Abstract: Provided is a system and method for the de-duplication and modification detection of documents collected during document production. The disclosed technology provides a simple, legally defensible, rapid and cost-efficient system for collecting responsive electronic document sets, identifying and eliminating unnecessary documents by comparing a collected document to previously collected documents and copying only information that has not been duplicated. The disclosed technology provides a method for copying the unduplicated information without transmitting or storing the duplicated portions. In addition, the claimed subject matter provides a system for detecting whether or not a document being submitted to a project archive is a modification of a previously submitted document. A document being submitted that represents a modification of a previously submitted document is prevented from being added to the project document archive.

Abstract: Apparatus and computer-readable media for associating metadata with a geographic location are provided. The apparatus includes logic for detecting that a mobile device is present at a geographic location relevant to a user of the mobile device, logic for retrieving context information associated with the location, logic for selecting a program code module based upon a contextual relevancy of the location, logic for providing the program code module for execution, where the program code module is capable of performing processing specific to at least one aspect of the location, the processing is based upon the context information, and the program code module is further capable of receiving at least one input data item from the mobile device, where the at least one input data item describes an activity of the user at the location, and logic for associating the at least one input data item with the location.

Abstract: A method and information processing system manage policy elements in an information processing system. At least one policy element (110) from a plurality of policy elements stored in at least one policy repository (108) is retrieved. The plurality of policy elements includes at least one of a plurality of reusable policy rules (110), a plurality of reusable policy rule components (118, 120, 122), a plurality of reusable policy rule templates, and a plurality of and policy rule component templates. A new reusable policy element is created from at least one of the policy element (110) that has been retrieved and a default policy element. The new reusable policy element is stored in the at least one policy repository (108). A reusable policy element is queried using metadata (224) associated with the reusable policy element.

Abstract: An apparatus and a method for a personalization engine for providing a user preference matching score for a media content item. Any of a plurality of media processing applications can submit a request including identification of the media content item and associated meta-data, and receive in response the user preference matching score. The requesting application can take actions responsive to the received user preference matching score. The user preference matching score is derived from information, collected by the personalization engine from a plurality of sources, including data pertaining to a plurality of pre-define fields that reflect the user's expressed preferences and the user's previous usage of other media content items. In deriving the user preference matching score, different weighting factors can be assigned to data in each of the pre-defined fields based on, for example, the source of the data and weighting factors specified by the requesting application.

Abstract: Automatic and assisted playlist generation is accomplished by collecting data from users of a world-wide music information system. Attributes of the recordings listened to by users are extracted from data collected when the users access the music information system. The attributes are correlated with other attributes in the system to verify data accuracy. Users can specify a set of attributes of their music collection for automatic generation of a playlist. The playlist can then be further edited, even on devices with a limited display and a few buttons designed for playback of recordings, by re-mapping the functions of the buttons for playlist generation.

Abstract: In one embodiment, a method of controlling data translation between communities can include: receiving data from a first community in a second community, where the data has a tag associated therewith; searching a metadata dictionary in the second community for an entry corresponding to the tag; translating the received data to provide translated data using a community definition from the entry corresponding to the tag; and outputting the translated data to the second community.

Abstract: Systems and methods are provided for retrieving metadata relating to a multi-function device. In some embodiments, metadata is retrieved using a plurality of identifiers (e.g., hardware identifiers each identifying at least one function performed by the device) received from the device. The plurality of identifiers are arranged into a sequence, and at least one of the identifiers in the sequence is associated with metadata specifying a characteristic of the device. Using the metadata that is retrieved, a client computer may present an graphical user interface displaying information relating to the device.

The system further links annotations included with captured media to provide analysis of collaboratively-annotated media and aid users in accessing and synthesizing large amounts of collaboratively-captured media.

Abstract: Roll back strategies for database deadlock resolution are customized by identifying a first transaction to a database, identifying a second transaction to the database and detecting a deadlock between the first and second transactions with respect to the database. The deadlock is resolved based upon a predetermined roll back strategy associated with at least one of the first or second transactions to identify a select one of the first and second transactions for roll back and a request is conveyed to roll back the selected one of the first and second transactions, wherein the preferred transaction is allowed to continue processing.

Abstract: Reports of data elements from a data repository, such as may be used in a browser based business information system, can be displayed whether or not the data repository is currently accessible. Report documents, comprising a master report as well as linked reports, may be exported to a local storage. Upon invoking a master report that has been previously exported to the local storage, requests for the data elements in parameter form that are ordinarily directed to the data repository are intercepted and the local storage is checked for copies of the previously exported reports. Any existing copies of the desired reports are presented as a first option. A browser applet may be used to intercept the data requests and convert them to the corresponding subdirectory paths on the local storage. The linked reports may also be exported to the local storage as a group in a batch operation.

Abstract: System and method for implementing metadata extraction on a data processing system. A natural language processor receives a document and accesses commentary related to the document. In response to accessing commentary related to the document, the natural language processor processes the commentary to generate data structures corresponding to the commentary. Rules are executed on these data structures to generate metadata for the document.

Abstract: A content usage system includes a recording and playback device and a portable electronic device mutually connected via a network. When the recording and playback device receives a certain command while outputting digital content, that content is converted into transfer content suitable for use with the portable electronic device, and then stored with metadata indicating that the content is transfer content. Using the metadata, the recording and playback device is able to generate and transmit a list of transfer content upon request from the portable electronic device. Using the list, the user of the portable electronic device then selects desired transfer content from the list and sends a transfer content request. In response, the recording and playback device transmits the selected transfer content to the portable electronic device, thereby making the content available for use on the portable electronic device.

Abstract: A system and computer readable medium for processing a request to retrieve data from a database is disclosed. The system and computer readable medium of the present invention comprises receiving the request which comprises a function that processes at least one data item specified in the request, retrieving the at least one data item from a database, and invoking the function. When the function is invoked, at least one parameter comprising information related to the at least one data item is passed to the function. Thus, a function can be written independently of the data which they are called to process.

The method (100) selects one or more of the annotations and forms a first plurality of groups of items from the collection of items, each item in a group having one or more of the selected annotations in common. The method (100) selects a second plurality of the groups of items to form a sequence of groups, each group in the sequence comprising an item having at least one annotation in common with an item of at least one adjacent group of the sequence. The items are ordered within each of the selected groups of the sequence based on the selected annotations.

Abstract: A method, apparatus, and correspondingly configured computer program, in which a querying device inputs a user an identification of desired content and sends a query request for the desired content to surrounding memory devices. The query request is adapted to cause compatible receiving memory devices to perform a search based on the request. The memory devices are configured to listen to query requests and responsively perform searches based on the queries. Any memory device that finds content according to the query request responds to the query device which, after sending the query request, monitors for the compatible receiving memory devices for information that the queried content is found. Responsive to receiving the information from a given memory device, the querying device establishes a connection with the given memory device and obtains the content.

Abstract: A method, system and computer program product for communicating requests to multiple destinations in a business transaction are disclosed. A mass request is communicated to a processing center, the mass request including an identification portion and a content portion. The identification portion is used to obtain a parent attribute common to requests to all destinations. The content portion is parsed to generate multiple content strings corresponding to the multiple destinations. The parent attribute and each content string is combined to generate an individual request to a respective destination.

Abstract: Systems, apparatuses and methods for identifying the end of the presentation of a content item such as a song, and/or identifying transitions from one content item to another. Content is presented via a device. A calculated fingerprint(s) representative of at least a portion of the content is transmitted. A more comprehensive content fingerprint for the content is received in response to the transmission of the calculated fingerprint. The device locally compares further calculated fingerprints to the received content fingerprint to identify an end to the presentation of the content.

Abstract: An information processing apparatus and an information processing method are provided to carry out an efficient content transfer process. When the contents stored in and managed by the information processing apparatus are to be transferred to an external device, a check-out log is acquired from the external device as information including the content IDs about the contents already transferred to the device. The content IDs in the check-out log are compared with the content IDs acquired from a song management information storage section in the information processing apparatus with regard to the contents stored in the apparatus, whereby non-transferred contents are selected and transferred to the external device. The inventive apparatus and method eliminate the need for the user to confirm already transferred contents in order to select the contents to be transferred, thus making the transfer of contents more efficient than before.

Abstract: A system for enhancing the reliability of file systems is provided. In particular embodiments, the system includes a data storage device that includes one or more journal blocks, one or more primary metadata blocks, and one or more mirror metadata blocks. The system also includes a file system that writes metadata to the one or more journal blocks before writing the metadata to both the one or more primary metadata blocks and to the one or more mirror metadata blocks.

Abstract: A content item may be associated with metadata comprising one or more tags. A user may indicate a relevance rating associated with a tag. The relevance rating may indicate whether the user feels the tag is relevant to a particular content item. Using a plurality of user-provided relevance ratings, a tag relevance model may be established. A tag relevance model may comprise a weighted or un-weighted average and/or median relevance rating of the tag and/or a consistency of the relevance rating. The tag relevance model may be used to order or otherwise inform search results. Tag ratings may also be used to aggregate users into groups comprising users having a similar point of view relative to one or more tag ratings. In addition, users may be grouped according to content access and/or tags rated regardless of the relevance rating applied.

Abstract: A system for associating content-relevant metadata with digital image files. The system searches memory for at least one image file deficient of content-relevant metadata and analyzes the at least one image file for determining existing content-relevant metadata. The at least one image file and at least a portion of candidate content-relevant metadata is presented to the to a user. The user is allowed to acknowledge the portion of the candidate content-relevant metadata presented, which can then be stored in a database.

Abstract: An approach using self-configuring multi-type and multi-location result aggregation for large cross-platforms is presented. An enterprise tier component includes a request manager that receives query requests from a distribution tier component over a request path. The request manager retrieves one or more data thresholds and compares the data query's result to the data thresholds. When the data query result is less than the data thresholds, the request manager sends the data query result to the distribution manager over the request path. However, when the data query result exceed one of the data thresholds, the request manager stores the data query result in a temporary storage area and sends metadata, which includes the temporary storage area location, to the distribution tier component over the request path. In turn, the distribution tier component retrieves the data query result directly from the temporary storage area over a dedicated data path.

Abstract: A computer program product, tangibly embodied in an information carrier, for use in a commercial data processing environment using at least one RFID/EPC readers and antennae for data collection. The computer program is able to read and collect tag data as it is read, create business documents for the user from a set of business rules and pre-built business document templates in electronic storage, convert both the business document and the tag data into separate database structures and join the two database structures into a single database structure. The single database structure in converted back into the required business document format.

Abstract: The present invention is directed towards systems and methods for indexing one or more items of video content. A method according to one embodiment of the present invention comprises receiving a video feed from a content provider, a given video feed comprising an item of video content and one or more items of metadata, a given item of metadata comprises data identifying payment for placement of a given item of video content in a result set in response to a given query, parsing the video feed from the content provider to identify the one or more items of metadata associated with the item of video content and indexing the item of video content in accordance with the one or more items of metadata associated with the item of video content in one or more indices.

Abstract: Methods for processing multi-source data. It is determined whether any data exists at a position pointed by a first pointer corresponding to a first data source in a queue. If so, an overlapped portion of data read from the first data source and the data pointed by the first pointer in the queue is processed with the data in the queue, and stored to the queue from the position pointed by the first pointer. The first pointer re-points to a position subsequent to the processed data in the queue. A non-overlapped portion of the data read from the first data source and the data pointed by the first pointer in the queue is stored to the queue from the position pointed by the first pointer. If the data in the queue is processed with data from each of the data sources, the processed data is output to a data processing system for further processing.

Once the decision to prefetch is made, a plurality of inodes are prefetched in parallel. Further, the prefetching of inodes is paced, such that the prefetching substantially matches the speed at which an application requests inodes.

Abstract: Synchronization of a web syndication item over a Really Simple Syndication (RSS) format between a publisher and a subscriber. The publisher creates the web syndication item by including a media content associated therewith. The synchronization metadata is defined to include a first virtual clock value associated with the created web syndication item. The first virtual clock value indicates when the web syndication item was last updated. A request for subscribing the published web syndication item is received from the subscriber. In response to the received request, the published web syndication item is transmitted to a location remote from the publisher and accessible by the subscriber. The first virtual clock value is provided to the subscriber for use by the subscriber to modify the first virtual clock value when the subscriber modifies the media content associated with the web syndication item.

Abstract: The present invention relates to a system and method for interacting with digital media that permits creating, editing, combining, producing, and using digital media content. In one aspect of the invention, these features are implemented using a “virtual container” or unit that contains structured information. This structured information includes the software, metadata and content required to use the content on a wide array of platforms, without software installations and without required net access or complex DRM interaction. Additional aspects of the invention extend the above described functionality and universality by enabling new ways to use the platform and link interested and connected parties so that consumers can interact with the product, create or mashup new products, or monetize their content.

Abstract: Various embodiments of the presently described invention provide a method for visually representing associations among data and/or events presented on one or more timelines. A user is provided with the ability to select a filter that can be used to determine a plurality of data/events that are associated or related to one another according to the rule(s) defined by the filter. Once the associated data/events are determined, the association among the data/events is graphically presented to the user.

Abstract: For centuries written content has been subject to plagiarism, diminishing the value of the content to owners. This problem has been compounded by networked information spaces such as the Internet where content can be published widely in a very short period of time. The present invention solves one aspect of this problem by showing an information commerce system reliant on the value of content metadata as the goods rather than the actual words within the content. In this way, the content itself remains discoverable on the network while the underlying value is protected by the content owner.

Abstract: Disclosed is a method and apparatus for automatically creating an offline enterprise application from an online enterprise application by importing the data from the online enterprise application to an offline system, including importing user interface (UI) metadata, enterprise services repository (ESR) data and application data from the online enterprise application and generating the UI and enterprise services from the imported UI metadata and ESR data respectively. The created offline enterprise application switches automatically between offline mode and online mode.

At least one embodiment of a method includes receiving a plurality of web pages, the web pages including metadata, extracting at least a portion of the metadata from the web pages, and creating at least one topic associated with the web pages, the at least one topic corresponding to at least a portion of the metadata.

Abstract: Architecture for security trimming results in a document version environment. Versioned documents are stored with metadata that includes associated access rights. All versions are searched using multiple user accounts of varying levels of access that correspond to the document versions. Result sets are returned for each user account and trimmed during a merge process by considering the user rights associated with each of multiple versions of objects or documents. Each document metadata includes a scope ID that defines security rights for that document. In a two-version document (major and minor) implementation, successive queries are run as a user with rights to all minor versions, and as a user with rights to all major items, but not the minor items. The result sets are merged into a final trimmed result set by examining the rights to each item in the versioned sets that align with rights of the current user.

Abstract: A method, system and article of manufacture for managing metadata associated with a data abstraction model abstractly describing data in a database. One embodiment provides a method of managing metadata describing objects of a data abstraction model with logical fields that define abstract views of physical data in a database. The method comprises traversing a logical tree structure representing the data abstraction model. The logical tree structure has a plurality of nodes, each representing a logical field or a category of logical fields of the data abstraction model. The method further comprises identifying metadata describing logical fields or categories represented by the plurality of nodes. The identified metadata is stored in a queryable database. A user is allowed to query the database to identify objects in the data abstraction model that may be used to construct an abstract query.

Abstract: A method for requesting metadata which is contained in a data stream and an associated device for executing the method are designed to allow a particularly efficient and time-saving request of the data and, particularly in the case of a frequently or repeatedly required subset of the metadata contained in the data stream, to reduce or even minimize the required access time. This problem is improved upon or even solved in accordance with at least one embodiment of the invention by extracting at least a part of the metadata from the incoming data stream and copying it into a metadata storage during a preparation phase, and by storing the data stream in a data stream storage.
