The method further includes populating a citation entry of a citation-pairing metadata file with a citing-document identifier, a reason-for-citing identifier, a cited-document identifier, and a cited-text-area identifier. The citation-pairing metadata file includes a plurality of citation entries and is stored separately from the citing document and the cited document.

Abstract: A system for providing an information assistance service includes a communication interface for receiving a request for information. A search facility conducts a search using a first search criterion in response to the request, a second search criterion being provided in lieu of the first search criterion in conducting the search based on a correlation between the first search criterion and the second search criterion. The correlation is a function of the number of searches prior to the search where use of the first search criterion is followed by use of the second search criterion. The use of the second search criterion, but not the first search criterion, produces the desired results.

Abstract: A method for pushing information proactively includes: receiving updated data; querying search records that match the updated data; determining search records that meet a push condition, and obtaining user information corresponding to the search records that meet the push condition; pushing, according to the user information, the updated data to all or part of users corresponding to the user information. In the embodiments of the present invention, after receiving updated data, the server proactively obtains the search records of users, screens the users according to the push condition, and pushes the updated data to the screened users. In this way, the information is proactively pushed, which shortens the time interval of providing information for the users, and improves the efficiency of obtaining needed information by the users.

Abstract: The described implementations relate to patient identification. One implementation can acquire binary biometric data and structured data from a patient. This implementation can compare the acquired patient binary biometric data and structured data to binary biometric data and structured data associated with patient files in an electronic master patient index.

Abstract: There is provided a method that includes (a) receiving an inquiry to initiate a search for data for a specific individual, (b) determining, based on the inquiry, a strategy and flexible predictiveness equations to search a reference database, (c) searching the reference database, in accordance with the strategy, for a match to the inquiry; and (d) outputting the match. The method may also output flexible feedback related to the match that reflects inferred quality of the match experience which can be used by an end-user to determine the degree to which the matched entity meets that end-user's quality-based criteria. There is also provided a system that performs the method, and a storage medium that contains instructions that control a processor to perform the method.

Abstract: An entity (a device, a user of a device or set of devices, a user of one or more applications on a device, a group of users of the device or set of devices, or the like) is identified across multiple device, usage, and application domains. The entity is assigned a unique entity identity that is generated from a set of feature data that model the entity. The feature data typically includes deterministic data, device and system-specific feature data, and usage feature data. The identity is generated by applying to the feature data one or more rules that identify which of the feature data to use to generate the entity identity. The rules include at least one deterministic rule, and at least one probabilistic rule. Periodically, an identity is merged into one or more entity identities that are found, by applying a rule, to represent a same entity.

Abstract: A computer-implemented method of providing contextual search on digital images includes tracking a plurality of movements of a user over one or more hot-spots on a digital image in response to the user viewing a web page. The computer-implemented method also includes receiving a selected hot-spot from the user. Further, the computer-implemented method includes displaying a pop-up on the selected hot-spot. The pop-up includes a search query and search results on the hot-spot. Moreover, the computer-implemented method includes providing relevant context to the user corresponding to the search query.

Abstract: Disclosed herein is an apparatus and method for managing images based on user preferences. The apparatus includes a database for storing images, an image search module for searching the images stored in the database, an image output module for outputting at least one image retrieved by the image search module, a preference input module for, when the retrieved image is output through the image output module, receiving a user preference for the output image from a user, and an image path database for storing a storage path of the image, output through the image output module, based on the user preference received through the user preference input module. The image search module searches images whose storage paths are stored in the image path database or images whose storage paths are not stored in the image path database according to the user's selection.

Abstract: A query pattern handler may be configured to determine at least one query pattern to be matched against a stream of events, and may be configured to determine a plurality of run-time patterns representing active instances of the at least one query pattern which are currently available for matching, and which each include a plurality of states. An event scheduler may be configured to receive an event of the stream of events, the event associated with a current event set of the stream of events. A run-time pattern scheduler may be configured to determine a ranked set of the run-time patterns based on a priority metric which characterizes, for each run-time pattern, an advancement of each run-time pattern from a current state thereof when matched against the current event set. A pattern match evaluator may be configured to evaluate each run-time pattern of the ranked set, in turn, against the current event set.

Abstract: In one example, a phrase analyzer may analyze a text input stream to identify phrases contained in the text input stream. The phrase analyzer may receive a specification, which includes dictionaries of phrases and synonyms, and a specification of the phrases, or sequences of phrases to be matched. The phrase analyzer may compare the input stream to the specification and may produce, as output, an identification of which phrases appear in the input stream, and where in the input stream those phrases occur.

Abstract: A split data word including a portion of each of two word-aligned data words stored at two word-aligned address boundaries within a memory is read from a displaced-read memory address relative to the word-aligned address boundaries within the memory. The portions of each of the two word-aligned data words within the split data word are compared with corresponding portions of a word-aligned search pattern. A determination is made that a potential complete match for the word-aligned search pattern exists within at least one of the two word-aligned data words based upon an identified match of at least one of the portions of the two word-aligned data words within the split data word with a corresponding at least one portion of the word-aligned search pattern.

Abstract: A computer implemented method, system, and/or computer program product defines a paradigmatic member of a first task directed community. Non-linear attributes of each member of the first task directed community having a first agenda are identified. Each of the non-linear attributes is individually unrelated to the first agenda. Common non-linear attributes shared by multiple members of the first task directed community are identified for use in defining the paradigmatic member of the first task directed community. A second task directed community, which has an agenda that substantially matches the first agenda of the first task directed community, is then presented with candidate members that match the paradigmatic member of the first task directed community.

Abstract: An apparatus for detecting presence of a selected complex string in a data stream has a primary processor, detecting coherent strings of the selected complex string; and a secondary processor, pipelined to the primary processor, and detecting ambiguous strings interleaving said coherent strings. The primary processor is configured to determine a number of coherent strings in the selected complex string, each coherent string preceded by a prefix of indefinite characters, with a last coherent string succeeded by a suffix of indefinite characters; and to locate sequential portions of the data stream that are identical to successive coherent strings of the selected complex string. The secondary processor is configured to ascertain congruence of portions of the data stream preceding and interleaving the sequential portions to prefixes of the coherent strings; and to ascertain congruence of the suffix to a corresponding portion of said data stream following the sequential portions.

Abstract: Content items may be segmented and labeled by topic to provide for the capture, analysis, indexing, retrieval and/or distribution of information within information rich media, such as audio or video, with greater functionality, accuracy and speed. The segments and other related information may be stored in a database and made accessible to users through, for example, a search service and/or an on-demand service. Automatic segmentation may include receiving a text representation, calculating relevance intervals based on the text representation, determining a nodal representation based on the relevance intervals, and determining segments of the content item based on the nodal representation.

Abstract: A fuzzy joins system that is integrated in a database system generates fuzzy joins between records from two datasets. The fuzzy joins system includes a tokenizer to generate tokens for data records and a transformer to find transforms for the tokens. The fuzzy joins system invokes a signature generator, running within a runtime layer of the database system, to generate signatures for data records based on the tokens and their transforms. Subsequently, an equi-join operation joins the records from the two datasets with at least one equal signature. A similarity calculator, running within a runtime layer of the database system, computes a similarity measure using the token information of the joined records. If the similarity measure for any two records is above a threshold, the fuzzy joins system generates a fuzzy join between such two records.

Abstract: Systems and methods for presenting and/or browsing images on a digital content platform. In one embodiment, for example, there is provided an image-browsing system, including: (1) a database having a plurality of images; (2) an image frame provided on the digital content platform, wherein the image frame displays a first image from the database; and (3) a user-actionable interface, wherein activation of the interface replaces the first image within the frame with a second image. Various alternative aspects and embodiments are further described herein. For example, in certain instances, such systems and methods may be used to browse images on a digital content platform (e.g., a web page), conduct image searches directly from an image frame within a digital content platform, and/or provide contextually relevant advertising on the digital content platform.

Abstract: The present inventive subject matter relates to prior art analysis. Various embodiments of the present inventive subject matter include systems and methods for analyzing prior art in a patent portfolio and annuity management system. In an example embodiment, a method comprises maintaining a patent matter database and a database of prior art documents including data about the prior art documents such as the priority or publication dates of the documents. A keyword analysis is performed on a given patent matter and associated prior art documents to identify keywords occurring uniquely in the first patent matter as potential claim elements differentiating the patent matter over the disclosures contained in the one or more prior art documents.

Abstract: A system and method may compare an image vector representing an image feature of a first image fragment of an image to database vectors representing the image feature of database image fragments of database images. It may be determined based on the comparison a first matching database vector of the database vectors which most closely, among the database vectors, describes the first image feature represented by the image vector. The system or method may determine, using a data structure in conjunction with the first matching database vector and previously matched database vectors, a second of the database vectors which includes the first matching database vector and the previously matched database vectors and most closely describes a second image fragment including the first image fragment. The system or method may determine an object feature based on the second database vector.

Abstract: In particular embodiments, a method includes receiving a query for data in data sets that are within a specified range, constructing a first binary decision diagram (BDD) representing the specified range, and constructing a third BDD representing the data in the specified range by performing an AND operation between the first BDD and a second BDD representing the data sets.

Abstract: A scale-Space feature extraction technique is based on recursive decomposition of polyhedral surfaces into surface patches. The experimental results show that this technique can be used to perform matching based on local model structure. Scale-space techniques can be parameterized to generate decompositions that correspond to manufacturing, assembly or surface features relevant to mechanical design. One application of these techniques is to support matching and content-based retrieval of solid models. Scale-space technique can extract features that are invariant with respect to the global structure of the model as well as small perturbations that 3D laser scanning may introduce. A new distance function defined on triangles instead of points is introduced. This technique offers a new way to control the feature decomposition process, which results in extraction of features that are more meaningful from an engineering viewpoint. The technique is computationally practical for use in indexing large models.

Abstract: A method and apparatus for electronically matching an electronic offer to structured data for a product offering is disclosed. The structure data is reviewed and a dictionary of terms for each attribute from the structure data is created. Attributes in unstructured text may be determined. Each pair of the attributes (name and value) from the unstructured data and the structured data are obtained, the attribute pairs of the structured data and the unstructured data and compared and a similarity level is calculated for the matching the attribute pairs. The structured data pair that has the highest similarity score to the unstructured data pair is selected and returned.

Abstract: In an exemplary method, a request for content initiated by a user associated with a user profile is received, a plurality of content instances is identified as being related to the requested content based on a predefined relationship heuristic, wherein the content instances are associated with other user profiles, a relevance between the user profile and each of the other user profiles is determined based on a predefined relevance heuristic, and the content instances are prioritized based on the determined relevance. In certain embodiments, data representative of the prioritized content instances is displayed in accordance with the prioritization.

Abstract: Implementing intelligent agent services includes generating an ontological domain for an individual based upon information elements that represent aspects of detectable behaviors of the individual at a point in time. The detectable behaviors occur within a physical and virtual geography and in relation to time. The services also include creating subdomains of contextually organized collections of the information elements and information elements collected from previously conducted detectable behaviors of the individual. The subdomains include orthogonally related data. The services further include determining a relevance of relationships among the information elements across the subdomains. Relationships determined to be relevant are identified as an interest of the individual. The services also include searching sources of information using the information elements having the relationships determined to be relevant and identifying a solution for satisfying the interest responsive to the searching.

Abstract: A method for selecting a subset of information to communicate to others from a set of information comprising a plurality of content items. In accordance with the method, the set of information is stored in a user retrievable format, a relative priority is assigned to each of the plurality of content items, and the subset of information is automatically generated by selecting a predetermined number of the plurality of content items from the set of information based on the relative priorities of each of the plurality of content items. The predetermined number is less than the number of said plurality of content items and the subset of information is a prioritized subset of the set of information. A system, and a computer readable medium carrying computer readable instructions for carrying out the method are also disclosed.

Abstract: In accordance with particular embodiments, a method includes receiving data from disparate data sources comprising data associated with different people. At least one of the data sources comprises data associated with at least one common person. The method also includes extracting at least one record from each of the disparate data sources. Each extracted record is associated with a corresponding person and comprises at least one feature associated with the corresponding person. The method additionally includes distributing the records to computers configured to identify matches between the records based on at least one matching feature associated with two or more records. The method further includes merging the at least one feature from each of the records of each corresponding match into merged records, each merged record corresponding to a different match. The method also includes generating at least one fused view associated with the at least one common person and comprising a merged record.

Abstract: Techniques are described herein for using intent to access a domain (i.e., domain intent) to provide more search results that correspond to the domain. For example, a rule may specify a maximum number of search results that are allowed to be provided from a domain (or a host that corresponds to the domain) in response to a search query. Each search query may include any number of ngrams. An ngram is a subsequence of elements in a sequence (e.g., a search query). An intent to access a domain may be determined based on one or more of the ngrams in a search query. A number of search results that correspond to a domain may be increased to be greater than the maximum number based on one or more of the ngrams that are included in the search query being associated with the intent to access the domain.

Abstract: Information source agent systems and methods for distributed content storage and management using content signatures that use file identicality properties are provided. A data management system is provided that includes a content engine for managing the storage of file content, a content signature generator that generates a unique content signature for a file processed by the content engine, a content signature comparator that compares content signatures and a content signature repository that stores content signatures. Information source agents are provided that include content signature generators and content signature comparators. Methods are provided for the efficient management of files using content signatures that take advantage of file identicality properties. Content signature application modules and registries exist within information source clients and centralized servers to support the content signature methods.

Abstract: A data processing system and method are provided to index, search and present information about defined, “fuzzy” concepts across language, chemical and product identity, composition, biological classification and legal reference. The database system and method permits the use of combinations of concepts, such as labeling, health claims and/or nutritional claims, across linguistic, scientific and legal usages. The user is able to search for concepts in a defined way across any language or means of reference. The definition of the concepts used in the database is accepted as a standard by the database system (user(s). Such standardization then permits one user to pass the results of a search to another user with common meaning, and permits value-added services, such as the capability to provide news services about changes in worldwide regulation of goods and services, i.e., changes in information applicable to the concepts of interest to specific users.

Abstract: A method and an apparatus for identifying synonym and utilizing such synonym to conduct search is disclosed. The disclosed method includes: obtaining arbitrary two words to be identified; determining whether a shortest edit distance between the two words less than or equal to an edit distance threshold; determining whether the two words to be identified exist in a preset knowledge database, and if an answer is yes then searching a smallest granularity type with highest weight value for each word in the knowledge database; and if the two word have the same smallest granularity type with highest weight value, then determining such two words are synonyms, or non-synonym otherwise. The disclosed techniques greatly improve accuracy of synonym identification and guarantee effect of synonym identification.

Abstract: Systems and methods of identifying media content, such as video content, that employ fingerprint matching at the level of video frames. The presently disclosed systems and methods of identifying media content can extract one or more fingerprints from a plurality of video frames included in query video content, and, for each of the plurality of video frames from the query video content, perform frame-level fingerprint matching of the extracted fingerprints against fingerprints extracted from video frames included in a plurality of reference video content. Using the results of such frame-level fingerprint matching, the presently disclosed systems and methods of identifying media content can identify the query content in relation to an overall sequence of video frames from at least one of the plurality of reference content, and/or in relation to respective video frames included in a sequence of video frames from the reference content.

Abstract: A work optimization module identifies a tag associated with a first task, where the first task is associated with a first user. The work optimization module compares the tag to a plurality of tags associated with a plurality of entries in a database, where each entry in the database corresponds to a task and comprises one or more tags describing the task. If the tag matches one of the plurality of tags, the work optimization module detects a duplication of the first task and a second task corresponding to one of the plurality of entries in the database, wherein the second task is associated with a second user.

Abstract: A method, apparatus, article of manufacture, and a memory structure for brokering information between a plurality of clients using identifiers defining a plurality of data constructs is disclosed. An exemplary method comprises accepting a new data construct from an authoring entity, assigning a globally unique identifier to the new data construct, storing the new data construct and the assigned globally unique identifier in a database, and brokering between the authoring entity and a second entity commercially distinct from the authoring entity to provide the second entity access to the new data construct by reference to the assigned globally unique identifier of the new data construct or to provide the authoring entity access to an at least one of a plurality of pre-existing data constructs for use with the new data construct by reference to a globally unique identifier of the existing data construct.

Abstract: Some embodiments may be directed to matching users, such as employees, with insurance records in an integrated database, wherein the integrated database includes a plurality of insurance records, each record being associated with a unique employee and having a plurality of fields. According to some embodiments, new employee information may be received and it may be determined that the new employee information does not qualify as a strong match with any insurance record in the integrated database. Moreover, it may be determined, based on a probabilistic pattern match of the new employee information with values in the fields of the integrated database, that the new employee information qualifies as a weak match with a particular insurance record in the integrated database.

Abstract: Calendar-based suggestion of travel options involves suggesting a travel option based on events stored in a calendar of a user. For example, a user in San Francisco may be scheduled for a business trip to New York, and the user's calendar may show a dinner reservation in San Francisco on Saturday, September 3 and business meeting in New York on Monday, September 5. A suggestion machine accesses calendar data of the user and travel data for several available travel options (e.g., flights from San Francisco to New York). Based on the accessed calendar data and travel data, the suggestion machine determines that one or more travel options (e.g., a flight on Sunday, September 4) are compatible with the dinner reservation and the business meeting on the user's calendar. The suggestion machine presents these compatible travel options to the user.

Abstract: A system and method for supporting targeted sharing and early curation of information is provided. A digital data item selection by a user within a personal information management client is identified. One or more documents in a shared information repository similar to the digital data item are recommended including selecting recommendation criteria. The recommendation criteria are applied to the digital data item and the one or more documents. The one or more documents satisfying the recommendation criteria are identified as the similar documents. The similar documents are displayed visually proximate to the digital data item in the personal information client. A selection of one of the similar documents is received and the selected similar document in the shared information repository is updated with the digital data item.

Abstract: A system, method, and computer readable medium for applying one or more information retrieval technologies is disclosed for resolving a query. In one embodiment, an exemplary system generates a response using a language analysis module configured to parse a query into elements. This system can also include a rules engine configured to compare a condition of a rule against the elements, where the rule is configured to perform an action to retrieve information. Further, a response generator coupled to said rules engine receives the rule and retrieves the information for presentation to a querier in a portion of a display that adjusts proportionately to the degree of importance of said information.

Abstract: Methods of counting the number of matching items (more generally finding objects) indirectly associated with each detail selector (more generally another object) available for selection in a database search system or generally useful in other applications are disclosed. In some embodiment the method uses a set of matching items and traverses to each indirectly associated detail selector via a traversal through each associated entity, and a traversal through each detail selector associated with that entity. The method is easily extendable to the case of multiple entity levels. In some embodiments the method first creates an association matrix directly associating items to selectors and allowing item determination or counting more simply.

Abstract: A fuzzy, or ambiguous, keyword searching process and systems for implementing the fuzzy keyword searching process are provided. In general, one or more keyword search terms are first identified for a search. Next, a user is enabled to adjust a logical fuzziness, or logical ambiguity, for each of the one or more keyword search terms. As used herein, logical fuzziness of a keyword search term refers to the extent to which associated keywords are considered for the search. In one embodiment, the user may also be enabled to view and adjust keyword associations for each of the keyword search terms. A search is then performed based on the one or more keyword search terms and the logical fuzziness of the one or more keyword search terms, and results of the search are presented to the user.

Abstract: An outgoing message monitor is provided. In an embodiment, outgoing messages are monitored to detect potential errors and alerts may be triggered. Using information about a message such as an email, a first classifier classifies the email into an expected class and a second classifier classifies the email into an actual class. On the basis of a comparison of the expected and actual classes an alert may be triggered. In an embodiment, the second classifier uses information derived from text content of the email which may optionally be pre-processed. The first classifier, for example, uses other information about the email such as its intended recipients, information about the presence of attachments, information about whether the email is part of a thread and other information.

Abstract: Described is a method of organizing travel between a plurality of travelers by allowing a first traveler to specify criteria and preferences for a trip, finding a plurality of destinations which match the criteria and preferences, then allowing the travelers to rank and vote for each destination. Once one traveler selects a trip based on the ranking, the traveler may invite the other travelers to join them on the trip.

Abstract: Systems and methods are disclosed that allow for indexing, processing, or both of information from physical media or electronic media, which may be received from a plurality of sources. In embodiments, a document file may be matched using pattern matching methods and may include comparisons with a comparison reference database to improve or accelerate the indexing process. In embodiments, information may be presented to a user as potential matches thereby improving manual indexing processes. In embodiments, one or more additional actions may occur as part of the processing, including without limitation, association additional data with a document file, making observations from the document file, notifying individuals, creating composite messages, and billing events. In an embodiment, data from a document file may be associated with a key word, key phrase, or word frequency value that enables adaptive learning so that unindexed data may be automatically indexed based on user interaction history.
