Abstract: Methods and apparatuses for backing up data to a database are provided. A specified data set to be backed up is broken down into a plurality of data blocks, each data block is associated with a data block digest, and the data blocks and associated data block digests are stored in the database. When one or more data blocks are subsequently changed, an update to the backup may be performed by adding to the backup data only the data blocks that have changed since the initial backup. Methods and apparatuses for restoring backup data from a database are also provided. Timestamp information associated with the data blocks in the database is used to select the data blocks to be restored.

Abstract: An information processing apparatus includes, a first storage unit, a second storage unit in which data stored in the first storage unit is backed up, and a memory controller that controls data backup operation. The memory controller divides a transfer source storage area into portions, and provides two transfer destination areas, each of the two transfer destination areas being divided into portions, backs up data in a direction from a beginning address of each divided area of the transfer source storage area to an end address thereof in one of the transfer destination areas provided for each divided area of the transfer source storage area, and backs up data in a direction from the end address of each divided area of the transfer source storage area to the beginning address thereof in the other transfer destination storage area.
Abstract: Techniques and environments that increase the convenience, efficiency and variety of cloud services are offered to clients. User data having an original representational format is losslessly transformed to form one or more alternate renditions having various representational formats based on the lossless transforms. The renditions, which may be pre-generated, can be stored on a network server instead of the identical user data to thereby reduce redundant computation and storage costs. In some cases both the renditions and the original use data may be stored. The original user data may be reconstructed, recreated, or restored using the alternate renditions.
Abstract: In one embodiment, a method comprises receiving, in a source controller, a signal indicative of a write request to a source volume managed by the source controller in response to the signal: writing data associated with the write request to a destination controller when a connection to the destination controller is available; and setting a synchronization flag associated with the data storage segment managed by the source controller when a connection to the destination controller is unavailable.

Abstract: A method to archive log entries created by a data storage system comprising a first memory and a library log encoded in that first memory, wherein the first memory comprises a storage capacity, and wherein the method writes a plurality of log entries to the library log, wherein each log entry comprises a log entry time. At a time T0, the method copies to a log archive the plurality of log entries written to the library log, and sets a subsequent retrieval time based upon a time T1 when an earliest log entry was written to the library log, and a time T2 when a latest log entry was written to the library log.

Abstract: Systems and methods for data classification to facilitate and improve data management within an enterprise are described. The disclosed systems and methods evaluate and define data management operations based on data characteristics rather than data location, among other things. Also provided are methods for generating a data structure of metadata that describes system data and storage operations. This data structure may be consulted to determine changes in system data rather than scanning the data files themselves.

Abstract: Backup system for backing up basic data elements accessible via a network, the backup system comprising a controller, a communication interface, a backup storage unit, for storing backup versions of the basic data elements and a comparator, for comparing between a list of basic data elements from a storage area of the network and a respective list of backed up basic data elements, thereby detecting new basic data elements listed in the list of basic data elements and absent from the respective list of backed up basic data elements, modified basic data elements listed in the list of data elements differently than in the respective list of backed up basic data elements and deleted basic data elements absent from the list of basic data elements and listed in the respective list of backed up basic data elements, wherein the controller backs up the storage area of the network by copying the entirety of the new basic data elements and the modified basic data elements into the backup storage unit, and wherein the co
Abstract: A system, method, and computer program product are provided for allowing access to backup data resulting from performance of one or more recovery point backup operations and one or more full backup operations. This is accomplished by associating recovery point backup operations with full backup operations and allowing access to backup data resulting from performance of the recovery point backup operations and the full backup operations. In this way, logs corresponding to the backup operations may be associated with a backup path, such that the logs may be accessed during a restore operation. Furthermore, the recovery point operations may be configured to provide a user defined granularity for data recovery. To this end, in various embodiments, backup data may be stored at a granularity defined by a user and recovered based on a user selection of a recovery point.

Abstract: A serverless backup system for backing up information on a network including one or more servers, includes a backup storage system for backing up information and a storage system for storing information to be backed up and restored, wherein information being backed up is transferred directly from the storage system to the backup storage system without going through a server and information being restored is transferred directly from the backup storage system to the storage system without going through the server.
Abstract: A system and a method for managing log information. The system includes an input module that receives log information on a data renewal and a control module that stores a renewed data image based on the received log information when a page area where the renewed data exists is a hotspot, wherein the control module manages a hotspot control list (HSCL) including hotspot managing information and address information on a storage area in which the renewed data image is stored.
