Abstract: A control system calculates inputs to a control target that has m inputs and n outputs (m=n, each of m and n is a natural number that is more than one), while designating a plurality of combinations of the inputs and the outputs. A feedback controller calculates, with respect to each designated combination, a control input to a non-interference controller based on a difference between a target value and a current value of the control quantity to make the current value follow the target value. The non-interference controller executes, with respect to each designated combination, a non-interference control to reduce influence due to mutual interference between n control quantities. This reduces the number of combinations of the inputs and the outputs, the combinations whose mutual interference needs considering; thereby, the non-interference control may be easily achieved.

  • Patent number: 8188722
Abstract: An easy LSB tuning method is proposed for a digitally controlled DC-DC converter to increase the DC gain of the digitally controlled DC-DC converter under conditions of no-limit-cycle and a finite bit number to reduce steady-state error of the digitally controlled DC-DC converter. The LSB of one or more of the coefficients in the denominator of the discrete-time domain transfer function of the digital compensator in the digitally controlled DC-DC converter is so tuned that the sum of all coefficients in the denominator of the discrete-time domain transfer function becomes zero. Therefore, the influence of round-off effect on the coefficients of the digital compensator is mitigated.

Abstract: Control devices, methods, and programs set a final control value by smoothly shifting from the control value to a final control value. The devices, methods, and programs specify an operation amount of a user operation with respect to a prescribed control value, and access a pre-change control value that is a value of the control value before a completed change. Based on the accessed pre-change control value and the specified operation amount of the user operation, devices, methods, and programs set a final control value by changing the control value in a stepwise manner from the pre-change control value to the final control value within a prescribed control value range.

Abstract: Embodiments of the present invention are directed to dynamically measuring the speed of a circuit and modifying the operating voltage of the circuit based on the measured speed, in order to minimize the power being used while still ensuring proper operation of the circuit. Consequently, circuits of higher inherent speeds may have their voltages decreased (thus decreasing their actual speeds), while circuits of lower speeds may have their voltages increased, or kept the same. Thus, the resulting speeds of all circuits may be kept within a limited range to ensure proper operation. In addition, the power dissipated of circuits of higher speeds may be decreased.

  • Patent number: 8036762
Abstract: Complex filters may be used to achieve compensation of a plant, corresponding for example to a power regulator or point-of-load (POL) regulator. Digital filter coefficients may be mapped to analogous poles and zeros, or they may be mapped to values of the quality factor (Q) of the output, frequency, and gain. The plant may be observed and characterized using a network analyzer to generate the Bode plot (or Nyquist plot) for the plant. The digital filter coefficients may be mapped to features that may be identified on the Bode plot (or Nyquist plot) to easily correlate characteristics of the digital filter or digital compensator to the plant characteristics. The mapped features may be adjusted, for example by a user, either manually or by executing one or more optimization algorithms, to achieve the desired results relative to the Bode plot (or Nyquist plot).

  • Patent number: 8000817
Abstract: Process controllers, methods, and systems provide for frequency control to account for the effects of periodic disturbances in the feedback signal of closed loop control systems. The frequency components of the feedback signal are determined, including the magnitude and phase of each. Waveforms for each frequency component are generated with substantially the same magnitude and substantially the opposite phase of each frequency component. The waveforms are then summed to produce a compensating waveform that is summed within the output of the control system so that the effects of the periodic disturbances are cancelled from the control system output being provided to the system under control.

Abstract: A method of actuating a system comprising a movable component and an actuator configured to move the movable component comprises providing a control signal representative of a desired motion of the movable component. The control signal is supplied to one or more resonators. Each of the one or more resonators has a mode of oscillation representative of at least one elastic mode of oscillation of the system. The control signal is modified by subtracting from the control signal a signal representative of a response of the one or more resonators to the control signal. The actuator is operated in accordance with the modified control signal. Thus, undesirable elastic oscillations of the system which might occur if the system were operated with the original control system can be reduced.

  • Patent number: 7856282
Abstract: A member of a machine, such as a boom on construction equipment for example, is pivoted by a first actuator and has a length that is alterable by a second actuator. A control method allows an operator of the machine to command a point on the member to move along a straight line path. The operator command specifies velocities along two orthogonal axes and those velocities are transformed into an angular velocity and a length velocity for the member. The angular velocity and a length velocity then are converted into individual velocities for the first and second actuators. Each actuator is operated at its respective velocity to achieve the commanded movement of the member.
