Tools To Automate Schema Definition Process Patents (Class 707/601)
  • Patent number: 8229882
Abstract: The invention makes use of a single data structure to define all of the information and parameters necessary for the efficient sharing and exchange of entire or partial BI applications. The invention enables a user to capture preferences that are applicable to both ends of the exchange, namely the source and the target systems. It provides for users to be presented with a comprehensive list of preferences and smart defaults from which they can select, and in some cases override, at both the source and target end points of the exchange. The actual metadata exchange is persisted as an exchange structure in a computer system file system called an exchange archive.

  • Patent number: 8200613
Abstract: An approach for reconciling a data warehouse includes automatically identifying, based upon a change made to a definition of an object, one or more other objects in the data warehouse that are affected by the change made to the definition of the object. The object and the other objects may be any type or form of data, for example, database tables or routines, and the invention is not limited to any particular type of object. Dependency analysis is used to evaluate dependency data to identify the one or more other objects affected by the change made to the definition of the object. The dependency data specifies dependencies between the object and the one or more other objects. The dependency data may also specify dependencies between the one or more other objects. As described in more detail hereinafter, the dependency data used may vary depending upon a particular function to be performed.

Abstract: A method for producing a summary A of data points in an unaggregated data stream wherein the data points are in the form of weighted keys (a, w) where a is a key and w is a weight, and the summary is a sample of k keys a with adjusted weights wa. A first reservoir L includes keys having adjusted weights which are additions of weights of individual data points of included keys and a second reservoir T includes keys having adjusted weights which are each equal to a threshold value ? whose value is adjusted based upon tests of new data points arriving in the data stream. The summary combines the keys and adjusted weights of the first reservoir L with the keys and adjusted weights of the second reservoir T to form the sample representing the data stream upon which further analysis may be performed.

  • Patent number: 8086560
Abstract: A method, system and program product for specifying, in a schema mapping framework, a mapping between a source schema and a target schema. The source and target schemas are schemas included in respective groups of registered, heterogeneous schemas. The source and target schemas may be of different types. Serialized versions of the source and target schemas include source objects and target objects, respectively. A mapping model is serialized into mapping objects that include logical references representing the source objects and logical references representing the target objects. The logical references are resolved to the source objects and target objects, thereby storing pointers to the source objects and to the target objects. After resolving the logical references, the mapping model includes the logical references and the pointers to the source and target objects.

Abstract: Methods and apparatus are provided for mapping XML source documents to target documents using schema embeddings. According to one aspect of the invention, one or more edges in the one or more source schemas are mapped to one or more paths in at least one target schema. The disclosed mapping techniques ensure that (i) one or more source documents that conform to one or more of the source schemas can be recovered from one or more target documents that conform to the at least one target schema, if a mapping exists between the one or more of the source schemas and the at least one target schema; (ii) queries on one or more source documents that conform to one or more of the source schemas in a given query language can be answered on one or more target documents that conform to the at least one target schema; and (iii) the one or more target documents conform to a target schema.

  • Patent number: 7912874
Abstract: The apparatus and system are provided for defining a metadata schema to facilitate passing data between an XML document and a hierarchical database. The invention includes a database accessor, a document accessor, and an association module. The database accessor accesses a database schema indicative of database field names and a hierarchical structure for a hierarchical database. The document accessor accesses a document schema that defines the hierarchical structure, content data syntax, and semantics of valid, well-formed, XML documents that can be passed into and out of the hierarchical database. The document schema also includes at least one XML element name that maps to a corresponding database field name in the database schema. The association module associates the database schema and the document schema to provide a metadata schema that enables data to be passed between an XML document and the hierarchical database.

  • Patent number: 7881981
Abstract: A data extraction tool is provided for cataloging information in an information source for searching by a user. The tool mines information from the information source and organizes the information, or the locations of that information, within a database. A user may then query the tool for a desired type of information. The tool filters the database to provide a set of pinpoint site locations with information of the type requested in the query. These pinpoint site locations are presented to a user and indexed for future reference. The index of site locations may be updated automatically by the tool. A context system is provided for manually or automatically determining the proper context for a user's query. Thus, the data extraction tool provides information with a high probability of relevance to the user. The user obtains the information without expending much effort to refine the search.

Abstract: Systems and computer products that efficiently determine how columns, tables, and queries associated with a database are related to each other. The present invention enables a user to see at a glance in which queries certain columns and tables are used. The present invention may be implemented with a query miner module that includes a query browser module that improves browsing through queries and their components over the past. The preferred embodiment of the present invention provides an easy to use graphical interface showing the queries, tables, and columns in a tree structure. Further, the preferred embodiment of the present invention presents information about relationships and dimensions associated with a database and about columns, tables, and queries to the user without discernable lag time between the user's request and the generated information.

The system includes means for receiving first component data for first plurality of components, including identification and usage history for a first plurality of components, at first database associated with first tool. The system also includes means for receiving second component data for second plurality of components at second database associated with second tool, which is different from first tool. The system further includes means for synchronizing first and second component data with third database. The synchronizing includes synchronizing between third database and at least one of first and second database rules that govern usage of at least one component of first and second plurality of components. The third database is coupled to exchange data with plurality of tools.

  • Patent number: 7848942
Abstract: A process modeling tool provides a process designer with the ability to design an integrated business process model that includes a series of tasks for achieving a desired result. The process modeling tool allows the process designer to associate sub-sets of the tasks with entities who will perform the task sub-sets, and to extract distributed process models that each include one of the task sub-sets from the integrated process model for distribution to, and execution, by, the various entities. The distributed process models execute independently and in synchronization with one another, and transfer control therebetween as necessary to achieve the result of the integrated process model. Accordingly, the process designer is allowed to use established techniques for the design, verification, and monitoring of the integrated process model, while the entities are allowed to use local process enactment engines for implementing their portion of the overall process.

  • Patent number: 7844792
Abstract: A software tool automatically places files and folders of a software program within segments of a DVD. The segments are defined by security placeholders, and the disposition of the placeholders is initially randomly determined, consistent with predefined rules. The placeholders are included on the disc to hinder unauthorized copying. A developer generally defines the order in which the files and folders are to be laid out, and the software tool automatically places the files and folders, filling successive segments and shifting the placeholders to accommodate files that will not fit in a current segment. However, any movement of the placeholders must be done by the tool and is only permitted if the new disposition of the placeholder is in accord with the predefined rules. A user can manually modify the automated layout, and in response, the files and folders are automatically shifted to accommodate the changes introduced by the user.

  • Patent number: 7844570
Abstract: The subject invention pertains to systems and methods that facilitate generation of a database to support a multidimensional model. A database schema is generated in a top-down fashion. In particular, multidimensional structures and attributes such as cubes and dimensions can be defined. From such definition, a proposed database schema can be produced. This schema can subsequently be modified prior to or after populating the database. For example, a table or column could be added. Thereafter, the cubes and dimensions could be altered and a modified schema generated that preserves changes made to the schema. Accordingly, the subject systems and methods disclose an iterative approach that supports both top-down and bottom-up multidimensional database design.
