  • Patent number: 11861502
Abstract: A model receives a target demand curve as an input and outputs an optimized control sequence that allows equipment within a physical space to be run optimally. A thermodynamic model is created that represents equipment within the physical space, with the equipment being laid out as nodes within the model according to the equipment flow in the physical space. The equipment activation functions comprise equations that mimic equipment operation. Values flow between the nodes similarly to how states flow between the actual equipment. The model is run such that a control sequence is used as input into the neural network; the neural network outputs a demand curve which is then checked against the target demand curve. Machine learning methods are then used to determine a new control sequence. The model is run until a goal state is reached.

  • Patent number: 11775807
Abstract: An artificial neural network (ANN) system includes a processor, a virtual overflow detection circuit and a data format controller. The processor performs node operations with respect to a plurality of nodes included in each layer of an ANN to obtain a plurality of result values of the node operations and performs a quantization operation on the obtained plurality of result values based on a k-th fixed-point format for a current quantization of the each layer to obtain a plurality of quantization values. The virtual overflow detection circuit generates a virtual overflow information indicating a distribution of valid bit numbers of the obtained plurality of quantization values. The data format controller determines a (k+1)-th fixed-point format for a next quantization of the each layer based on the generated virtual overflow information. An overflow and/or an underflow are prevented efficiently by controlling the fixed-point format using the virtual overflow.

  • Patent number: 8762305
Abstract: The present invention relates to a system for mapping external inputs and internal goals toward actions that solve problems or elicit external rewards. The present invention allows an instructor to test and train an agent to perform dynamic task selection (executive control) by using a schema that computes the agent's emotional and motivational states from reward/punishment inputs and sensory inputs (visual, auditory, kinematic, tactile, olfactory, somatosensory, and motor inputs). Specifically, the invention transforms the sensory inputs into unimodal and bimodal spatio-temporal schemas that are combined with the reward/punishment inputs and with the emotional and motivation states to create an external/internal schema (EXIN schema), that provides a compressed representation assessing the agent's emotions, motivations, and rewards. The invention uses the EXIN schema to create a motor schema to be executed by the agent to dynamically perform the task selected by the instructor.

  • Patent number: 8311973
Abstract: Generally, decisions are based on information. To be useful, information must be reliable. Basically, the concept of a Z-number relates to the issue of reliability of information. A Z-number, Z, has two components, Z=(A,B). The first component, A, is a restriction (constraint) on the values which a real-valued uncertain variable, X, is allowed to take. The second component, B, is a measure of reliability (certainty) of the first component. Typically, A and B are described in a natural language, for example: (about 45 minutes, very sure). Z-number has many applications, especially in the realms of economics, decision analysis, risk assessment, prediction, anticipation, rule-based characterization of imprecise functions and relations, and biomedicine. Different methods, applications, and systems are discussed. Other Fuzzy concepts are also discussed.

  • Patent number: 8190307
Abstract: The control optimization method for helicopters carrying suspended loads during hover flight utilizes a controller based on time-delayed feedback of the load swing angles. The controller outputs include additional displacements, which are added to the helicopter trajectory in the longitudinal and lateral directions. This simple implementation requires only a small modification to the software of the helicopter position controller. Moreover, the implementation of this controller does not need rates of the swing angles. The parameters of the controllers are optimized using the method of particle swarms by minimizing an index that is a function of the history of the load swing. Simulation results show the effectiveness of the controller in suppressing the swing of the slung load while stabilizing the helicopter.

Abstract: The fuzzy logic-based control method for helicopters carrying suspended loads utilizes a controller based on fuzzy logic membership distributions of sets of load swing angles. The anti-swing controller is fuzzy-based and has controller outputs that include additional displacements added to the helicopter trajectory in the longitudinal and lateral directions. This simple implementation requires only a small modification to the software of the helicopter position controller. The membership functions govern control parameters that are optimized using a particle swarm algorithm. The rules of the anti-swing controller are derived to mimic the performance of a time-delayed feedback controller. A tracking controller stabilizes the helicopter and tracks the trajectory generated by the anti-swing controller.

  • Patent number: 7383235
Abstract: A method of controlling a process driven by a control signal for producing a corresponding output includes producing an error signal as a function of a state of the process and of a reference signal. A control signal is generated as a function of the error signal and of a parameter adjustment signal. The control signal is applied to the process. A derived signal representative of a quantity to be minimized is calculated by processing paired values of the state of the process and the control signal. A correction signal is calculated from a set of several different values of the control signal that minimizes the derived signal. The parameter adjustment signal is calculated by a neural network and fuzzy logic processor from the error signal and the correction signal. The correction signal is periodically calculated by a Quantum Genetic Search Algorithm that results from a merging of a genetic algorithm and a quantum search algorithm.

Abstract: It is objective of the invention to provide a highly reliable control apparatus and method which reduces the amount of calculation required for both learning of an input/output relationship and actual control as well as prevent inappropriate outputs from being generated for inputs which have been never learned. According to one aspect of the invention, pairs of an input pattern vector for learning and a target output are distributed to a class based on the target output. Then, a correspondence between each element of the input pattern vector for learning and the target output is learned only in that class, and a distribution function is calculated for distributing a new input pattern vector for learning to that class. After the completion of this learning, the distribution function is used to determine which class a new input pattern vector detected by a sensor belongs to. Finally, an output is calculated according to the learning result of that class.

The neural controller is used to approximate the nonlinear functions (actuator electromechanical dynamics) of the voice coil motor while having on line training. One main advantage of this approach, when compared with standard adaptive control, is that complex dynamical analysis is not needed. Using this design, not only strong robustness with respect to uncertain dynamics and non-linearities can be obtained, but also the output tracking error between the plant output and the desired reference can asymptotically converge to zero. Additionally, standard offline training, utilizing training vectors to stimulate the voice coil motor, is not required.

The method includes the storing and ensiling of a feedstock, preferably a biomass, to form a digester feed material, which then processed by a digester. The process evolves a biogas and forms a digested material. The process is monitored, to collect a plurality of digester data from all stages of the process. These individual points or elements of the data are telemetered to a cumulative data base for storage and eventual retrieval and the cumulative data base is mined to compile predictive, feed forward controls and construct feedstock correlations between the metabolic activity within the digesters and an analysis of the feedstocks into the digesters. The method further includes the production of a high quality plant growth media from the digested mash, and recovery of the biogas generated within the digester.

  • Patent number: 6009421
Abstract: A device and a method use a decision-tree induction analysis to determine a web tension ratio range for which web breaks are less likely to occur within a printing system based on web tension data collected from a plurality of previous runs of the printing system. The device and method also measure two are more web tensions during operation of the printing system, calculate a web tension ratio and compare that calculated web tension ratio with the determined web tension ratio range. When the calculated web tension ratio falls outside of the determined web tension ratio range, the device and method alert a user to the fact that a condition leading to a web break is present and/or control the measured web tensions to drive the calculated web tension ratio to be within the determined web tension ratio range.

  • Patent number: 5835682
Abstract: A dynamical system analyser (10) incorporates a computer (22) to perform a singular value decomposition of a time series of signals from a nonlinear (possibly chaotic) dynamical system (14). Relatively low-noise singular vectors from the decomposition are loaded into a finite impulse response filter (34). The time series is formed into Takens' vectors each of which is projected onto each of the singular vectors by the filter (34). Each Takens' vector thereby provides the co-ordinates of a respective point on a trajectory of the system (14) in a phase space. A heuristic processor (44) is used to transform delayed co-ordinates by QR decomposition and least squares fitting so that they are fitted to non-delayed co-ordinates. The heuristic processor (44) generates a mathematical model to implement this transformation, which predicts future system states on the basis of respective current states. A trial system is employed to generate like co-ordinates for transformation in the heuristic processor (44).
