  • Patent number: 8949479
Abstract: An information processing apparatus (MFP) according to an aspect of this invention selects, from among memory channel groups composed of possible combinations of available memory channels in a wide IO memory device, a memory channel group with a number of memory channels that can maintain a necessary data transfer rate even if the operation frequency is reduced. At that time, the MFP evaluates the power consumption of the wide IO memory device in the case of using each memory channel group at the operation frequency and operation voltage corresponding to the number of memory channels in the memory channel group and to the transfer rate needed for job execution. As a result of evaluating power consumption, the MFP selects the memory channel group with the lowest power consumption and uses it for job execution.

  • Patent number: 8892805
Abstract: A high performance computing system is provided with an ASIC that communicates with another device in the system according to a protocol defined by the other device. The ASIC is coupled to a reconfigurable protocol table, in the form of a high speed content-addressable memory (“CAM”). The CAM includes instructions to control the execution of the protocol by the ASIC. The CAM may include instructions to control the ASIC in the event that unanticipated signals or other errors are encountered while executing the protocol. Internal ASIC state data may be routed to the CAM to permit the ASIC to generate a reasonable response to errors either in the design or fabrication of the ASIC or the device with which it is communicating.

  • Patent number: 8745277
Abstract: A command portal enables a host system to send non-standard or “vendor-specific” storage subsystem commands to a storage subsystem using an operating system (OS) device driver that does not support or recognize such non-standard commands. The architecture thereby reduces or eliminates the need to develop custom device drivers that support the storage subsystem's non-standard commands. To execute non-standard commands using the command portal, the host system embeds the non-standard commands in blocks of write data, and writes these data blocks to the storage subsystem using standard write commands supported by standard OS device drivers. The storage subsystem extracts and executes the non-standard commands. The non-standard commands may alternatively be implied by the particular target addresses used. The host system may retrieve execution results of the non-standard commands using standard read commands.

Abstract: In a method for combining universal serial bus (USB) flash drives using a multi-disk combination device, the multi-disk combination device includes a USB input port and several USB output ports. The method sets an initialization voltage value of each of the USB output ports as a low voltage level, and detects a current voltage value of each of the USB output ports while the USB input port is plugged into a USB connection of an electronic device. The method determines whether any USB output port connects to a USB flash drive, builds a disk array mode for all USB flash drives connected to the USB output ports, and controls each of the USB flash drives to store data of the electronic device in the disk array mode through a USB output port corresponding to the USB flash drive.

Abstract: A distributed memory architecture for a layer 2 processing circuit chip (50) is described. In one implementation, the layer 2 processing circuit chip (50) comprises an external memory interface configured to provide access to data packets stored in an external memory (52), a layer 2 processor (54) coupled to the external memory interface (56) and configured to process data packets retrieved from the external memory (56) to generate RLC SDUs, and an on-chip memory (58) coupled to the layer 2 processor (54) and configured to store the RLC PDUs generated by the layer 2 processor (54) prior to their transmission. Upon a request to retransmit an RLC PDU, the layer 2 processor (54) is configured to selectively read the RLC PDU to be retransmitted from the on-chip memory (58) or a data packet comprising the RLC PDU to be retransmitted from the external memory (52).

Abstract: A transmitting section 7a outputs a transmission signal to the side of a transmission line 1. A first switching section Qa1 outputs the transmission signal to the transmission line 1. A second switching section Qa2 outputs the transmission signal from the transmission line 1. A receiving section 9a receives the transmission signal from the transmission line 1. A first detecting section 13a detects the transmission signal flowing through the first switching section Qa1. A second detecting section 19a detects the transmission signal flowing through the second switching section Qa2. When the transmission signal from the transmitting section 7a is not detected at both the first and second detecting sections 13a and 19a, a selecting section 15a selects the receiving section 9a and outputs a reception signal.

  • Patent number: 8417866
Abstract: Methods for transmitting application specific or extended commands between a host and a memory card are disclosed. Commands for an extended card protocol are embedded in messages, along with a marker, in the data or command portion of a base card transmission protocol that is used to communicate between the host and the memory card. This allows for the transmission of application specific commands that lack a corresponding command in the base card protocol. The method can be implemented on the host side at the device driver level or the file level. In order to implement a read command in the extended card protocol, a write command in the base card protocol with an encapsulated read command in the extended protocol is first sent to a logical address, followed by a read command to the same logical address. Message set identifiers associate embedded commands and data received in separate transmissions.
