Abstract: Methods and systems for generating overlay data to supplement search results obtained as a result of an internet search for a query provided by a user. The method includes accessing a universal resource locator (URL) database having URLs that are processed. The URL database has information regarding the number of times a URL in the URL database has been bookmarked and any descriptive tags assigned to specific URLs in the URL database. Then, receiving the query provided by the user that generates search results, where each search result is associated with a URL. The method further includes, before displaying the search results, analyzing each URL of a plurality of the search results to identify if the URL is present in the accessed URL database, and applying overlay data to particular ones of the search results. The overlay data includes information regarding the number of times the URL has been bookmarked and includes particular descriptive tags from the URL database.

Abstract: The present invention relates to a method for monitoring a bookmarked web page and a system and a computer program implementing such a method. A method according to an embodiment of the invention includes a first phase, including steps for storing, in association with each other, user identification data and an active version of the web page. The method further includes at least one iteration of a second phase, including a step for sending from user's browser to a network server a request for change information about the bookmarked web page since the stored version was active. On response of the server, if the web page has changed, the user has the possibility to choose to keep the stored old version of the web page or to accept the current version of the web page. The network server may be a server associated with the web page, e.g., a web site server, or an ISP server.

Abstract: A method, system and computer-usable medium are disclosed for maintaining persistent links to information stored on a network. Information elements are tagged and their original network location is saved as a hyperlink. The tagged information elements are then acquired at the original network location by a search engine crawler, indexed by a search engine, and stored in an information location index. The tagged information elements are periodically submitted to the search engine to generate search results. Comparison operations are performed to determine the search results comprising the closest-matching information elements and their current network location. The network location stored in the hyperlink is replaced with the current network location if it is not the same.

Abstract: A system for social bookmarking of a resource provided through a Web application that doesn't follow the representational state transfer architectural style (REST). When processing a request for a social bookmarking operation, the system searches for a URL and potentially other resource information within the document object model of a currently loaded Web page. If such resource information is found, then it is used to process the requested social bookmarking operation. Otherwise, if such resource information is not found in the document object model, then the system uses the URL stored in the location bar of the Web browser to process the requested social bookmarking operation. The system includes semantic information in the DOM of a Web page that is used to identify subsets of content within the Web page that can be socially bookmarked. The semantic information of the disclosed system is stored in what are generally referred to as “microformatting”.

Abstract: A request is received that includes a primary keyword and a persistent keyword. In response to the request, a root page is found that includes a first term that matches the primary keyword. Descendant pages of the root page are searched for a second term that matches the persistent keyword. The search determines that the descendant pages are at levels on paths from the root page and that the levels are within a depth from the root page. A descendant page is found that is a descendant of the root page and that includes a second term that matches the persistent keyword. A root link that points at the root page and a descendant link that points at the descendant page are sent to the requester. If the number of times that the primary keyword was received is greater than a threshold number, then the primary keyword is added to the persistent keywords.
