Abstract: A machine may be configured to execute a machine-learning process for identifying and understanding fine properties of various items of various types by using images and associated corresponding annotations, such as titles, captions, tags, keywords, or other textual information applied to these images. By use of a machine-learning process, the machine may perform property identification accurately and without human intervention. These item properties may be used as annotations for other images that have similar features. Accordingly, the machine may answer user-submitted questions, such as “What do rustic items look like?,” and items or images depicting items that are deemed to be rustic can be readily identified, classified, ranked, or any suitable combination thereof.

Abstract: A computer implemented method, a data processing system, and a computer program publish an audio annotation of a media signal. A media player plays a media signal. The media player then records an audio annotation to the media signal. Responsive to recording the audio annotation to the media signal, the media player records an identifier to be associated with the media signal. The audio annotation is then published to a social networking host.

Abstract: Techniques for ranking electronic content items include analyzing annotations made in the content items. Specifically, the number of annotations and the number of people making the annotations can be analyzed to produce a popularity ranking of different content items.

The annotation can be static or dynamic and/or interactive or non-interactive. The apparatus includes: an adding portion that adds a second object to each of the pages; an extraction portion that extracts, from the pages, a possible improper page that is a page to which the second object is probably not added properly, the possible improper page being extracted for each cause due to which the second object is not added properly; a quantity display portion that displays, for each cause, a quantity of the possible improper page thus extracted; an excluding portion that excludes, from the possible improper page, a selected page that is a page corresponding to the cause selected by a user; and an informing portion that informs the user of a to-be-confirmed page corresponding to the possible improper page remaining after excluding the selected page.

Abstract: A tag management system can implement a combined synchronous and asynchronous tag-loading scheme. In an embodiment of this scheme, a synchronous tag may be included at the top of or near the top of a content page. This synchronous tag can hide one or more page elements that are to be modified by a subsequent asynchronous personalization tag. Subsequently, the asynchronous personalization tag can update the page element and then cause the page element to be displayed. As a result, flicker between the old and new page elements can be reduced or avoided.

Abstract: Methods and computer readable mediums storing computer executable programs for managing multimodal annotations of an image are disclosed. A first communication channel is established between a first machine and a mobile device. A first hierarchical data structure generated by the mobile device is received at the first machine. The first hierarchical data structure includes an image annotated with at least one multimodal annotation. A representation of the first hierarchical data structure is rendered at the first machine. At least one multimodal annotation modification associated with the image is received at the first machine. The at least one multimodal annotation modification is incorporated into the first hierarchical data structure thereby generating a second hierarchical data structure.

Abstract: A method, system, and computer program product allow a user to annotate and manipulate a plurality of electronic documents. The user loads a first electronic document comprising electronic content, which content may be annotated or otherwise manipulated by the user and which annotations are made using a user-defined indication means. The annotated content is outputted to a second electronic document, wherein the content is automatically organized into a corresponding grouping defined by a user-selected identifying aspect. The user may subsequently reorganize any of the outputted annotations within the second electronic document. The method, system, and computer program product further utilize a file browser within which a plurality of electronic documents may be organized and maintained by the user and a client-server protocol for communicating data between a remote database and a local storage medium.

Abstract: The present invention is directed in general to imaging technologies and more particularly to medical imaging and picture archiving and communication systems (PACS) having an image display wherein system features and functions are provided to a user via active overlays located over displayed images. A system and method are provided to imbed an ability to interact with an image by activating traditional annotations that are displayed in conjunction with an image in a PACS. Users are able to access program functionalities in an improved, quicker, accurate and more intuitive means. More specifically, the present invention relates to providing the capability to customize multiple context menus, and flatten the command hierarchy of an imaging system. The present invention also provides the ability to “overload” current text and graphic annotations that are already displayed within an image of interest.

Abstract: The invention provides a display interface in a social networking system that enables the presentation of information related to a user in a timeline or map view. The system accesses information about a user of a social networking system, including both data about the user and social network activities related to the user. The system then selects one or more of these pieces of data and/or activities from a certain time period and gathers them into timeline units based on their relatedness and their relevance to users. These timeline units are ranked by relevance to the user, and are used to generate a timeline or map view for the user containing visual representations of the timeline units organized by location or time. The timeline or map view is then provided to other users of the social networking system that wish to view information about the user.

Annotations are created in such a way that annotator's commands in making the annotations are also captured. Multiple creators may create annotations simultaneously and reviewers may review all the annotations in real time. Alternatively, multiple people may create annotations one by one and reviewers may review all the annotations created.

Abstract: Systems and methods are provided for handling electronic messages. An electronic message is examined as to whether the message contains one or more encoding properties. A visual indication is generated for use in a display to a user wherein the visual indication is displayed to the extent to which the encoding property applies to a displayed portion of the message.

Abstract: A method, system and program product for annotating a transient state of a computer displayed application enables annotation of transient applications particularly web based applications. A transient application address (or key) and state information related to an application at a transient state are stored in an annotation store along with an annotation. The annotation is related to the transient application by the application address or key. The application is automatically restored to the transient state when the annotation is requested. Optionally a screen capture of the application at the transient state is also presented.

Abstract: A guided natural language interface, a method for guiding a user in specifying a color problem with a document image, and a set of templates for use in the interface and method are provided. The interface includes computer readable memory which stores a set of issue description templates, each template being configured for guiding a user in formulating a problem statement characterizing, in natural language, a problem related to color identified in an input document. A natural rendering engine receives information input by a user and/or information input from an associated problem detector, and instantiates one of the templates in response thereto. The natural language rendering engine is configured for presenting the problem statement to the user as it is refined and communicating information based on the refined problem statement to an associated problem corrector.

Abstract: In general, the invention relates to a method for capturing information from a web site. The method includes accessing the web site using a browser with a browser module, where the web site comprises a number of web pages having information in a first format, and obtaining a profile corresponding to the web site, where the profile defines a manner to capture information in a first format from the web site. Abstract: This disclosure describes a method and apparatus for annotating and sharing a digital object with multiple other digital objects. The invention presented addresses these deficiencies by defining a mechanism and apparatus for taking a digital object, be it a text document, still image, or other object, and allowing annotations associated with that digital object to be both authored and consumed by multiple sources in a collaborative environment. Further, the invention provides mechanisms for controlled consumption of the annotation, and the solicitation and reservation of annotation between multiple users.

Abstract: Ambient displays and electronic whiteboards are commonly used to present information during meeting or other appropriate settings. Many times graphical objects are displayed on ambient displays where users of the ambient display will create annotations to the graphical object to provide further comments, meaning, and/or context. Annotations on the ambient display may be recorded for later review. An effective way to present recorded annotations is through a hierarchical system that provides context to the annotations. Annotations may be defined as sets of annotations based upon a logical grouping (e.g. spatial density, temporal density, etc.). These sets can be displayed to users as annotation branches. One or more layers, including a transparent layer, at least partially located over the multimedia object displayed on the web page are generated wherein the one or more layers are configured to facilitate the creation and display of annotation data for the multimedia object based on user interface events produced by a user of the client computer system. Annotation data for the multimedia object is received from the user. The annotation data is transmitted to an annotation server for storage. A visual indicator indicating that the annotation data is associated with the multimedia object is displayed, wherein the visual indicator is rendered in the one or more layers.

Abstract: There is disclosed a user interface for editing photo tags. In an embodiment, the user interface embodies a method of editing photo tags, comprising: displaying a photo on a display; providing a photo tagging mode for editing tags for the displayed photo; and for each tag used to tag a subject or object in the photo, identifying the tag type and associating a unique pointer for each tag type to highlight the corresponding tagged subject or object. Abstract: A method and system for adding annotations to content of a webpage provided by a content server includes identifying a portion of the content of the webpage and applying an annotation to the identified portion of the content. The annotation and its association with the identified portion is saved on an annotations server and a link is generated to an annotated webpage wherein the content for webpage is received from a content server and the annotation is received from the annotations server. The link is sharable so as to enable others to view the annotation associated with the identified portion of the content.

Abstract: A method and a system to automatically segment text based on header tokens is described. A relevance value and an irrelevance value are determined for each token in a description, assuming no tokens are left out of computations. The irrelevance value is based on occurrences of a token in a sample set of descriptions. The relevance value is an estimated probability of relevance based on the header of the description being segmented.

Abstract: A computer-implemented method and system for reconstructing a clean document from annotated document images and/or extracting annotations therefrom are provided. The method includes receiving a set of at least two annotated document images into computer memory, selecting a representative image from the set of annotated document images, performing a global alignment on each of the set of annotated document images with respect to the selected representative image, and forming a consensus document image based at least on the aligned annotated document images. A clean document based at least on the consensus document image is then formed which can be used for extracting the annotations.

Abstract: The present invention is directed to a method and device for obtaining, viewing and marking maps in real time. Maps are obtained from a list of maps, the maps are then viewed on interactive tabletop displays allowing a user to visualize a mapped location and “markup” points on the map. The markup data is captured as a small file and sent out to responders via rapid transmission in both real time as it is developed or as final actionable information. The maps employed in the present invention include land maps or building floor plans that are either in paper or digital formats. This invention empowers emergency management personnel to leverage all available information and create actionable plans that can be shared with tactical teams at a low cost.
