  • Patent number: 6879863
Abstract: An apparatus is provided to control a plumbing fixture, such as a whirlpool, that has electrically operated components. The apparatus has a dial that is moveable by the user into a plurality of positions to select a function of the plumbing fixture to be controlled. A unique sensor arrangement detects motion and the direction of the motion and provides a signal to a controller that changes the valve of a pointer that designates which function is presently selected. The user then presses a keypad to indicate whether the selected function is to be activated or deactivated and to control the intensity of the selected function. The signals from the keypad also are applied to the controller.

  • Patent number: 6823223
Abstract: A method and apparatus for providing a simple user interface for programming scenes and multi-way groups in a home automation and control system is provided. Each device participating in the home automation and control system is equipped with control logic for providing the simple programming interface. Through the control logic, each device maintains its status in a system-wide programming mode and retains knowledge of its inclusion or exclusion in the current scene or multi-way group being programmed. When any device in the system receives indications that affect the system programming mode, such as a press on one of the buttons on the devices, the device broadcasts a notification message to all devices within the home automation and control system. The message maintains the integrity of the system programming mode. Each device knows when a scene or multi-way group being programmed is finally captured and the programming of a new scene or multi-way group has started.

Abstract: A precision positioning device comprises a hydraulic cylinder extending along the vertical direction and a piston member accommodated in the cylinder. The inside of the cylinder is divided into two chambers by a piston head of the piston member. A hydraulic circuit supplies a fluid at a constant pressure to one of the two chambers and supplies the fluid at a controlled flow rate to the other of the chambers via a servo valve. A control system performs position control with respect to the piston member by controlling the servo valve based on a detection signal from the position sensor, a position command value, a velocity command value, and an acceleration command value. The control system also performs force control with respect to the piston member by controlling the servo valve using detection signals from the first and second pressure sensors and a load command value.

Abstract: Methods are disclosed for collecting sensor data in a pressure regulator system including a controller and a plurality of sensors. The controller and each of the individual sensors are activated as required to collect sensor data during a sampling period thereby reducing the amount of power consumed by the pressure regulator system. Further power conservation measures are implemented by using a battery sensor to monitor the capacity of the pressure regulator battery and placing the pressure regulator in reduced power consumption operating modes as the capacity of the battery is reduced.

Abstract: An electronic control apparatus for a control object makes a mode check before each program part is retrieved even at a predetermined start timing, and inhibits a retrieval of program parts unnecessary for operation modes including a normal mode, inspection mode or rewrite mode. As it is not necessary to check the mode in the processing of each program part, the control processing for the control object can be executed efficiently in each mode. As the program parts unnecessary for the specified operation mode is not retrieved either in the specified operation mode, the processing efficiency is increased.

  • Patent number: 6662059
Abstract: In a process control data base, intermediate characteristics, processing condition for controlling a characteristic and a final characteristic in a process of manufacturing products are stored as a set of data for each product lot. In Process 1, a set of data for each product lot are prepared. Next, in Process 2, cluster processing is conducted on each set of data obtained in Process 1. In Process 3, using the set of data obtained in Process 2, the intermediate characteristics and the processing condition for controlling a characteristic are inputted and the final characteristic is outputted, and a causal relation between the input and output is quantified by a neural network so as to make a learning model. In a model applying stage, the most appropriate processing condition for controlling a characteristic is retrieved by using the learning model and the intermediate characteristics in the previous steps.

  • Publication number: 20030176932
Abstract: An apparatus and method for measuring a characteristic of a machine. A variable reluctance sensor (VRS) is coupled to the machine. A first switching device and capacitor, coupled in parallel with the VRS, boosts a variable amplitude of a basic output signal generated by the VRS to increase the signal-to-noise ratio. A control input of the first switching device receives signals, and a modified output signal is generated by the first switching device, having a variable amplitude that is substantially higher than the variable amplitude of the VRS. The modified output signal has an increased signal-to-noise ratio such that machine speed can be more accurately measured during a start-up phase.
