the lock through actuation of the bolt means by the master cylinder.

    Abstract: A door lock having two escutcheon plates clamped against the sides of a door, two mortise cylinders mounted in coaxial relation in the escutcheon plates and each having a rotatable key plug and an actuating arm on the inner end of the plug, a bolt slidable between extended and retracted positions, and a toggle joint bolt-operating mechanism actuated by the actuating arms on the key plugs. This mechanism includes a bolt link pivotally connected to the inner end of the bolt, and an actuating link between the ends of the key plugs having abutment means for coupling and uncoupling of the arms and the actuating link which is urged in toward the locked and unlocked positions by a toggle spring movable into oppositely over-center positions. The abutment means comprise two spaced tabs defining a slot into which the actuating arm is eccentrically extended and retracted during rotation of the key plug through full locking and unlocking revolutions.
