    Abstract: A process and apparatus for preparation of custom blended fuels is disclosed. A bar code on a fuel tank or vehicle, such as an automobile, is scanned by a bar code reader operatively associated with a fuel dispensing means to convey information about a fuel required or desired to a computer controlled customized blender associated with the fuel dispensing means. Multiple fuel components, such as gasoline and replenishable fuel components such as methanol and ethanol may be custom mixed at the point of purchase. Preferably an octane analyzer and other fuel property analyzers, such as RVP analyzers, are associated with individual component or blended gasoline streams.

    Abstract: A single meter blending fuel dispensing system utilizing a pair of proportional flow control valves each having a pressure transducer positioned aft of the valve flow control mechanism. A computer controller is used to program a desired fuel mixture by varying the pressure for each flow control valve. A pressure decrease in one valve produces a corresponding pressure increase in the other valve. A third pressure transducer can be situated downstream of the valves and is set such that the pressure it receives cannot exceed that of the two valve pressures. Flow meters can be substituted for the pressure sensors. A calibration method for calibrating the positive displacement meter is also disclosed. At installation the positive displacement meter is at its most accurate and is synchronized with the less accurate pressure sensors or flow meters.

    Abstract: An octane sensitive blending dispenser for fluids, particularly for fuel dispensers. The dispenser controls component pumps according to octane data measured by octane meters. In one form of the invention octane measurements are taken within the input lines connected to the dispenser from fluid storage tanks. Control of the component pumps is accomplished by determining the difference between the desired blend octane and the observed blend octane and adjusting the pumps so as to more closely blend the desired fluid.

    Abstract: The present invention relates to a fuel dispensing apparatus and method for blending at least one blended fuel using a single meter both the blended fuel and the blend components. The invention includes an apparatus for dispensing a blended fuel that includes first and second valves in fluid communication with a low octane blend component and a high octane blend component respectively. A meter is in fluid communication with the first and second valves for generating a signal indicative of the volume of the blended fuel dispensed from the apparatus. The invention further includes a real time octane sensor in fluid communication with the blended fuel for generating an output signal indicative of the octane level of the blended fuel. A blend controller receives the octane sensor output signal and generates output control signals to the first and second control valves to maintain the blended product octane level at a predetermined level or within a predetermined range.
