Abstract: An online auction bidding system utilizes a three state auction model that includes an auction open state, followed by a closing state, and an auction closed state which occurs last in which the online auction is ended and bids will not be accepted. The highest bid received prior to the auction end is considered the winning bid. In the auction open state, bids are guaranteed to be accepted if they are qualified, for example, by meeting certain conditions such as being above a current high bid by some desired increment. The closing state is of indeterminate length and thus the time that the online auction ends is unknown by the bidders which makes the practice of sniping difficult. Qualified bids are accepted during the closing state but bidders run the risk that a later bid will not be accepted should the auction end prior to that bid being placed.

Abstract: A system and method is disclosed that provides an exchange marketplace for the use of vacation properties and other assets such as airplanes, yachts, etc. An inventory of items available for purchase or auction, each representing a use of an asset, is maintained. Auction bids or offers to purchase items in the inventory may be made either by offering to pay cash or by offering in trade a new item also representing use of an asset. An equivalent cash value is determined for new items offered in trade, and the transaction allowed to proceed if the determined value of the new item offered equals or exceeds the price of current bid of the item sought. The system thus allows for maximum flexibility in renting and trading the use of vacation properties and other assets.

Abstract: A system and method for facilitating an on-line fee based auction of an item is provided. The item has a predetermined pre-funding requirement amount that needs to be satisfied for the item to become a live auction item. Users may fund the item, which will count toward satisfying the pre-funding requirement amount of the item. For funding the item, the users are provided with a number of bid credits corresponding to their funding amount, which can be used by the users in bidding on any of the live auction items. Each of the live auction items are associated with an independent countdown timer indicative of the time remaining until the end of the auction, and each bid placed by the users adjusts the countdown timer.

The method receives, over a network at a social shopping platform, a request from a user in a first community of users. The method identifies the first network-based marketplace from the network-based marketplaces based on the request. The request is for an activity associated with the first network-based marketplace. The first network-based marketplace is used by the first community of users to transact items of a single domain that is of interest to the first community of users. The method updates a listing reputation score based on the activity associated with the first network-based marketplace and a user reputation score based on the listing reputation score.

In one embodiment, the apparatus comprises a server entity adapted to communicate with a plurality of information sources (such as sources having vehicle history information, estimated valuation information, etc.) The server entity compiles information received from the plurality of sources and formats the information for efficient delivery to a client device via e.g., SMS based text messaging, internet-based instant messaging, or the like. Abstract: A system and method for allocating conditional purchase offers (CPO) among a plurality of agency-based and broadcast-based sellers in a buyer-driven commerce system. In one embodiment, the system determines which agency-based or broadcast-based sellers can fulfill or satisfy the CPO and orders those sellers in a priority order. In another embodiment, the priority is determined by relative market share and number of recent opportunities to satisfy the CPO. In another embodiment, the priority is also determined by metrics and buyer information. In another embodiment, the priority is determined randomly. The system ensures that when a buyer can satisfy the CPO at multiple prices levels, the highest price level fulfills the CPO. This ensures maximum seller revenue for each CPO.

Participants' quantities bid at a given time may be restricted to be less than or equal to the quantities bid at an earlier time. These features provide the advantage of improving economic efficiency of the auction design over the prior art.

These systems and methods preferably include the trading of futures and options contracts, which will provide the liquidity and distribution network for luxury items. Possible embodiments of these systems and methods include the trading of futures and options contracts for diamonds and wine. Another embodiment of this invention preferably includes generating indexes for diamond prices, wine prices, luxury item prices, housing values, mortgage prepayments, privately-held companies or for anything with from sufficiently liquid points of value. Another embodiment of this invention preferably includes a centralized data base for retrieving closing and current auction prices for determining the value of, and best method for the auctioning of various items. The data provided by this data base would improve liquidity by creating greater price transparency.

The consumer sends the gift card to a recipient with a predetermined merchant. The recipient receives the gift card and decides to switch the gift card from the predetermined merchant to a desired merchant. The recipient requests the service provider to change the merchant, and the service provider delivers the amount from escrow to the desired merchant. If the recipient does desire to use the predetermined merchant, the recipient contacts the service provider for activation and the service provider transfers the amount to the predetermined merchant.

A plurality of bids defining a price for completing a desired number of program outputs in a desired amount of time are received. The amount of computing resources required to fulfill each bid is determined. A price per unit of time for the computing resources for each bid is calculated based on the price associated with the bid and the determined amount of computing resources required to fulfill the bids. The bids are fulfilled based on the calculated price per unit of time.

The negotiations can be required to be progressive and during the negotiations a buyer or seller is, typically, allowed to withdraw his or her proposals. The architecture can include a registration component that can resolve concurrency and facilitate a registration of an agreement between two of the parties. The registration of an agreement can create a binding obligation between the parties after which other outstanding proposals can be terminated.
