  • Patent number: 8782028
Abstract: A method and apparatus for proxying search requests for a storage system and maintaining a central index for performing the search requests is described herein. An index manager on the storage system may initially produce the central index by examining each file in a file system and update the central index thereafter by examining only those files that have changed since the central index was initially produced or last updated. The index manager may receive a changed file list from a differencing layer configured for comparing snapshots of the file system at different time points to produce changed file lists. A search proxy module may receive search requests in a search protocol and proxy the search requests to a search engine by converting the search requests to another search protocol compatible with the search engine. The search engine may then use the central index for performing the search request.

  • Patent number: 8775400
Abstract: Within a social network, users may submit various types of messages, such as personal messages to other users and status messages to be shared with all associated users. While these messages often relate to highly personal information such as opinions and personal emotions, such messages may also comprise one or more facts about a particular topic, such as a report of a weather condition in a particular location at a particular time. These facts may be identified in various messages, and may be stored in a fact store, such that when a user submits a query specifying a topic may receive from the fact store one or more facts that are responsive to the topic of the query. Additionally, user interfaces may be devised and provided to users submitting such messages, e.g., in order to reduce ambiguity and improve the reliable extraction of facts from messages.

  • Patent number: 8768952
Abstract: Embodiments of the present invention include systems with Readers and Tags in which a Reader queries the Tags with a parameter that includes a level of probability of reply according to which the Tags individually and randomly decide whether or not to reply. In one embodiment, the Tags can switch between two states: A and B. The query command also specifies a state (A or B) so that only the Tags in the specified state can reply. After successfully sending the Tag identification data from a Tag to the Reader, the Tag switches to the other state from the specified state. In one embodiment, the operations about the two states are symmetric. In one embodiment, the Tags can remember the parameters used in a query so that a short form of query command can be used to repeat the query with the same query parameters.

  • Patent number: 8768909
Abstract: The present invention includes systems and methods for retrieving information via a flexible and consistent targeted search model that employs interactive multi-prefix, multi-tier and dynamic menu information retrieval techniques (including predictive text techniques to facilitate the generation of targeted ads) that provide context-specific functionality tailored to particular information channels, as well as to records within or across such channels, and other known state information. Users are presented with a consistent search interface among multiple tiers across and within a large domain of information sources, and need not learn different or special search syntax. A thin-client server-controlled architecture enables users of resource-constrained mobile communications devices to locate targeted information more quickly by entering fewer keystrokes and performing fewer query iterations and web page refreshes, which in turn reduces required network bandwidth.

Abstract: The performance of the analysis system is deteriorated because file content extraction processing is performed in the file aggregation server and in the analysis server and further because annotation data creation is performed in the file aggregation server. Therefore, the present invention solves the problem by providing a file aggregation server classifying files into analysis target contents, non analysis target contents, and content matched data, and providing only the analysis target contents to the analysis server. Since this method enables the analysis server to acquire the analysis target contents directly from the file aggregation server, the processing of extracting contents from the files becomes unnecessary, and the throughput of the entire analysis system is improved.

Abstract: The present invention involves a computer implemented system and method which assists querying against a data space using visualization. The method uses a computer to visualize a query of the data space by an initial search parameter. A first set of objects resulting from the initial search parameter is displayed, and the first set of objects on the display is graphically manipulated. A second set of objects is then created from a new query based on the initial search parameter and the graphic manipulation of the first set of objects. The user may link various objects, and assign a quantitative or qualitative value with each link. Information spaces may be created based on such manipulations and/or links, and portions of the information spaces may be extracted and/or inserted into or out of external information spaces.

  • Patent number: 8682883
Abstract: Embodiments of the present invention relate to systems and methods for determining sets of products which are similar to each other in terms of consumers' wants and needs. Queries are performed on a particular product. Documents relating to the query are received and stored. A dictionary is created from the received documents, whereby the documents, which are text files, are scrubbed of certain data to create a scrubbed text file. Topic modeling is then performed on the cleansed text file. Various methods can be used to perform topic modeling, including, but not limited to, latent semantic analysis, nonnegative matrix factorization, and singular value decomposition.

Abstract: An account system obtains a first translation file associated with it. The account system obtains a second translation file from a second account system, wherein the second account system is a data processing system. The account system determines whether a third account system has a third translation file with untranslated terms. The account system obtains the third translation file from the third account system, responding to a determination that the third account system has the third translation file with untranslated terms. The account system, responding to a determination that the third account system has the third translation file with untranslated terms, forms a comprehensive file from at least two files selected from the group consisting of the first translation file, second and/or third translation files. The account system translates the comprehensive file to form a translated file.

  • Patent number: 8671090
Abstract: A method of utilizing a Web Service folder interface. A user defines a folder in a local folder directory as a Web Services enabled folder. The folder includes file data and metadata corresponding to the file data. The metadata includes a configurable Web Services type property that corresponds to a remote Web Service. The metadata also includes a configurable data handling property that includes one or more allowable file formats. When a user submits the file data to the remote Web Service by selecting an option in a pull down menu of a graphical user interface (GUI) or dropping the file data in a local output folder, the operating system (OS) sends the file data to the remote Web Service. The OS automatically converts an output file received from the remote Web Service into one of the allowable file formats and updates the local file data with the output file.
