  • Patent number: 9992045
Abstract: A method of and apparatus for on-line detection and identification of synchronous and asynchronous piecewise-constant signals corrupted by noise and distortion. The method achieves joint temporal and amplitude detection and identification by following an initial amplitude approximation with a change detection that continually converges to an accurate joint identification while continually correcting intermediate approximation errors via analysis of temporal signatures. In turn, the temporal identifications employ accumulated statistics partly determined by the initial amplitude approximation.

  • Patent number: 8666006
Abstract: Systems and methods are disclosed for improving digital feed-forward data recovery of high speed data from a received data stream in a data transceiver or receiver where the receiver clock is asynchronous to the transmitter clock used to transmit the received data stream. In one example, the received data stream is oversampled using N evenly-spaced multi-phase clocks. The oversampled data are packed into a data block. Data transition edges of the oversampled data in the data blocks with respect to multi-phase clocks are tracked. The tracked data transition edges are used to determine the length of a decision window and to further divide the oversampled data into groups of bits that are hypothesized to be samples of the same received data symbol. Bit mapping is performed on the decision window to recover the received data symbol. By tracking the movement of data transition edges, the technique enhances data recovery capability.

  • Patent number: 8417472
Abstract: A battery management system with synchronized data sampling for a battery pack including multiple battery cells is disclosed. The battery management system includes a plurality of local monitors coupled to a plurality of battery cells and operable for sampling status information for the battery cells. The battery management system further includes a central controller coupled to the local monitors and operable for broadcasting a sample command to the local monitor synchronously, wherein the local monitors start to sample the status information for the battery cells in response to the sample command.

Abstract: Combined force and proximity sensing is disclosed. One or more sensors can concurrently sense a force applied by an object on a device surface and a proximity of the object to the surface. In an example, a single sensor can sense both force and proximity via a resistance change and a capacitance change, respectively, at the sensor. In another example, multiple sensors can be used, where one sensor can sense force via either a resistance change or a capacitance change and another sensor can sense proximity via a capacitance change.

  • Patent number: 8340791
Abstract: An industrial process device for monitoring or controlling an industrial process includes a first input configured to receive a first plurality of samples related to a first process variable and a second input configured to receive a second plurality of samples related to a second process variable. Compensation circuitry is configured to compensate for a time difference between the first plurality of samples and the second plurality of samples and provide a compensated output related to at least one of the first and second process variables. The compensated output can comprise, or can be used to calculate a third process variable. The third process variable can be used to monitor or control the industrial process.

  • Publication number: 20120290105
Abstract: A method for operating, monitoring and/or configuring an automation system of a technical plant from a remote device may include a control software ensuring that the software processes of an operating and monitoring software and/or a configuration software relevant for a communication via a public network are terminated. After setting up a secure communication link from the device to the automation system via the public network, an endpoint of the communication link in the remote device is assigned a network address and the software processes of the operating and monitoring software and/or configuration software relevant for a communication via the public network are started. The data packets sent by the operating and monitoring software and/or configuration software for operating, monitoring and/or configuring the automation system are diverted to the network address by the control software.

  • Patent number: 8301498
Abstract: A video demographics analysis system selects a training set of videos to use to correlate viewer demographics and video content data. The video demographics analysis system extracts demographic data from viewer profiles related to videos in the training set and creates a set of demographic distributions, and also extracts video data from videos in the training set. The video demographics analysis system correlates the viewer demographics with the video data of videos viewed by that viewer. Using the prediction model produced by the machine learning process, a new video about which there is no a priori knowledge can be associated with a predicted demographic distribution specifying probabilities of the video appealing to different types of people within a given demographic category, such as people of different ages within an age demographic category.
