Abstract: A system and method for delivering silver ion biocide is described herein. The systems described relate to passing water from a water system through a silver ion release module and optional high-concentration silver ion release module. The system includes an analyzer, detector, and/or controller for monitoring the concentration of silver ion and adjusting the flow path, flow rate, temperature and/or pH of the water in order to obtain the desired concentration of silver ion. The system optionally includes other metal ions released into a water system, the concentration of which may be used to automatically calibrate the described system and/or cause the system to take actions based on the measured concentration of silver ion or of the second metal ion.

Abstract: In a work machine, a control unit controls a pilot control valve for controlling the opening area of a first direction switch valve in executing the combined operation to be less than or equal to that in executing a single operation. The combined operation represents an operation of simultaneously operating first and second actuators. The single operation represents an operation of operating only the first actuator. Further, the control unit determines the opening area of the first direction switch valve in the combined operation based on a hydraulic pressure detected by a hydraulic pressure detector unit.

  • Patent number: 8644992
Abstract: The present subject matter relates to methods and apparatus for controlling operation of a washing machine motor. Different control algorithms may be used during different time periods of operation of the motor where each algorithm is configured to provide different operating characteristics of the motor based on the needs of the washing machine system. The method and apparatus both provide for changing from one motor control algorithm to another algorithm while the motor is spinning. For certain type motors, a time period may be established between operation of the motor under a first or second control algorithms where no energy is supplied to the motor but the motor is permitted to continue to spin. During this period of time for these type motors, magnetic fields in the motor are permitted to subside prior to application of the second control algorithm.

  • Patent number: 8301276
Abstract: A control device for the position control of a hydraulic cylinder unit has a controller which receives a set and an actual piston position and determines a preliminary manipulated variable based on the difference of the set and actual positions. A linearization unit multiplies the variable with a linearization factor and outputs it to the valve control unit so that the piston is adjusted at an adjustment speed. The linearization unit determines the factor dynamically as a function of the actual piston position and of working pressures that prevail at both piston sides. The linearization factor is determined such that a ratio of the adjustment speed to the difference of the set and actual positions is independent of the actual position and the working pressures. In the specific case where the controller is configured as a P controller, the order of the controller and the linearization unit can be reversed.

Abstract: Provided are a method and apparatus for controlling a sound field through an array speaker. The method includes calculating a coefficient of a filter that controls sound pressure of an input signal, based on a sound pressure ratio of a suppression area that suppresses sound emitted from an array speaker and an emphasis area that emphasizes the sound, and sound pressure efficiency in the emphasis area, generating a plurality of output signals that focuses the sound to the emphasis area by filtering the input signal based on the calculated coefficient of the filter, and outputting a sound field controlled sound based on the generated plurality of output signals. Accordingly, a listener in a predetermined direction and distance from the array speaker can clearly hear sound, without wearing an earphone or a headset so as to focus the sound only to the listener.

Abstract: A mechanical system selectively imparts a prescribed motion to an output load using two or more actuators, including at least one having an active material element. The output load can be a locking member when the system is a vehicle transmission, a shuttle car of a linear system, or another device. A controller determines a total motive force required for imparting the prescribed motion, and selectively commands a combination of the actuators to provide the total motive force, apportioning the total motive force between the various actuators to optimize the performance of the system. An algorithm determines which combination of the actuators is the most suitable in moving the output load, and continuously modified this combination as needed as the output load is moved. The other actuator or actuators are then selectively energized as needed to provide the total motive force depending on this suitability determination.

  • Patent number: 7110853
Abstract: A process and device for computer-aided adaptation of an application program for a machine tool is described. A sequence of control commands for feed axes of the machine tool defines a contour to be traveled by a tool relative to a workpiece. Based on the sequence of control commands, a computer determines sequential instructions for a round axle of the machine tool to track the contour and determines if, and possibly at which locations, the contour has angular or curvature discontinuities. When such angular or curvature discontinuities occur, the computer determines sequential instructions, so that the round axle begins to start accelerating before the angle or curvature discontinuities occurs, and the acceleration of the round axle terminates only after the angle or curvature discontinuity has ended.

  • Patent number: 6895287
Abstract: In a control method, the first controlled variable is made to coincide with a predetermined controlled variable set point. A relation variable representing the relationship between second controlled variables which are designated in advance from measured second controlled variables different from the first controlled variable so as to maintain a predetermined relationship is calculated. A control actuator is so controlled as to make the calculated relation variable coincide with a predetermined relation variable set point. The difference between the calculated relation variable and a relation variable set point corresponding to the calculated relation variable is calculated. The calculated difference is added to the measured first controlled variable. A manipulated variable is calculated by performing feedback control calculation so as to make the sum coincide with the controlled variable set point. The calculated manipulated variable is output to a corresponding control actuator.

  • Patent number: 6865426
Abstract: The present disclosure relates to a method for communicating and applying adaptive security to a data stream comprising a plurality of data packets. The method comprises the steps of identifying a desired security level range and a desired actual security level which falls within the desired security level range. The availability of a number of security processor operations at the host is determined so that, if needed, computing resources at the host can be reallocated to ensure that the data stream can be verified at the desired actual security level. If there are not sufficient resources available for reallocation at the host, communication resources can be reallocated, for example by changing the bandwidth of the data stream or another incoming data stream. With this method, the actual security level will be kept within the desired security level range.

  • Patent number: 6772062
Abstract: Methods and apparatus to sense both discrete and continuous magnetic reference systems installed in the roadway, and provide information to support lateral and, to some extent, longitudinal and vertical vehicle control and/or driver assistance. The position of an object, such as a vehicle, relative to a magnetic reference infrastructure, such as that representing a dividing line on a roadway, is determined by sensing, with a sensor associated with the object, at least one axial field strength component of the magnetic field emitted from the magnetic reference, computing a ratio of the sensed axial field strength components, and then determining the positional offset of the object as a function of the ratio. The lateral offset is independent of the magnetic field strength due to the use of the ratio which cancels out the magnetic field strength. The invention is also capable of providing three-dimensional positioning relative to a magnetic reference.

Abstract: When a motor vehicle is not in motion, an algorithm for establishing the initial zero point offset values for a yaw rate sensor as may be used in motor vehicle software control systems. The initial values are the manufactured values and are downloaded into the vehicle ECU at the time of the manufacture of the ECU. When the vehicle is waken at the vehicle assembly and the ignition is first turned on, the initial actual value of the zero point offset is stored both as a maximum and minimum value. At subsequent adjusting times when the vehicle is not moving, but the ignition is on, the spread between the maximum and minimum values are checked. If the spread becomes greater than a desired predetermined spread, the value, be it the maximum or minimum value reflects the measured value and the other value is adjusted to be within the desired spread. When the ignition is turned off and the vehicle is not moving, the zero point offset maximum and minimum values are stored in memory.
