Abstract: The subject disclosure pertains to systems and methods for providing an improved user interface for mobile devices. Access to data and services from multiple software applications can be provided through a group or list of items. Each group or list can include multiple items, which can be associated with data or tasks from multiple applications. The set of groups of items can be both customizable and extensible to allow users to locate and utilize data and tasks relevant to the particular user. The set of item groups can provide users with a filtered view of content available through the mobile device, enhancing access to subset of data and tasks available on the mobile device.

Abstract: A graphical user interface for a display devised for presentation of hierarchical information includes a first menu field carrying a list of menu items, at least one of the menu items indicating a submenu field which is expandable within the first menu field. A graphical layer effect is applied to an expanded submenu field such that the submenu field is displayed as an underlying layer to the first menu field.

Abstract: An ultrasound diagnostic apparatus using an index image display apparatus includes: an index image display section for displaying an ROI of an index image having a predetermined shape and to be superimposed on an image displayed on a monitor; a CPU that is a display form changing section that can change a display form of the ROI by a predetermined amount by one operation; an operation portion for outputting an operation signal to the CPU; and an LCD panel that is a change information display section including a plurality of operation buttons provided in the operation portion and representing graphic information that indicates an initial state of the ROI, and change information that is changed by the CPU.

Abstract: A panoramic graphical user interface includes a contiguous background and a collection of mixed-media content objects. The contiguous background includes one or more space-orientating graphical elements and is sized to fit within a first dimension of a display and to extend beyond a second dimension of the display. The collection of mixed-media content objects are anchored over the contiguous background. The collection of mixed-media content objects are arranged to fit within the first dimension of the display and arranged to extend beyond the second dimension of the display.

Abstract: In menu structure, information is separately displayed on a menu item-by-menu item basis. Therefore, the adoption of menu structure involves inconvenience. (For example, pieces of information under different menu items cannot be viewed at the same time.) A portable information communication terminal eliminates this inconvenience. Information is configured in list structure wherein items (A1, . . . , A5, B1, . . . , B4, B5, B6, C1, . . . , C5, D1, . . . (A to D represent groups.)) are arranged in succession. List information (B5 to C5) which is within a predetermined range (the second precedent line through the fourth subsequent line) from a specific item C1 of a predetermined serial number (top number) in a selected group (group C) is displayed. Since the top item in group C is the specific item, items corresponding to group B are also displayed. Thus, items corresponding to different groups (group B and group C) can be displayed at the same time.

Abstract: Provided is a display apparatus including a display panel and a display frame to support the display panel. The display apparatus including an input unit, provided on the exterior surface of the display apparatus, for outputting a contact detection signal when a user contacts the input unit; a signal processor for generating a function adjustment user interface (UI) menu to be displayed on the display panel; and a controller for controlling the signal processor to display the function adjustment UI menu corresponding to the user's contact through the input unit when the user's contact is detected based on a detection result of the input unit. Thus, provided is a display apparatus which improves accessibility to a function adjustment UI menu, simplifies a manipulation process of the function adjustment UI menu, and enables a user to quickly and easily access a desired adjustment item when the function adjustment UI menu is displayed, and a control method thereof.

Abstract: A method, system and computer-usable medium for generating a manufacturing-usable easily modifiable product order document is presented. An object collection of objects that describe features of components of a product is created. A view database that describes a logical relationship among components in the object collection is also created. A single document that includes the object collection and the view database is then generated. This single document can be updated according to technical requirements for a product being manufactured according to a product description created from the single document.

Abstract: A region menu is used to easily access menu items. Generally, the region menu includes a number of regions with associated menus that are located close to an initial mouse position from where the region menu is evoked. Hovering over any of the regions of the region menu displays the menu item that is associated with the region. Additionally, hovering over a menu item within one of the regions of the displayed region menu may activate a live preview showing a projected result of what would occur should that menu item be selected. During a live preview, a portion of the region menu becomes translucent such that content beneath the menu becomes visible.

Abstract: Methods, systems, and related computer program products for processing and displaying computer-aided detection (CAD) information associated with medical breast x-ray images, such as breast x-ray tomosynthesis volumes, are described. An interactive graphical user interface for displaying a tomosynthesis data volume is described that includes a display of a two-dimensional composited image having slabbed sub-images spatially localized to marked CAD findings.

Abstract: A method enables selecting items from a list, as well as functions associated with these items and with the list in general. Each item is identified by an icon displayed in a series of icons. A first command enables the item to be selected and a second command enables it to be activated. The series of icons comprises at least one additional icon. The user selects this additional icon, then at the end of a certain time a sub-menu appears presenting all the functions selectable via the second command. With the second command, the user can execute functions that apply to the list of items and no longer to a single item. Also provided is a device capable of executing the method of selection and executing an item and a function.

Abstract: A handheld electronic device and an improved method employ a GUI to depict a plurality of selectable objects on a display. The selectable objects are arranged in groups, with at least one of the groups being depicted on the display at any given time. The groups are arranged in rings, and the rings are in a virtually stacked arrangement, which enables the user to progressively depict one group of selectable objects after the next. An indicator and a large background, individually or in combination, indicate to the user which ring of selectable objects from the plurality of stacked rings is currently active.

Abstract: An image processing apparatus comprising: a display; a controller that displays or hides a function button for use of a function on a display screen on the display according to one or more than one pattern information object indicating the setting whether to display or hide the function button on the display screen; a firmware updater that updates firmware; and a comparator that compares the old and new firmware in terms of the functions installed thereon, and wherein, if the comparison result drawn by the comparator indicates that a new function is added due to the firmware update, the controller displays or hides a first function button for use of the new function according to pattern information for a second function button for use of a function on a higher layer than the new function or pattern information for a group including the second function button.

Abstract: Methods, systems, and articles of manufacture for placing menu items in a cascading radial menu. A cascading radial menu may be displayed upon receiving a gesture that causes a screen pointer to select a radial menu item in a first radial menu. The first radial menu item may be associated with a second radial menu. One or more second radial menu items may be placed in the second radial menu based on a direction of movement of the screen pointer in the gesture to select the radial menu item in the first radial menu.

Abstract: A menu user interface providing device and a method thereof are disclosed. In accordance with an embodiment of the present invention, the method of providing a menu user interface by a portable apparatus, including determining whether a main menu icon displayed on a touch screen is selected; determining whether a menu mode is an activation mode or an inactivation mode if the main menu icon is selected; and changing the menu mode into the activation mode if the menu mode is determined as the inactivation mode and forming an expanded menu by radically arranging a submenu of n hierarchies, n being a natural number, corresponding to the main menu icon and displaying the formed expanded menu through a touch screen. Accordingly, with the present invention, a user interface capable of inputting various data with easy manipulation and minimized multi-points can be provided.

Abstract: A method, a computer product and a device for presentation of elements of a software environment arranged in a hierarchical structure are provided. To allow an easy-to-understand and user-friendly navigable presentation of the elements, the following steps are proposed for the presentation: displaying a linear chain of precisely one representative element of each hierarchy level in each case, with the representative elements being arranged within the linear chain in accordance with their hierarchy level, and display of further elements of a first hierarchy level after the user has selected a first representative element of the linear chain which is assigned to the first hierarchy level.

Abstract: An electronic book system provides interfaces particularly suited to students' use of textbooks. A finger press on a touch screen produces a contextual menu with user choices that relate to where the finger was pressed or what the user was recently doing with the book. A student provisionally navigates through a book by a specific gesture which, when it stops, returns the user to the previous position in the book. Annotations are displayed and hidden using specific gestures and through selective movement of the reader as sensed by its accelerometer.

Abstract: A computer system and method to browse and to move files of a first folder in a horizontal reviewing mode, files of a second folder a first vertical reviewing mode and files of a third folder in a second vertical reviewing mode in the touch display of a portable device is described. The method provides a three dimensional cube rotation scene including a portion of one of second files during the transition in said touch screen. The computer system has a folder selection mode during the switching from the horizontal reviewing mode to the first vertical reviewing mode. The computer system further has a category reviewing mode which enables a user to review folders in each category, wherein each category is presented in different layers of a category tree.

Abstract: Disclosed are an image forming apparatus and a menu select and display method thereof. A select and display method of a menu which is displayed on a (touch) screen of an image forming apparatus, the method includes: displaying an initial screen including at least one menu list to perform at least one of functions of the image forming apparatus; selecting one of the displayed menu lists by touch; and displaying in the selected menu area a first subordinate menu corresponding to the menu area to set an option for the selected menu without converting the remaining menus. With this, an image forming apparatus and a menu select and display method thereof selectively converts a selected menu area only and displays a subordinate menu to set an option for the menu to thereby reduce a load arising from the conversion and returning of the overall screen and reduces user's inconvenience.

Abstract: The invention provides customizable branch navigational area control. Navigational area branches are displayed on a device. Expansion of the navigational area branches is controlled. Selection is accepted for particular navigational area branches. The selected particular navigational area branches are prevented from collapsing upon exceeding a predetermined maximum number limit, by collapsing other navigational area branches to maintain the predetermined maximum number limit. The predetermined maximum number limit represents a limit of navigational area branches allowed to remain in an expanded state.

Abstract: Various technologies and techniques are disclosed that improve the workflow process for resolving data elements, such as email addresses. These technologies and techniques allow the user to perform such tasks in the same context as the activity or message. In addition, user can start and stop the resolution process at any point in the process of composing the activity or email. The activity cannot be finalized, such as an email message being sent, until all of the data elements are resolved.

Abstract: Embodiments of a multi-screen hold and drag gesture are described. In various embodiments, a hold input is recognized at a first screen of a multi-screen system when the hold input is held in place. A motion input is recognized at a second screen of the multi-screen system, and the motion input is recognized to select a displayed object while the hold input remains held in place. A hold and drag gesture can then be determined from the recognized hold and motion inputs.

Abstract: A display control apparatus that makes it easy to recognize a target image when images are displayed in each of regions obtained by dividing a single screen, even when the method for dividing the screen has changed. For example, when the method for dividing the screen in an index view is switched, the post-switch location of a target thumbnail image is calculated based on the ratio between the pre- and post-switch division numbers and the pre-switch location of the target thumbnail image, in both the horizontal and vertical directions. Then, the overall arrangement of the thumbnail images in the index view after the division method switch is determined based on the calculated location of the target thumbnail image.

Various short menus are provided with their respective menu items being dependent and adjustable based upon the position of a cursor on the display page, the currently opened application, and/or the previous selections. Abstract: Example embodiments are directed towards graphical user interfaces for declarative specification languages that express the logic of a computation without describing its control flow. These user interfaces are based on a visual representation of specifications where geometric proximity may be the sole determinant of the resulting configuration. Modularity is improved as each proximal grouping is functionally independent of others. Moreover, a system that executes such specifications may treat groupings independently and execute them in parallel.

Abstract: An automated method and apparatus for providing color selection capability to a user wherein a first display is generated on a display apparatus of an array of color family groups disposed in a plurality of rows and a plurality of columns. Upon selection of a particular color family group, a second display is generated comprising an enlarged display of a particular selected color family group wherein, as the second display is generated, the array of color family groups of the first display dissolves while the particular selected color family group moves into a central enlarged position and a miniature version of the entire array of color family groups is displayed in a thumbnail navigation frame, located in a corner of the display screen. Various elements of a color family such as color stripe cards, color style cards, and sample chips may be selected and caused to appear via animation in a central enlarged position in the display.

Abstract: A method and system for providing context dependent pop-up menu icons that activate menu icons in response to a select & drag operation by manipulation of a pointing device. Presented icons may correspond to functions or actions that can be implemented with the particular type of content selected. Icons may be displayed in a consistent manner in terms of position and content with respect to the selected file or object. Icons may appear only during a select & drag operation, thereby leaving the display uncluttered at other times. Presentation of icons may be discontinued when the selected file or object is dragged beyond the area of the presented icons. New applications can register with the operating system to specify icons to be presented when corresponding files are selected or when particular content objects are selected within the application.

Abstract: A handheld wireless communication device includes features to send and receive text messages. The handheld wireless communication device is further equipped with a microprocessor configured to run software programs on the device such as text message management program. The text message management program displays a listing of a plurality of received text messages on a display screen and differentiates at least a portion of the display-listed plurality of received text messages using an icon associated with at least one text message and wherein said icon corresponds to a domain address of the associated text message.

Abstract: A creation, editing, and display tool for complex diagrams may enable portions of the diagram to be updated without having to update the entire diagram. The tool may use a set of rules that define the positioning and layout of various elements and relationships between elements in the diagram. The update mechanism may enable the rules to be applied to a subset of the diagram and may not update some portions of the diagram, such as those elements outside the viewing area. In some embodiments, a background or low priority process may apply the rules to those portions not updated. The tool may be used for various diagrams, including sequence diagrams and other complex, highly restrained diagram types.

Abstract: An improved user interface is provided for displaying selectable software functionality controls and for presenting logical groupings of particular functionality controls associated with a selected top-level functionality. Underneath a row of top-level functionality tabs, functionalities controls associated with a given top-level functionality tab are presented in logical groupings. Selection of a particular tab switches modes of the user interface to present controls for functionalities associated with the selected tab.

Abstract: Focusing electronic mail messages in a list of messages. Category information is received for classifying particular e-mail messages or senders of the messages in the list of e-mail messages according to a category. The method also includes setting a status data associated with each of the particular messages. The status data indicates the category classified by the user. A first instruction is received from the user for focusing the particular messages according to the category. The particular messages having the status data therewith in the list are focused collectively without altering a preexisting order of the messages in the list.

Abstract: An information processing apparatus includes a detector and a display controller. The detector detects a user operation performed by using a first input interface and a user operation performed by using a second input interface. When the detector detects that an operation using the second input interface has been performed while a predetermined screen is displayed on the basis of detection of an operation using the first input interface, the display controller changes the predetermined screen to a screen containing an object indicating that the object can be operated by an operation using the second input interface.

Where the desired candidate is not displayed, the user selects one of a first subgroup button and a second subgroup button to display the destination candidates in the subgroups before and after the median value, respectively. If two-hundred-fifty-three candidates are displayed in a sequential list in five candidate display spaces, a maximum of fifty operations are required to view all of the candidates. In contrast, the divided display arranges the two-hundred-fifty-three candidates into six levels, so the desired candidate can be selected in a maximum of six operations.

Abstract: An approach for using multiple menus with a graphical user interface is disclosed. A multiple menu comprises a menu panel with two or more selection regions, each of which is associated with a base menu. A user requests the menu panel without selecting a menu object displayed on a display unit, such as by right-clicking. The menu panel is displayed along with one base menu, and other base menus are displayed by the user moving the cursor to another selection region. The user selects a menu item from a base menu to cause the application to execute the function associated with the menu item. The selection regions of the menu panel do not include information describing the content of the associated base menus. By arranging the base menus around the menu panel, cursor movement is minimized to improve user efficiency in using the application.

Abstract: A mobile terminal and method of organizing a menu screen therein are disclosed, by which a menu item can be rearranged in a manner of shifting the menu item located on a first line to another line except the first line. The present invention includes displaying the menu screen including a plurality of lines, each having at least one menu item arranged therein, receiving an input of a touch and drag action from a first point of a first line included in a plurality of the lines to a second point of a second line included in a plurality of the lines, and if receiving the input of the touch and drag action, arranging a first menu item having the first point belong thereto in a manner of shifting the first menu item to a position corresponding to the second point in the second line.

Abstract: A method of identifying grouped toolbar icons. An application program displays a graphical user interface (GUI) that includes multiple toolbar icons. The application iteratively determines whether or not a graphical cursor is in proximity to a first toolbar icon. If the cursor is in proximity to the first icon, the application identifies one or more additional related icons, which are currently displayed and are included in a same pre-defined toolbar icon group as the first icon, and displays a graphical border that surrounds the first icon and the related icons. If the related icons are not adjacent to each other, multiple separate borders are displayed. The application displays a first identification tab in close proximity to the border. The first tab includes a toolbar group name and an icon name of the first icon. The application may also display a second tab that includes descriptive properties of the first icon.
