  • Patent number: 10390797
Abstract: A device and a method for computing a weighted-average-based position of a shear wave in a temporal domain based on a sampling of shear wave displacements along a propagation path of the shear wave. The weighted-average-based position is, for example, by displacement observed at a plurality of times that correspond to sampling, and represents a time of arrival of the shear wave at a location being sampled along the propagation path. Further, times of arrival of the shear wave at respective locations along the propagation path are functionally related to known inter-location distances to derive shear-wave group velocity. The derived shear-wave group velocity serves as an input into algorithms for estimating a shear elasticity of a medium, such as a body tissue, for purposes of a clinical diagnosis and therapy assessment.

  • Patent number: 7882119
Abstract: A method for aligning documents which may be in different XML formats includes inputting source and target leaves of a source and documents in first and second tree structured formats and assigning a cost to each of a plurality of matches. Each match may include a source leaf and a target leaf or be an unmatched source or target leaf. Matches are identified for which a total cost is minimal, wherein each of the leaves is in at least one of the identified matches. From the identified matches, groups of two or more matches are identified which have a leaf in common. From the groups, probable matches are identified in which more that one target leaf is matched with at least one source leaf or more than one source leaf is matched with a target leaf. An alignment between leaves of the target document and leaves of the source document is output which includes the probable matches.

  • Patent number: 6898585
Abstract: Machine operators rely on intuition and experience to evaluate vehicle performance. As we increasingly turn to automation, it is important to automatically evaluate sensor data and system performance. Fuzzy logic allows us to take advantage of domain knowledge to evaluate data and to describe a system linguistically. In this application a fuzzy quality module evaluates output from a noisy sensor. It compares the sensor data with an estimated sensor value, and based on that comparison, dynamically adapts a fuzzy logic rulebase used to determine whether the sensor value is valid or not.

  • Patent number: 6763337
Abstract: A method, and a system applying the method, for an exact and computationally efficient solution for defuzzification uses linear and non-linear weighted wedge approaches. Fuzzy numbers are used to represent parameters in a number of applications, including design dependent parameters (DDPs) for a project in particular. A defuzzification technique is used within the domain of fuzzy logic, fuzzy set theory, and multi-valued logic to overcome the problem of the lack of absolute ordering of a fuzzy number representation. The requirement profile for the DDP (the fuzzy representation of customer requirements) is compared to the anticipation profile for the DDP (the fuzzy representation of expected performance) in three dimensions. In two dimensions, the area of overlap between the DDP requirement profile and the DDP anticipation profile represents how well the customer requirements have been met.

  • Patent number: 6633783
Abstract: Because of the enormous number of neurons and reflex pathways involved in the control of human motion, a comprehensive identification of the structure of the feedback control circuitry is a formidable experimental task. A theoretical approach based on a carefully developed model could shed light on its likely general structure, thereby providing guidance to experimenters. This paper presents a fuzzy logic based control strategy for modeling the human postural dynamics. In particular, we develop a fuzzy controller to coordinate the movement of a three segment sagittal human model to achieve upright posture. The actuation mechanism of the system consists of six muscle like actuators which are co-activated to modulate the stiffness at the joints. Simulation results are presented to illustrate the underlying principles.

  • Patent number: 6578017
Abstract: The invention uses fuzzy logic and/or probability distributions to automatically calculate and display the effects of contextual information on the confidence that an object in an image is an object of interest. The goal is to assist in determining the location and type of target objects of interest in that imagery. The imagery can come from any kind of imaging sensor or can be non-sensor imagery (e.g., two-and three-dimensional maps), and can be live or archived imagery. The locations of context objects can be provided by a human or a computer. The resulting set of data, including the original imagery, the locations of context objects, any results from AOD, and predictions about target object type and location, can be combined into a display that helps a human better understand where target object appears in the imagery.

  • Patent number: 6424736
Abstract: A method of determining the visibility of a target in a background uses search time as the output. A set of images of the target in the background is made, and selected input variables in each image are measured. The input variables relate to target size, target juxtaposition relative to the viewer's location, luminance of the target and luminance of the background scene. One version of our method additionally uses wavelet edge points as an input variable. Each input variable, as well as the output variable, has several applicable membership functions by which membership values are assigned to the variables. Choosing membership functions for variables is done by fuzzy rules. Applying the fuzzy rules and membership functions produces multiple values for the output variable. These values are defuzzified to obtain a crisp end result. This result can disqualify proposed target designs or to help select among several good designs of the target.

  • Patent number: 6330553
Abstract: An autonomic system for updating a fuzzy neural network includes a process of calculating an estimated value based on fuzzy inference by using a neural network structure, wherein a parameter to be adjusted or identified by fuzzy inference and outputted from the neural network is made to correspond to coupling loads which are updated by learning, i.e., fuzzy rules and membership functions are adjusted by learning. This system is characterized in that the addition and deletion of fuzzy rules are conducted based on changes in output errors in an autonomic manner, thereby effectively obtaining appropriate numbers of fuzzy rules optimal for an object such as a vehicle engine having strong non-linearity. Fuzzy rules are formed by a combination of membership functions representing variables such as an engine speed and a throttle angle.

Abstract: An adaptive run-time controller is used to adjust the run-time of a fabrication and assembly process simulation model based on inputs generated by outside forces. The run-time controller utilizes fuzzy logic to evaluate the outside forces against existing control rules to determine new simulation run-times based upon this evaluation. The run-time controller then analyzes and adjusts the existing control rules based on current, historical and trend data. The new rules are integrated into the run-time controller to accurately reflect the current status of the fabrication and assembly process for subsequent simulation runs. As such, the run-time controller inputs and evaluates outside forces that were impossible or impracticable to integrate in the simulation model.

Abstract: The analog processor can carry out processings independently of the operating temperature and process parameters, in a reliable manner and at high performance levels using fairly simple circuitry. To achieve this independence, the processor is basically implemented and integrated with MOS transistors, has both voltage inputs and outputs, and includes a biasing section which supplies voltage bias signals, of which at least one is substantially the sum of a voltage proportional to the threshold voltage of the MOS transistors and a reference voltage. This reference voltage can be extracted from a reference potential which is stable to temperature and process parameters, for example that produced by a bandgap type of generator. A major feature of the processor according to the invention is the linearity of its input-output characteristic relative to that reference voltage.

Abstract: A dual-line system of controlling or monitoring processes or industrial plants employing a dual-line fuzzy unit is presented in which due allowance can be made for both positive and negative rules. These are rules issuing "positive recommendations" and "warnings" or "prohibitions" for the selection of the values of the output variables for the fuzzy unit. The dual-line system enables logical compromises to be made between these "recommendations" and "warnings" or "prohibitions". Along with the possibility of drawing on positive empirical knowledge, use of this dual-line system also creates the possibility of utilizing negative empirical knowledge with the same degree of transparency with which positive empirical knowledge has previously been used in conventional fuzzy units. The warnings serve to protect the plant or resources or to prevent undesirable control behavior. The inclusion of warnings or, more especially, prohibitions is also of interest for warranties of operational reliability.
