  • Patent number: 7584073
Abstract: A method for checking the appropriateness of an aircraft ground mass value Ms, communicated to a flight management system of the aircraft by a crew member of the aircraft or by an airline operating the aircraft, the communication taking place before a takeoff of the aircraft from a departure airport to a destination airport. The method includes two checking phases. A first direct appropriateness check, based on a cross-check of independent information related to the mass of the aircraft. A second indirect appropriateness check based on a comparison between values of performance parameters calculated on the basis of the mass value of the aircraft Ms and of the values of the same performance parameters provided by a manufacturer of the aircraft.

Abstract: A scrap metal recycling monitoring system, wherein a container, identified and of a known tare weight is associated with a scale while scrap metal is placed therein. The scale continuously monitors the weight of the container, and can be polled, or automatically produces an auditable data stream revealing the change in weight of the container over time as it is associated with the scale. A camera records the container while it is on the scale and also produces auditable image data. As containers near capacity, a notice is automatically generated to coordinate dispatch activities of persons transporting containers.

  • Publication number: 20090187349
Abstract: Described is a consumption monitoring device for monitoring the amount of consumables consumed by an animal during a monitoring period. More specifically, the consumption monitoring device measures the weight of the consumables, which are contained within a receptacle, and detects any change in the weight, such as when additional consumables are placed within the receptacle or when the animal consumes all or some of the consumables. The device calculates various values based on these changes in weight, at least one of which indicates the amount of consumables consumed by the animal. The device displays this calculated value such that the user is informed of the amount of consumables consumed by the animal within the monitoring period. This information assists the user in maintaining the animal on a desired feeding program.

Abstract: A pin bearing arrangement for use on an aircraft landing gear includes a pin and a load sensor arrangement, which may include strain gauges for measuring shear loads and accelerometers for measuring loads sustained by the pin. The pin includes a self-contained data logging device for logging data concerning loads sustained by the pin. Thus, inside the pin, there may be provided a processing unit, a memory store, and a battery-based power source. During normal operation of the aircraft fatigue loads may be monitored, the processing unit receiving input signals from the means for measuring loads and storing load data in the memory. The stored load data may periodically be extracted from the memory during maintenance of the aircraft.

Abstract: A gantry to be used in the construction process of bridges, viaducts and other structures, which is equipped with a system that automatically adjusts the prestressing of the gantry's structure in accordance to the external actions being applied on it when loadings occur. The adjustment of the prestressing is achieved through the use of at least one sensor (2) that monitors the structure and which sends the measurements taken to a controller (6), . This controller is then capable of activating at least one actuator which alters the tension of the structure's prestressing cable or cables. Amongst the many advantages of the present invention, one is the possibility of applying a large amount of prestressing without this implying undesirable deformations in the main structure (1) when exterior loads are not applied.

Abstract: Method and system for obtaining and optionally utilizing information about an occupant of a vehicle includes a weight sensor system arranged in connection with a bottom portion of a seat on which the occupant will be seated to provide data about weight of an occupant, and a spatial sensor system which monitors a space above the seat in which the occupant would be situated if seated in the seat to provide data about occupancy of the space above the seat. Information about the occupant is determined based on data provided by the weight sensor system and the spatial sensor system. The weight sensor system is a bladder arranged in the bottom portion or at least one strain gage mounted on structural members of the seat.

  • Patent number: 7340372
Abstract: In order to determine the dielectric constant of a layer deposited on a semiconductor wafer (2), the density of the layer is obtained. To obtain that density, the wafer (2) without the layer is weighed in a weighing chamber (4) in which a weighing pan (7) supports the wafer on a weighing balance. The weight of the wafer is determined taking into account the buoyancy exerted by the air on the wafer (2). Then the layer is deposited on the wafer (2) and the weighing operation repeated. Alternatively a reference wafer may be used. If the material of the layer is known, the weight of the layer can be used to derive its density using a thickness measurement. Alternatively, if the density is known, the thickness can be obtained.

Abstract: Embodiments of the present invention provide a computer implemented method, apparatus, and computer program product for estimating, refining, and using the tare mass for an item to determine and monitor item depletion. In response to detecting an initial presence of an item in the storage unit, a controller collects data about the item. The controller then searches a database for a recorded item containing the same item identification. The tare mass of the item is set equal to the refined tare mass of the recorded item retrieved from the database. The tare mass is then used to calculate a depletion threshold for the item.

Abstract: A system and method of calculating chemical usage during a refilling of a supply tank, which includes the steps of providing a chemical system having a first supply tank of known capacity, wherein the tank is mounted upon an electronic scale. The scale is capable of generating a series of signals related to the weight of the tank when empty and at various levels of fill. A system controller receives a series of signals from the scale relating to the weight of the tank when empty and at various levels of fill. The first supply tank is filled from a source of chemical feed and the fill time for the filling of the first supply tank is obtained. The system controller inputs the series of signals from the scale relating to the weight of the tank when empty and at various levels of fill and calculates a usage during refilling based on a feed rate times the fill time.
