  • Publication number: 20140114916
Abstract: Embodiments are provided for delivering aggregated data from disparate systems (e.g. CRM, databases, etc.), making the data available to another system or end user with the functionality to read, create, update, and/or delete the source data. The disclosed subject matter provides a way to deliver bi-directional aggregated information from independent and potentially disparate systems as if the information came from a single system without the need for any interim data store. Additionally, the disclosed subject matter creates the instructions necessary for making the aggregated data available to other systems and end users in various modes of interaction (e.g. ADO.Net, SharePoint®, web services, etc.). Further, an end user awareness is employed that carries source-specific authorization checks before any data access or updates. The disclosed subject matter therefore can access aggregated data from multiple sources and propagate changes made back to the original source systems.

  • Patent number: 8700698
Abstract: A state affinitized system comprises worker computing devices uniquely affinitized with one or more states such that only those worker computing devices maintain local copies of the states with which they are affinitized. Requests and data relevant to a state are directed to the worker computing device affinitized with that state, such as by front-end computing devices. A centralized persistent storage can maintain a copy of each state and can modify the states in response to newly received information in the same manner as the worker computing devices. Such maintenance can be performed by coalescer computing devices, which can also derive second order data from the states in the centralized persistent storage, which can be further added to the state and also communicated to the worker computing device affinitized with that state. Crawler computing devices can obtain additional information for incorporation into states from network-based information repositories and services.

  • Patent number: 8694985
Abstract: Methods, apparatuses, and systems for managing digital content in hierarchies are described. A first version of a digital image is received from an external device which tracks changes to the first version. It is determined that a second version of the digital image, changes to which have been tracked, exists. Based on comparing the tracked changes of both versions, the versions are combined. The first version is created by splitting the second version, which is stored in a master hierarchy, and transmitting the split version to the external device. During splitting, a child hierarchy of information is split from the master hierarchy, the child hierarchy including portions of the master hierarchy to access the second version such that the second version can be accessed independent of the master hierarchy. Changes to the versions are tracked in change tables, for example, using values that are mashed into a single record.

Abstract: Various techniques for improving the performance of restoring deduplicated data files from a server to a client within a storage management system are disclosed. In one embodiment, a chunk index is maintained on the client that tracks the chunks remaining on the client for each data file that is stored to and restored from the storage server. When a specific file is selected for restore from the storage server to the client, the client determines if any local copies of this specific file's chunks are stored in files already existing on the client data store. The file is then reconstructed from a combination of these local copies of the file chunks and chunks retrieved from the storage server. Therefore, only chunks that are not stored or are inaccessible to the client are retrieved from the server, reducing server-side processing requirements and the bandwidth required for data restore operations.

Abstract: In an automated financial instrument brokerage system, during a first interval, data relating to option trades is stored in an old customer account database and data relating to equity trades is stored in a new customer account database. Also, customer account data is retrieved from both the old and new databases in response to activity requests. During a second interval, data relating to option trades and equity trades is stored in the new database and customer account data is retrieved from both the old and new databases in response to activity requests. After the second interval expires, the content of the old database is copied into the new database, data relating to option trades and equity trades is stored in the new database, and customer account data is retrieved from the new database in response to activity requests. The first and second intervals define a settlement period for equity trades.

  • Patent number: 8055613
Abstract: A method and apparatus for efficiently logging changes to a file system are disclosed. A file system filter driver intercepts I/O requests directed to a file system, and analyzes the I/O requests to determine whether the requests are write or modify requests directed to a file included in a list of files to be monitored for changes. If the I/O request is directed to such a file, the file system filter driver logs the I/O request to a b-tree structured change log file. Furthermore, in one embodiment, the file system filter driver is configured to log file system changes to multiple log files to coincide with snapshot operations, such that the file system changes to be included in each snapshot are included in separate log files.

  • Patent number: 8055615
Abstract: Methods and apparatus are described for a horizontally scalable high performance object storage architecture. Metadata are completely decoupled from object storage. Instead of file names, users are given a locator when the object is uploaded and committed. Users can store the locator along with their own metadata or embed it directly in the static content. Clients can choose which storage nodes to store data on based on dynamic measures of node performance. Since there is no coupling among storage servers, performance can scale horizontally by adding more nodes. The decoupling also allows the front end services and storage to scale independently. High service availability is achieved by object-level synchronous replication and having no single point of failure. Failed nodes are rebuilt using copies of data in other nodes without taking the cluster offline. In addition to the replication, the ability to add or remove nodes on-line reduces maintenance-related service downtime.

  • Patent number: 8001077
Abstract: Multiple computer devices are networked, and each computer device stores a bookmark database. A user can add delete or change bookmarks on any of the computer devices. Alterations made to a bookmark database are stored locally. Every alteration is time stamped. If a bookmark is deleted, it is marked as deleted, but not erased from the local bookmark database. Bookmark databases stored on other computer devices are unaffected by changes made to the bookmark database stored on the local device. In order to update and synchronize all the bookmark databases, the local device receives the data from all the other bookmark databases. Then, the time stamps for each bookmark are compared, and the bookmarks with the most recent time stamps are assembled in a new master bookmark database. The new master bookmark database is then sent to all participating devices in the network.

Abstract: Techniques for coordinating updates to replicated data are disclosed. For example, in a system comprised of a plurality of nodes, a method for maintaining consistent copies of data across the nodes comprises the following steps. A copy of an object o1 is maintained by a plurality of nodes. In response to a request r1 to update a copy of object o1, a message is sent to at least some of the plurality of nodes instructing a node receiving the message to invalidate its copy of object o1. In response to a node n1 receiving an invalidation message arising from r1 wherein n1 is processing another request r2 to update object o1, requests r1 and r2 are coordinated to prevent the requests from causing conflicting updates or invalidations.
