Pattern Cutting Patents (Class 700/134)
  • Patent number: 6810779
Abstract: A method and system of cutting parts from sheet material is disclosed. The system identifies critical segments of the cutting path where cutting difficulties may arise and modifies the data that guide the cutting tool for more accurate cutting through the critical segments. In particular, the system identifies segments of the cutting path proximately close to one another called “common line segments” and generates a optimized cutting path using a single pass to cut common line segments and minimizing total cutting time, including dry haul time. The method and system of the present invention provide an optimal cutting path and control of a cutting tool resulting in higher quality cut pieces and the higher throughput. Therefore, the method disclosed allows for and makes desirable the close nesting of templates without buffers.

  • Patent number: 6807289
Abstract: In a method for compensating for pattern distortion of sheet-type work material spread onto a support surface a processing apparatus is provided and carries said support surface. The work material is spread onto the support surface and images of selected areal portions of the work material are captured. A controller analyzes these images and projects them onto a display whereupon the images are mapped to define any distortion in the work material. The controller then undistorts the images of these areal portions and projects them back onto the display so that an operator can position undistorted digital representations of pattern pieces onto the undistorted images of the work material. The controller then distorts the geometry of the pattern pieces positioned on the work material by the operator to conform to the distortion in the spread material.

Abstract: A method and apparatus for cutting a graphics area from a sheet of material which includes such graphics area. The method involves applying a plurality of registration marks on the sheet at and about the graphics area in predetermined positions at the time the graphics are applied thereto, sensing the locations of the registration marks on the sheet of material at the time of cutting, and cutting the graphics area from the ready-to-cut sheet along a path determined in response to the sensed locations positions of the registration marks with respect to the graphics area at that time, whereby precise cutting occurs despite two-dimensional distortion of the sheet prior to cutting.

  • Patent number: 6672187
Abstract: An improved method and apparatus for cutting graphics areas from a sheet of material bearing a combination of graphics areas and a plurality of registration marks in predetermined positions with respect thereto, the combination being in a predetermined approximate position and orientation with respect to a set of reference features of the sheet. The method involves automatically determining whether the reference features are in an expected coordinate region on a sheet-receiving surface, and, if not, automatically determining the coordinate region of such features. Further steps then include sensing metrics of the reference features to determine the position and orientation of the sheet, inferring therefrom the approximate positions of the registration marks and then sensing the precise positions thereof with a main sensor, and cutting the graphics areas from the sheet in response to such precise positions.
