Abstract: A design module is a software module that is implemented in a computer system that comprises instructions stored in a machine-readable medium and a processor that executes the instructions. The design module receives inputs from a person to create a custom insert for a lighting control panel. The inputs identify the content and locations of labels and a decorative background of the insert. Each label is associated with a corresponding input device. Each input device is associated with an optical configuration or “scene” of an environment associated with the lighting control panel. Each label includes alphanumeric text and/or graphics that identify the scene of the label's corresponding input device. The design module causes the insert to be generated by instructing a printer to print the labels and background on a sheet of material, at the specified locations.

Abstract: A method allows analyzing and describing the reflective properties of a three-dimensionally structured original surface. The topology of the original surface is determined and the topological data are stored in the form of a depth map in a first data record and evaluated with respect to the influence of the data on the reflective properties. Each surface element is assigned a reflective value in accordance with the evaluation and the value is stored in a second data record and made available to other machining or inspection systems. There, the reflection values of the second data record are divided into classes and the depth values of the first data record, assigned to the classified reflection values, are varied in accordance with the classification. Finally, the changed depth values are employed as parameters for electronically controlling a tool in order to machine the artificially produced surface.

Abstract: A method of socket design and fabrication for Below-the-Knee (BK) amputees that utilizes manual measurements. This method, known as BK by Measurement, utilizes a manual measurement procedure where predetermined points are identified and measurements are taken of a patient's residual limb. These measurements are recorded and thereafter entered into a software package enabling customization by the fabrication facility. Prosthetic components fabricated in accordance with the present invention provide a custom fit, while not relying on more expensive digital imaging technology. The invention also provides a method and associated system for recording and retrieving fabrication and/or fitting data associated with a prosthetic component for use with a particular patient, which can include affixing to the prosthetic component a strip debossed with indicia unique to the particular patient or prosthetic component.

Abstract: In a state of separating a front end face of an air injecting nozzle 23 from a worked work W by a predetermined interval h, the air injecting nozzle 23 is moved at a constant speed in an X axis direction, injects air from an injecting hole 27a of a nozzle main body 27 and is moved to pass centers O1, O2 of worked holes Wb, Wc of the work W. A variation in a pressure is measured by a pressure measuring unit 30. X axis coordinates of the centers O1, O2 of the holes Wb, Wc, a hole diameter E and a center interval distance D1 are calculated based on coordinates of center points T1, T2 of inclined portions Ld, Lu of a curve Lx of the pressure relative to the measured X axis coordinate.

  • Patent number: 7113837
Abstract: A device control system is provided, in which a host device uploads optimal program code suitable for its own system environment from a target device for control. In the target device 2, a plurality of pieces of program code 231 through 23n used for different system environments and a header object 221 associated with the respective pieces of program code are stored in advance. The host device 1 obtains the header object 221 from the target device 2, and then parses the obtained header object 221 to determine program code 23x (x is one of 1 through n) optimal for its own system environment. The host device 1 then uploads the determined program code 23x from the target device 2 for interpretation, thereby controlling the target device 2.

Abstract: According to the invention, a unit (10) is proposed for the production of track elements (25), which comprises a plurality of clamping devices (14) arranged one after another in the longitudinal direction of the unit. Provided in the clamping devices (14), there is in each case a pedestal element (16), which is fixed to the floor, and a clamping table (24) which is connected at least indirectly to the pedestal element (16). A portion of a track element (25) may be placed on each clamping table (24). In order to enable the prefabrication of track elements (25) whereof the curvature, longitudinal profile and camber are individually different, the clamping tables (24) are positionally adjustable with respect to the particular pedestal element (16).

  • Patent number: 7050876
Abstract: Methods, apparatus and computer program products provide efficient techniques for designing and printing shells of hearing-aid devices with a high degree of quality assurance and reliability and with a reduced number of manual and time consuming production steps and operations. These techniques also preferably provide hearing-aid shells having internal volumes that can approach a maximum allowable ratio of internal volume relative to external volume. These high internal volumes facilitate the inclusion of hearing-aid electrical components having higher degrees of functionality and/or the use of smaller and less conspicuous hearing-aid shells. A preferred method includes operations to generate a watertight digital model of a hearing-aid shell by thickening a three-dimensional digital model of a shell surface in a manner that eliminates self-intersections and results in a thickened model having an internal volume that is a high percentage of an external volume of the model.

Abstract: A production machine has at least one signal output with the capability of transmitting production status information to a production control system or production monitoring system. Signal outputs of the production machine are picked up and the statuses of the signal outputs are passed on via data connections to an operator console. The product status information obtained in this way is transmitted together with the information input manually by an operator via a data connection to a computer system for evaluation. A method generates events regarding production information while the production machine is operating.

  • Patent number: 6980881
Abstract: Large machines, especially those having working envelopes in excess of fifteen feet, exhibit unacceptable errors because of thermal expansion and mechanical misalignments between the axes. The errors have traditionally been minimized by enclosing the machine in a thermal enclosure, by careful calibration, or by mounting a laser interferometer on each axis. These solutions are costly, may require frequent recalibration, and do not correct for small rotations of one axis relative to another axis due to wear etc. The present invention uses an interferometric laser tracker or a comparable 3D position sensor to measure the position of a retroreflector attached to the end effector, e.g. a machine head when the machine comes to rest. A computer compares the measured position to the desired position according to the machine media, and adds the appropriate correction with trickle feed media statements to move the machine to the correct position prior to further machining.

  • Patent number: 6978188
Abstract: Systems and methods are provided for designing and producing custom-made templates for implantation or for pre-contouring metallic or polymer implantable plates prior to surgery. According to one embodiment, medical image data representing surrounding portions of a patient's anatomy to be repaired by surgical implantation of a bone reconstruction plate is received. Next, three-dimensional surface reconstruction is preformed based on the medical image data. Virtual removal of a bone or portion thereof to be reconstructed is performed with reference to the medical image data by simulating the contemplated surgical implantation procedure. Then, a representation of a template is created that is countered to fit the patient's anatomy to be repaired. Finally, a replica of the template is produced by using Solid Freeform Fabrication manufacturing techniques.

  • Patent number: 6947809
Abstract: A method of developing a stamping die for a workpiece is provided, which includes the steps of stamping a workpiece in a current die. A measurement is made of the stamped workpiece to determine its profile. The profile is compared with the design intent workpiece to determine dimensional variance. If the variance is within predetermined limits, the development is complete. If the variance is beyond limits, a conceptual determination is made of the residual forces in the current die stamped workpiece when the current die stamped workpiece is restamped by a design intent die. This conceptual determination is carried out on a computer. From the determination of residual forces, a new current die is developed. The new current die then stamps the workpiece. The steps are repeated until the stamped workpiece profile is within predetermined limits.
