  • Patent number: 8196057
Abstract: When keys are typed on a calculator keyboard displayed on an scientific electronic calculator emulation screen, not only are key data items of the calculator stored sequentially into a key log memory and displayed on a log screen, but also a calculation process corresponding to the key input is executed and displayed on a calculator display. Then, when the “selector” button on the tool bar is input, a calculator function name to be executed on the basis of the key log displayed on the log screen is retrieved from a function corresponding key log memory and is replaced with a display area of the key log. Then, the display area is displayed. Accordingly, with the key logs displayed on the log screen, what processes the series of key logs are supposed to execute can be recognized easily.

  • Patent number: 7984053
Abstract: The American legal system, judges and lawyers are continually researching an ever-expanding body of past judicial opinions, or case law, for the ones most relevant to resolution of new disputes. To facilitate these searches, some companies collect and publish the judicial opinions of courts across the United States in both paper and electronic forms, with some of the cases containing references to prior cases from other courts that have previously ruled on all or part of the same dispute. Identifying the prior cases is problematic, because, for example, conventional computer text-matching not only suggests too many non-prior cases, but also misses too many actual prior cases. Accordingly, the present inventors devised systems, methods, and software that generally facilitate identification of one or more documents that are related to a given document, and particularly facilitate identification of prior cases for a given case.

  • Patent number: 7013187
Abstract: A control procedure is provided for use during a regulation stage and according to a set point of a physical dynamic system, the set point being subject to, whilst operating, the influence of several physical quantities represented by input parameters, and adopting a behavior defined by at least a first physical output parameter, obliged to take a value represented by the set point, the first output parameter being linked to at least a first of the input parameters by a first transfer function of the system. According to the control procedure, a characterization stage is implemented in which at least a first inverse transfer function linking the first input parameter to the first output parameter is experimentally determined. A modeling stage is implemented in which the first inverse transfer function is translated through a fuzzy logic model in the form of a first set of ranges of the first output parameter, to each of which is attributed a specific value of the first input parameter.

Abstract: An optimized method of computing the value of the degree of membership of a fuzzy variable defined within a universe of discourse that is discreted into a finite number of points by way of a membership function thereof, wherein the membership function is quantified into a finite number of levels corresponding to a finite number of degrees of truth, and is stored as a characteristic value of each subset of fuzzy variable values being all mirrored in one value of said degree of membership corresponding to one of said levels. The computing method includes generating a binary sequence; generating an address signal from the bits in the binary sequence; reading the contents of the memory storing the membership functions at each address signal to obtain a characteristic value; and comparing the characteristic value with the value of a fuzzy input variable.

  • Patent number: 6898585
Abstract: Machine operators rely on intuition and experience to evaluate vehicle performance. As we increasingly turn to automation, it is important to automatically evaluate sensor data and system performance. Fuzzy logic allows us to take advantage of domain knowledge to evaluate data and to describe a system linguistically. In this application a fuzzy quality module evaluates output from a noisy sensor. It compares the sensor data with an estimated sensor value, and based on that comparison, dynamically adapts a fuzzy logic rulebase used to determine whether the sensor value is valid or not.

Candidates, each having one or more criteria associated therewith, are entered into the system via an input interface such as a keyboard. In addition, test rationale may be entered and associated with candidates and criteria to facilitate human comprehension of test data and results. Criteria are weighted using pair-wise comparisons to minimize errors introduced by the judgment of test engineers. Then candidates are evaluated using pair-wise comparison techniques. Sensitivity checks are performed on evaluated criteria. Processed candidates and criteria are then made available to a system operator in formats that are selectable by the operator.

  • Patent number: 6760713
Abstract: A fuzzy data record pointer is utilized for identification of both a target file and a target data record within the target file. A target data record is accessed from a target file, selected from a set of N related files, utilizing a fuzzy data record pointer (“fuzzy”, as used herein, means that the data record pointer need not be coincident with the actual data record address). A modulus for the data record pointer divided by N is computed. This modulus is used to select the target file. A data record address is computed for the target data record utilizing the data record pointer and modulus. In this manner a fuzzy data record pointer is utilized to determine both the target file from a set of N related files and the target data record to be accessed within the target file.

  • Patent number: 6205439
Abstract: An adaptive run-time controller is used to adjust the run-time of a fabrication and assembly process simulation model based on inputs generated by outside forces. The run-time controller utilizes fuzzy logic to evaluate the outside forces against existing control rules to determine new simulation run-times based upon this evaluation. The run-time controller then analyzes and adjusts the existing control rules based on current, historical and trend data. The new rules are integrated into the run-time controller to accurately reflect the current status of the fabrication and assembly process for subsequent simulation runs. As such, the run-time controller inputs and evaluates outside forces that were impossible or impracticable to integrate in the simulation model.
