Abstract: A ranking component refines an initial document ranking in which the initial ranking is based on a scoring criterion. The ranking component generates or receive a set of documents that are related to a document. The set of documents may be related in a number of ways, such as similarity in authorship or publisher. The ranking component then applies the scoring criterion to the set of related documents to generate a related set score. The related set score is used to refine the initial rankings.

Abstract: A system and method for generating a keyword ranking report. A processor is effective to receive a set of keywords and URLs. The processor may send the keywords to a search engine and receive first and second ranked result sets. The processor may filter the first and second ranked result sets based on the URLs to produce filtered result sets. The processor may generate a report based on the keywords and the filtered result sets.

Abstract: A method of optimizing digital content for searches performed on mobile devices. The method may include receiving digital content that includes one or more pages and analyzing the digital content to determine one or more properties of the digital content that relate to placement of a reference to the digital content in mobile search results. The method may also include analyzing the properties of the digital content to determine one or more optimizations to apply to the digital content to improve the placement of the reference to the digital content in the mobile search results. In addition, the method may include generating one or more recommendations for adapting the digital content based on the optimizations.

According to one embodiment, a method may include detecting a request to access a given online content source, where the request includes referral information specifying one or more search keywords associated with the given online content source, where the given online content source is one of a plurality of online content sources included within an interest space, and where the interest space is identified dependent upon indications of user navigation activity among the plurality of online content sources. The method may further include extracting the one or more search keywords from the request and creating an association of the one or more search keywords with the interest space.

Abstract: Methods, systems and apparatus, including computer program products are described for ranking content items identified by a search engine and delivering corresponding search results. In one aspect, search engine user language preference data is stored in association with user content item selection records. Analysis of the records is performed to identify content items that appeal to users having common language preferences. Query results can be ranked based on the language preference of the current user and/or the user's query and data derived from the selection records.

Abstract: A way to promote a web site is via search engine optimization (SEO). Traditionally, SEO practitioners have charged a fixed fee for performing SEO services. An analyzer can determine a first probability that a search query for a campaign term will result in a referral from a search engine, determine second probabilities that are associated with a plurality of particular positions in a search engine results page, combine the search query volume information, the first probability, and the second probability for the position with a monetary value to generate an organic price, combine the organic prices for the plurality of positions to value the SEO services for the campaign term. The analyzer evaluates the effectiveness of SEO activities and can generate a volume-based value for SEO services. In addition, disclosed techniques can also be used to identify candidate terms for future SEO activities.

Abstract: A method for static ranking of web documents is disclosed. Search engines are typically configured such that search results having a higher PageRank® score are listed first. A modified scoring technique is provided whereby the score includes a reset vector that is biased toward web pages linked to blogs. This requires identifying web pages as either blogs or non-blogs.

Abstract: A system and method for intent driven search presentation. A query is received, over a network, from a user, wherein the query comprises at least one query token. The query is analyzed wherein at least one query keyword is identified in the query. The query is classified wherein the query is classified into at least one intent using query keywords. A plurality of data objects that match query keywords is identified. The data objects are ranked, wherein at least one intent is assigned to at least some of the data objects. Abstract: Disclosed is an author-centric search that facilitates identifying a source commonly associated with a topic by, for example, providing a ranked listing of experts in a field of knowledge related to a search phrase. The search phrase can be captured and parsed into the individual words (e.g., substrings) of the search phrase. Based on occurrences of the words in one or more documented communications, statistics can be generated to determine the relevancy of each documented communication in relation to the search phrase. Further, additional statistics can be generated describing the occurrence of multiple words in a documented communication and/or a distance of words between the search phrase words in a documented communication. The statistics can be utilized to generate expert scores. The expert scores can be sorted for and/or displayed to the user.

Abstract: A program may be used to increase traffic flow to a Web site by analyzing, optimizing and submitting the Web site to one or more search engines. The program may accept search phrases and check the compatibility of the Web site with the search phrases as well as check the textual content, the parseability and the spiderability of the Web site. In a preferred embodiment, the analysis mimics the ranking methodologies used by the search engines. The program assists the owner of the Web site in optimizing the Web site for the search engines, possibly by automatically editing the code of the Web site, and submits the Web site for registration with the selected search engines. The program may be repeated from time to time to insure the Web site remains in an optimized state.

Abstract: Methods and systems for identifying and presenting information are described. Search results are received from a search engine. An entity associated with a networked site is selected using a selection criterion. A determination is made as to whether the listing includes a link to the networked site or includes the link to the networked site at a list position that fails to satisfy a first criterion. After determining that the link to the site associated with the entity is not included in the search result listing, or that the link to the site associated with the entity is not at a position in the search result listing that satisfies the first criterion, the search listing is modified by causing the link to the site associated with the entity to appear in a first position in the search listing. The modified search listing is displayed on a user terminal.

Abstract: A computer-implemented method and system for managing keyword bidding prices are disclosed. An example system embodiment includes an automatic keyword bidding module, operably coupled with a processor and a memory, operable to determine a revenue per click value associated with a keyword, obtain bidding information associated with the keyword, obtain automatic bid controls associated with the keyword, and automatically generate a bid value for the keyword based on the revenue per click value, the bidding information, and the automatic bid controls.

Abstract: An anti-spam technique for protecting search engine ranking is based on mining search engine optimization (SEO) forums. The anti-spam technique collects webpages such as SEO forum posts from a list of suspect spam websites, and extracts suspicious link exchange URLs and corresponding link formation from the collected webpages. A search engine ranking penalty is then applied to the suspicious link exchange URLs. The penalty is at least partially determined by the link information associated with the respective suspicious link exchange URL. To detect more suspicious link exchange URLs, the technique may propagate one or more levels from a seed set of suspicious link exchange URLs generated by mining SEO forums.

Abstract: A system for maintaining master reference data for entities is disclosed. The system includes multiple reference data sets at multiple different data storages. A reference data set for a particular entity uniquely identifies the particular entity. The system also includes a first master reference data set at a first data storage that is at least as reliable as a second reference data set at a second data storage. In some embodiments, the first data storage can be updated through real-time process or an offline process (e.g., a batch process). The first master reference data set includes at least one data record, and content metadata regarding the data record. In some embodiments, content metadata comprises lineage data that includes each preceding value that was contained in the data record. In some of these embodiments, lineage includes other factors that affected the present and previous values contained in the data record.

Abstract: A method of preserving individual information privacy for each of a plurality of customers while providing aggregated information about the plurality of customers includes storing static customer data and dynamic customer data of the plurality of customers in a protected database. The method includes restricting shared access to the static customer data and the dynamic customer data to a set of approved privacy-preserving queries. The privacy preserving queries include a privacy-preserving aggregation query that uses one or more parameters to indicate a characteristic of interest for which aggregation of the static customer data and the dynamic customer data is requested. The privacy-preserving aggregation query may be configured to retrieve aggregated customer data related to the characteristic of interest.

Abstract: Methods, systems, and apparatus, including computer program products are provided for indexing tags in source code. Implementations provide an enhanced retrieval of source code, in which a score for each of a plurality of files is derived based on a quantity of references to each file in source code of the remaining plurality of files. A query is received identifying a source code tag. Matching files of the plurality of files that satisfy the query are identified, a ranking of the matching files is generated based on the derived scores, and the ranking is provided.

The system comprises a memory for storing a search information database; a bid control module selecting a predetermined number of search listings primarily according to the bid amount and an estimated advertising period; a ranking module generating an ordered search result list; and a computation control module computing the advertising period for the received bids. The ranking module orders the selected search listings in the search result list according to the selected search listings' respective bid amounts and the estimated advertising period and the computation control module estimating advertising costs uses the bid amount of the advertiser and average number of clicks information during a predetermined previous period. The system also includes a context modeler for modeling a context representation and a server for storing a situation in which the user has been involved as at least one frame. The at least one frame describes at least one object and action involved in the situation in which the user has been involved and their relationship to each other. A context using the at least one frame is modeled by the context modeler so that when the context representation is applied to the database, operation of the database is adapted according to the situation.

Abstract: Defeating click-through cloaking includes retrieving a search results page to set a browser variable, inserting a link to a page into the search results page and clicking through to the page using the inserted link. Investigating cloaking includes providing script associated with a suspected spam URL, modifying the script to de-obfuscate the script and executing the modified script to reveal cloaking logic associated with the script.

Abstract: Embodiments of the present invention provide for methods, systems and computer program products for learning ranking functions to determine the ranking of one or more content items that are responsive to a query. The present invention includes generating one or more training sets comprising one or more content item-query pairs and determining one or more contradicting pairs in a given training sets. An optimization function to minimize the number of contradicting pairs in the training set is formulated, and modified by incorporating a grade difference between one or more content items corresponding to the query in the training set and applied to each query in the training set. A ranking function is determined based on the application of regression trees on the queries of the training set minimized by the optimization function and stored for application to content item-query pairs not contained in the one or more training sets.

In one embodiment, a Web search service is provided for returning quality query results. The vulnerability of existing ranking algorithms, such as PageRank, to Web pages that are artificially generated for the sole purpose of inflating the score of target page(s) is addressed. Intuitively, it is recognized that it is less likely to reach a particular page on a Web server having many pages via a random jump than it is to reach a particular page on a Web server having few pages, which implies that the influence of such a page upon another page by linking to, or endorsing, the other page is diminished. Thus, in various non-limiting embodiments, each Web server, not each Web page, is assigned a guaranteed minimum score. This minimum score assigned to a server can then be divided among all the pages on that Web server.
