Abstract: A N-up calculator graphical user interface (GUI) is provided for performing N-Up printing. The graphical user interface includes configurable objects for specifying: 1) the size of the page, 2) the dimensions of the image, and 3) the number of images to be printed on each page (N-up). The controls on the GUI can include page size, reduction/enlargement percentage, final image size?height/width, Number up, and other related controls. The manipulation of any one of the controls may affect the others according to a set of rules. These rules determine which objects are held constant and for which values are automatically calculated, and the object automatically configured. The rule-set can be manipulated by selecting from a list of modes or options such as “Conserve Paper,” “Fit as Many Images as Possible” or “Maximize Image size” or by locking certain controls and freeing others.

Abstract: An apparatus, system, and method are disclosed for ensuring query execution plan stability in a database management system. The present invention binds a static database query to a new query execution plan (QEP) that produces the same result set as an original QEP bound to the static database query. Next, the present invention identifies one of the original QEP and the new QEP as a primary QEP and automatically collects execution statistics for the original QEP and the new QEP. Finally, the present invention automatically selects one of the original QEP and the new QEP as the primary QEP in response to completion of the automatic collection of execution statistics, the primary QEP selected such that the automatically selected QEP provides optimal execution performance based on performance criteria in comparison to the automatically unselected QEP, the primary QEP selected based on the execution statistics.

The edited view includes a sequence of the plurality of view area sizes, wherein each of the plurality of view area sizes are separated by one of a plurality of interactive virtual boundary lines, and each of the a plurality of interactive virtual boundary lines have an indicator to form a plurality of indicators.

Abstract: A system and method for rearranging a plurality of pages of an electronic document is disclosed. The method might include the steps of providing a bookmark profile that includes a plurality of categories, receiving a description pertaining to one of the plurality of categories, associating a page of the plurality of pages with the description, inserting the description into the bookmark profile, and arranging the plurality of pages according to the bookmark profile.

Abstract: In order to allow flexible output settings for individual pieces of output data, in a hot folder, names relating to pieces of output data (e.g., subfolder names or print data names) and pieces of output setting information are set in association with each other. Thus, a job ticket is generated using a piece of output setting information associated with a name relating to a piece of output data input to the hot folder.

Abstract: A system and method are disclosed for displaying a preview of the positioning of an advertisement within a page. An advertiser may identify a position for displaying its advertisements and a position viewer provides a preview display of the appearance of the advertisement at that position within a page. The position viewer may be a part of an interface for matching advertisements with available ad space. The automatic previewing of an advertisement in a selected position may assist an advertiser in identifying the optimal advertisement space for the advertisement.

Abstract: A printing method of making a booklet includes requesting a printing task, calculating a number of pages corresponding to a printing range, arranging the pages according to a predetermined page layout, reducing images of the pages according to the predetermined page layout, and composing the reduced images of the pages into a single image in response to the predetermined page layout to transmit the single image. An N-up operation and a duplex operation may be used to allow the portable booklet to be readily made, and a title page and a punching space may be taken into consideration.

Abstract: Various embodiments of a method, system and computer program product for capturing a workflow are provided. A capture application automatically stores at least a portion of a copied screen of a source application from a clipboard to provide a captured screen. The capture application repeats the automatic storing to provide a set of captured screens. In various embodiments, a document is built based on the set of captured screens.

Abstract: A reader for obtaining a plurality of categorized digital content from a content aggregator framework over a communications network based on a content subscription with the aggregator framework, the reader configured for operation on a digital device. The reader includes an interface module configured for receiving content category selections from a user of the device and for identifying a profile of the user including one or more user definitions. A communications module communicates the profile and the content selections to the aggregator framework; and a generation module configured presents updated versions of the digital content to device user when the updated digital content becomes available from the aggregator framework, such that the digital content is assigned to one or more of the content categories as selected by the user. The user definitions of the profile and the content selections of the user are used to determine the contents of the updated digital content obtained by the reader.

Abstract: A method for pre-print visualization of a 3D object that represents opposite faces of a document is described. The method includes manipulating two 3D objects that represent opposite faces of a document in parallel such that they do not intersect while being animated in a folding operation.

Abstract: The assembly of documents assembled by a team is simplified. Document sections are assigned to a team member from within a word-processing document. Once a document template is opened by a user, the different sections within the document may be assigned to team members. Once a section is assigned, a notification is sent to the team members indicating the assignment. The team member may access their assigned section(s) through the notification. The team member may also access a central location to edit the sections they have been assigned. Team members from within the document may also search and use content from one or more content libraries to assist in the document assembly. Newly created content may also be saved to a new and/or existing content library. The content is then available to other team members working on the same or different projects.

Abstract: A method for organizing and consulting electronic data in a media library, the electronic data originating from a plurality of sources and being supplied in various forms. The method provides a universal link between these various forms of electronic data in such a way that the electronic data can be consulted, stored and reused on common media within the media library. The method is particularly adaptable for off-line consultation of documents collected on the Web or from any document resource.

Abstract: Described is a system that characterizes segments of a document with one or more keyphrases and then uses the keyphrases to help users find interesting parts of a document. The keyphrases are displayed with information about the location of the phrase in the document and are used as pointers to quickly move to from an overview to a section of potential interest.

Abstract: This invention relates to a document processing apparatus and method for a structured document formed by grouping original pages. The document processing apparatus according to this invention controls display of the image objects of either or both of a document structure and an original page contained in the document. The document processing apparatus includes an editor which edits the document so as to insert a new group containing a designated original page to a designated position in accordance with designation of the original page and the position on the displayed image objects. Display of the image objects is controlled for the document edited by the editor.

The intermediate web device forms a content list corresponding to at least some of the content provided to the intermediate web provider. The intermediate web provider communicates the content list to the user network device from the intermediate web provider. The user network device forms a selection from the content list at the user network device and communicates the selection to the partner service provider. The intermediate user device communicates the content corresponding to the selection to the user network device.

Abstract: Various embodiments evaluate content that is to be printed and ascertain whether the content is going to overflow or be “orphaned” onto a second page when printed. If some content will create an orphan when printed, then the content is scaled to fit onto a single page when printed. In some embodiments, the content is simply proportionally scaled to fit onto a single page. In other embodiments, the content is further processed to scale it in a manner that makes intelligent use of the white space on the printed page.

The Web maps display a summary of the information that a Web page provides access to, in a format that facilitates a rapid assessment of what may be accessed through a Web site's home page, or through any Web page on the Web site. Preferably, Web maps are displayed on a Web page, or within a frame of a Web page, by an Internet browser application. A set of Web maps may be automatically generated by a search engine or directory in response to a user's search request. Alternatively, a user may request that a Web map be produced for a particular Web page of interest. The Web maps are preferably generated by a Web server, or by an application running in the background of a user's computer, so that the user may perform other tasks on the user's computer while the Web maps are being generated.

Abstract: A computer implemented method, computer program product and data processing system control the presentation of sensitive data within a document. A request to open a document having redacted sensitive data is received. Responsive to receiving the request to open the document, a reference to sensitive data is identified within the document. The reference points to a separate location than that of the document itself. Responsive to identifying the reference to sensitive data within the document, an attempt to resolve the reference to the separate location is made. If the reference to the separate location cannot be resolved, the document is displayed without the redacted sensitive data.

Abstract: A method and a data processing system for displaying a first document and a second document in a synchronized way are disclosed. The first document includes a first set of control tags. The second document includes a second set of control tags. A control tag of the first set of control tags is uniquely assigned to a control tag of the second set of control tags. A portion of the first document is displayed to a user, wherein a first control tag is identified in the first document, wherein the first control tag corresponds to the control tag of the first set of control tags which is situated in essence at the top of the displayed portion of the first document. Abstract: A user affixes one or more action stickers to a collection coversheet to identify, by location on the coversheet, target documents within a previously stored collection of documents. The action stickers also specify actions to be performed on the target documents. The coversheet is scanned and the affixed stickers are located and read. The specified actions are then performed on the target documents. If the specified actions change the organization or architecture of the document collection, an updated version of the collection may be generated and stored, and a new coversheet may be printed. The action stickers may be removable, self-adhesive labels.

Abstract: The subject application is directed to a system and method for controlling access to a document processing device based on roles assigned to user groups. Each group of users has certain functions for which they are authorized to use a document processing device. The device determines the group to which the user belongs, and then determines those functions of the device for which the group is authorized. The device then compares the requested function with the authorized functions to determine if the group to which the user belongs is allowed to use the document processing device for the requested function. The document processing device then performs the authorized requested function or denies use of the device for an unauthorized function.

Abstract: Client devices capable of merged browsing, and a server for assisting merged browsing, are described herein. In various embodiments, client devices may receive suggestions of network content fragments to be merge browsed with network content being browsed by the user. The client device may then receive a user selection of fragment(s) and facilitate merged browsing of the fragment(s) with the network content. In some embodiments, the client device may facilitate a user in browsing first network content and in selecting a portion of the first network content. The client device may then facilitate the user in browsing second network content and in merged browsing the selected portion with the second network content. In various embodiments, the server may accept registrations of network content fragments, receive indications from client devices of network content being browsed, and assist in merged browsing the network content with one or more network content fragments.

Abstract: In a pen-based computing system, use of paradigms similar to those used with physical paper to organize user generated content captured by a smart pen is disclosed. Data, such as handwriting gestures, is captured by the smart pen and transferred to a digital domain, such as by being transferred to a computing system. Once in the digital domain, the captured content is organized as virtual pages or virtual notebooks. Hence, content captured from various sources, such as different notebooks or different physical pieces of paper, is assembled into a virtual page or virtual notebook. User input or automatic application of rules can be used to assemble the captured content into a virtual page or virtual notebook.

Abstract: A method is described for displaying a preview image of a document in which a plurality of constituents is defined. The includes setting an authority for each user with respect to each constituent; displaying on a display device a content of at least one constituent as a preview image; designating a user for whom the preview image is displayed from among users whose authority is set; determining whether the designated user has an authority to display the content of the at least one constituent; and restricting display of a first portion of the content corresponding to each constituent for which the user is determined to have no authority and displaying a second portion of the content corresponding to each constituent for which the user is determined to have the authority. A document management apparatus for implementing the method is described which may be implemented, for example, using a computer.

Abstract: A system and method of selecting a web page from a plurality of web pages, wherein the plurality of web pages are represented using a plurality of thumbnails is provided. In addition, the plurality of web pages can comprise previously visited web pages and previewed web pages. The system and method further provides a visual indicator that is either displayed by default upon the selection of the web page or is drawn by a user. The visual indicator substantially encompasses a desired portion of the selected web page for initial viewing upon loading or re-loading of the selected web page. Alternatively, the visual indicator can be positioned so that at a predetermined proximity to a desired portion of the web page, the desired portion of the web page is focused on for initial viewing. Remaining portions of the selected web page not encompassed by the visual indicator are not initially displayed.

Abstract: According to a method of data processing, a data set including at least one entry specifying a signal group by a predetermined signal group name is received by a data processing system. In response to receipt of the data set, the entry in the data set is processed to identify the signal group name. Signal group information associated with an event trace file containing simulation results is accessed to determine signal names of multiple signals that are members of the signal group. Simulation results from the event trace file that are associated with instances of said multiple signals are then included within a presentation of simulation results.

The described framework and format define a set of building blocks for composing, packaging, distributing, and rendering document-centered content. These building blocks define a platform-independent framework for document formats that enable software and hardware systems to generate, exchange, and display documents reliably and consistently. The framework and format have been designed in a flexible and extensible fashion. In addition to this general framework and format, a particular format, known as the reach package format, is defined using the general framework. The reach package format is a format for storing paginated documents. The contents of a reach package can be displayed or printed with full fidelity among devices and applications in a wide range of environments and across a wide range scenarios.

Abstract: A method and system in a document viewer for scrolling a substantially exact increment in a document, such as one page, regardless of whether the zoom is such that some, all or one page is currently being viewed. In one implementation, pressing a Page Down or Page Up keyboard key/button allows a user to begin at any starting vertical location within a page, and navigate to that same location on the next or previous page. For example, if a user is viewing a page starting in a viewing area from the middle of that page and ending at the bottom, a Page Down command will cause the next page to be shown in the viewing area starting at the middle of the next page and ending at the bottom of the next page. Similar behavior occurs when there is more than one column of pages being displayed in a row.

Abstract: The subject application is directed to a system and method for simultaneously commencing output of disparately encoded electronic documents. Selection data representative of multiple electronic documents encoded in multiple disparate formats is first received. For example, the electronic documents are capable of being encoded in MICROSOFT OFFICE WORD, MICROSOFT OFFICE EXCEL, ADOBE ACROBAT formats, and the like. Abstract: Aspects of the present invention provide a solution for managing a multiple document interface (MDI) environment. Specifically, an embodiment of the present invention allows a user, administrator, etc., to create a customized user interface for the user. This interface may include a specification of a location of a particular control, such as a tab, for selecting a window in the MDI. The specification may include a particular control location, such as the right edge of the window; a control location relative to another control; and/or a control location relative to a portion of the window, such as second control from the left side of the window. The interface may also include a customized size for the control.

Abstract: A method and system for classifying display pages based on automatically generated summaries of display pages. A web page classification system uses a web page summarization system to generate summaries of web pages. The summary of a web page may include the sentences of the web page that are most closely related to the primary topic of the web page. The summarization system may combine the benefits of multiple summarization techniques to identify the sentences of a web page that represent the primary topic of the web page. Once the summary is generated, the classification system may apply conventional classification techniques to the summary to classify the web page. The classification system may use conventional classification techniques such as a Naïve Bayesian classifier or a support vector machine to identify the classifications of a web page based on the summary generated by the summarization system.

Abstract: The techniques and mechanisms described herein are directed to a method for dynamically creating a destination template based on content within a source document. The destination template may be published in a variety of mediums including as a body of an email message, a web site, and a print-friendly document. A portion of content objects within the source document are grouped into content objects based on a relationship between the content objects, such as a physical relationship, a functional relationship, or a combination of both. For each content block, one of several module templates is dynamically selected and arranged to create the destination template. The module templates may be stretchable and designed to render in an email client using HTML.

Abstract: The invention provides a document generation system for generating a customised document using content elements selected by rules operating on input information, the operating information comprising transaction values. The system comprises at least one computer having a document generation program stored thereon, means to associate further rules with the transaction values, and means to evaluate said further rules to produce an indication of whether transaction values are definite, indefinite or absent in a partially customised generated document. The effect of the transaction values is represented by means of a mark-up.

Abstract: A mobile communication terminal and method are provided. The terminal displays an animation icon associated with active information on a wait screen. A determination is made as to whether a motion of the animation icon is associated with active information of the mobile communication terminal, and the animation icon according to the active information is moved when the motion of the animation icon is associated with active information. Since the animation icon displayed on the wait screen is associated with the active information, a user can easily check the active information of the mobile communication terminal through the animation icon. Also, the present invention increases visibility of active information of the mobile communication terminal and provides new user interfaces.
