Abstract: A method of interacting with data at a wireless communication device is provided. The wireless communication device has access to a first set of capabilities. Data is received at the wireless communication device via a wireless transmission. The data represents visual content that is viewable via a display device. A graphical user interface, including a delayed action selector, is provided via the display device. An input is received within a limited period of time after displaying the delayed action selector. The input is associated with a command to delay execution of an action with respect to the data until the wireless communication device has access to a second set of capabilities. The action is not supported by the first set of capabilities but is supported by the second set of capabilities. An indication of receipt of the input is provided at the wireless communication device.

  • Patent number: 8898344
Abstract: A semantic analyzer receives a segment of content, analyzes it utilizing semantic analysis, and outputs an indication regarding whether a value related to a predicted emotional response to the segment reaches a predetermined threshold. Based on the indication, a controller selects a measuring rate, from amongst at least first and second measuring rates, at which a device is to take measurements of affective response of a user to the segment. The first rate may be selected when the value does not reach the predetermined threshold, while the second mode may be selected when the value does reach it. The device takes significantly fewer measurements while operating at the first measuring rate, compared to number of measurements it takes while operating at the second measuring rate.

  • Patent number: 8892780
Abstract: Automated management of shared I/O resources involves use of a policy engine for implementing I/O scheduling group I/O policies. The I/O policies are used for determining whether corresponding I/O requests should be issued to a shared storage system immediately or should be delayed via corresponding policy-based queues. In the context of database systems, a database administrator can specify policies regarding how I/O resources should be used and the database system itself enforces the policies, rather than requiring the database administrator enforce the I/O usage of the database and of the individual users.

  • Patent number: 8880753
Abstract: Some embodiments relate to a vehicle electronic controller having a microcomputer and a port expansion element, with reduced power consumption and radio noise. An MCU (microcomputer) performs determination processing that determines whether an output condition is established that is based on a signal that is input via a signal input port of the MCU. If the output condition is established, the MCU transmits a signal output instruction to a port expansion element via a communication port, and if not, the instruction is not transmitted. The port expansion element outputs a signal via a signal output port in response to an instruction from the MCU. The port expansion element automatically switches, depending on whether communication via the MCU is being suspended, between operation in a waiting mode in which the internal oscillation circuit is suspended, and operation in a normal mode in which the internal oscillation circuit is operated.

Abstract: A method and system for adaptive processing of alert messages exchanged between applications is disclosed. The system may include a diagnostic engine coupled to a plurality of applications. A plurality of application alert messages may be monitored to determine if the alerts exceed a predetermined threshold. If a threshold number of alert messages is exceeded, an interface status based on a diagnostic code for the interface may be determined. A query value for the interface may be adjusted. Based on the amount of the increase in the alert messages, different actions may be indicated. An administrator for the application interface or for equipment associated with the interface may be notified for servicing the equipment.

Abstract: A method for continuous data transfer when a USB mass storage device is disconnected and reconnected is provided. The method may include monitoring state information from one or more mass storage devices, using a software driver to detect a change in state of the mass storage device on the computer. Active I/O transfers using the USB mass storage device are paused when the software driver detects that the USB mass storage device is detached from the computer. A configurable timer is started. The software drive may detect the attaching of a USB device. If, prior to the expiration of the timer, the software driver verifies that the USB mass storage device is the same that was previously attached to the computer, active I/O transfers are continued.
