Abstract: Archival storage and retrieval of audio/video information is described. Audio and/or video information is digitized, compressed and stored in an intermediate archive format (IAF), which preserves the content at a high-enough quality for subsequent retrieval and conversion into various formats required at the time of use or distribution. A single capture operation is performed with ancillary metadata being added to facilitate subsequent searching, indexing and format conversion. Captured data content is catalogued and indexed at or subsequent to the creation of an IAF file that includes the archived information. The IAF includes a family of audio-video digital encoding formats based on public standards. The encoding format used in any particular application is determined at encoding time from information provided by the archive system user. At encoding, the particular encoding scheme is selected to optimize a tradeoff between storage constraints and end use quality requirements.

Abstract: A computer-implemented system and method for extracting Human Generated Lists from an electronic database is described. The system searches for objects of the same class within a context window to identify Human Generated Lists and stores them to an archive. The archive may be used to generate a relationship network. The system generates variable length data vectors to represent the relationships between the objects within each Human Generated List. This relationship network can then be queried to discover relationships between the objects in the Human Generated Lists and to provide related objects as recommendations.

Abstract: When the mode of an electronic camera is set at folder creation mode and a release button is pressed, a new folder is created in a recording area of a recording medium and an icon image of the newly created folder is created. The icon image is created based on image data photographed in response to the press of the release button. A list of folders created in the recording medium is displayed with folder icons on an image display device and an icon image is displayed on each folder icon. From the displayed list of folders, the user selects a folder for recording the image data.

Abstract: A medical image retrieval system includes an image database which stores medical images. An interpretation unit acquires a currently diagnosed image for use in performing interpretation of one of the medical images and provides the currently diagnosed image to a computer terminal. An image requesting unit issues an image request associated with the currently diagnosed image. An image retrieval unit retrieves a reference image from the image database in accordance with the image request and provides the reference image to the computer terminal in order to propose the reference image as references for diagnosis. An evaluation input unit prompts to input an evaluation indicating whether the reference image has been helpful for diagnosis based on the currently diagnosed image.

Abstract: Control information embedded in digital data is preserved by inputting digital data into a data processor, wherein the digital data includes real-time samples of recorded data and control information, the control information being organized in a format within the digital data, separating at least some of the control information from the recorded data, and storing the separated control information in a memory so that it is preserved.

Abstract: Allowing unhosted user content feeds to a public search engine, such as a web search engine, involves a user easily identifying a file as a file the user wants to share with others by, for example, storing the file in a particular directory folder on the user's device. Once identified, the file is scanned and a corresponding entry is inserted into a search index. The storage location on the user's device may be captured, and that information added to the search index for linking to the stored file. The file may be uploaded to a caching server, for serving either primarily from the caching server or secondarily from the caching server when the file is not available from the user's storage. An access policy, which indicates what portion of the public has permission to access the file, may be associated with the shared file.

Abstract: Generally speaking, systems, methods and media for automatically generating a role based access control model (RBAC) for an organizational environment with a role based access control system such as a hierarchical RBAC (HRBAC) system are disclosed. Embodiments may include a method for generating an RBAC model. Embodiments of the method may include accessing existing permissions granted to users of an organizational environment and analyzing the permissions to create permission characteristics. Embodiments of the method may also include performing cladistics analysis on the permission characteristics to determine role perspective relationships between individual users of the organizational environment. Embodiments of the method may also include generating an RBAC model based on the determined role perspective relationships between individual users of the organizational environment.

Abstract: There is provided an image log management apparatus. The apparatus includes a rule storage unit that stores a rule for determining whether or not a log image is recorded at a time when each processing operation is performed by one or more image-processing units according to a program in which a procedure for using the one or more image-processing units is described; an acceptance unit that accepts the program in which the procedure for using the one or more image-processing units is described; a program execution unit that executes the program accepted in the acceptance unit; and a log controller that, by reference to a rule applicable to each of the image-processing units used in the program, performs control as to whether or not a log image relating to execution of the program in the program execution unit is recorded.

Abstract: Credentials are migrated into a unified identity management system which maintains existing mappings by associating the migrated credentials with existing directory service object instances. The schema of the directory service may or may not be modified.

Abstract: An electronic device comprising a file listing function and a method thereof are provided. The electronic device includes a recording medium for storing a file of a specified format, and a control unit for creating a file path for accessing the file using a code in which a first figure section for constituting a folder name of a folder including the file and a second figure section for constituting a file name of the file are combined. Accordingly, the capacity of file listing is minimized to improve the performance of the electronic device.

Abstract: An information management apparatus which is capable of managing products owned by a user by making the products easily registered in a device on a network. A user ID is registered in correspondence with model information on an image-pickup device. The user ID is received from a user terminal. When it is determined that the uploading of the image is permitted, on the basis of the received user ID and the registered user ID, the image uploaded from the user terminal is stored. Model information on an image-pickup device used for photographing the image stored in the storing unit is acquired from attribute information of the image. When the model information corresponding to the acquired model information is not registered, the acquired model information is further registered in correspondence with the received user ID.

Abstract: A method for allowing an information seeker to utilize affiliate group searching involving human searchers who are members of particular information affiliate groups. Each affiliate group has an area of expertise in which they are particularly skilled. In at least one embodiment, the method includes accepting designation of an affiliate group for providing information searching and presenting search results produced by a member of the affiliate group to an information seeker.

Abstract: An information processing apparatus includes feature extraction means for extracting features of a designated image in plural images which are associated with each other, image determination means for determining whether the designated image is an image of the face of a certificate, a receipt, a ticket or a note on which a character string is written based on the extracted features, and metadata addition means for adding the first metadata which is character string data of the character string to another image in the plural images, when it is determined that the designated image is an image of the face of a certificate, a receipt, a ticket or a note on which a character string is written.

Abstract: A context-based concept fusion method detects a first concept in an image record. The method includes automatically determining at least one other concept in the image record which has a contextual relationship with the first concept and which is to be labeled by a user of the method; and labeling the at least one other concept by the user with a ground truth label to be used in the context-based concept fusion method to improve detection of the first concept in the image record.
