Abstract: A link curvature processing module enables a user with the ability to control the curvature of links in a node-link diagram. As a node-link diagram is displayed to a user, the user may interact with the diagram and adjust the curvature of one or more links in the diagram to improve the readability of the diagram. The user's modification to the curvature of a link alters the shape of the link so that the position of the nodes connected to the link does not change. By providing the user with such control, the user is able to tailor the visual display of the links to the user's preference.

Abstract: Systems and methods in accordance with various embodiments of the present invention provide for viewing a subset of a file in a secondary window, where a viewable portion of the file is displayed in a main window of a user interface. A user-selection of a reference marker made in the user interface is received. The reference marker corresponds to a point of interest in the file. Based on the selected reference marker, a location of the point of interest in the file is determined. A contextual boundary rule is applied in order to determine a location of a context portion of the file. The subset of the file is retrieved using the location of the point of interest and the location of the context portion of the file. The subset of the file is rendered in the secondary window.

Abstract: Some embodiments of the present invention provide a system that accesses information using multiple hierarchies. During operation, the system receives a specifier for a first location in a first hierarchy and a specifier for a second location in a second hierarchy. Next, the system retrieves information, if such information exists, from an intersection between the first location in the first hierarchy and the second location in the second hierarchy. Finally, the system presents the retrieved information to a user.

Abstract: Techniques are described for display and navigation of hierarchical messages, which displays include contextual data for the messages. Context information for a current message includes reply messages, parent messages, and metadata representations. Message representations are also associated with visual depth indicators that are independent of the text of the messages. Users may navigate displays of hierarchical message data using different navigational inputs. For example, more information may be requested for messages, without selecting a new message for viewing as a focal message, using swipes across portions of the display dedicated to displaying the messages. A limited number of messages for a requested list of messages is initially retrieved and displayed, and a mechanism for viewing more messages from the list is provided. Historical usage of the mechanism is recorded and the number of messages to be displayed for the list of messages is adjusted based on the historical usage data.

Abstract: The present invention is directed to preventing a user from losing sight of a parameter that the user is currently set. To solve the problem, there is provided an information processing apparatus or a display control method for, when detecting that a node in a structure display area is selected by a user's operation, specifying a tab of setting associated with the selected node via a management unit and displaying the tab in a detailed setting display area, and when detecting that a tab in the detailed setting display area is selected by a user's operation, specifying a node associated with the selected tab, via a management unit and displaying the node in a selected state in the structure display area.

Abstract: A system and method displays a compass control with a map or other image. The compass control displays locations that may be displayed on the map, as well as locations that are outside of the map area being displayed, to allow the user to view such locations and interact with them.

Abstract: Methods and systems may provide for receiving a display request associated with a parent node of a hierarchical tree, wherein the parent node has a plurality of child nodes. Additionally, a graphical representation of the parent node and the plurality of child nodes may be determined based on a plurality of factors, and a display response can be generated based on the graphical representation. In one example, the display request is received from a browser and the plurality of factors include a browser type associated with the browser.

Abstract: A method and system to receive a query, from over a network, and identify a first plurality of data items based on the query. The first plurality of data items including a second plurality of data items. Next, the system computes a quantity of the first plurality of data items by counting the first plurality of data items and compares the quantity of the first plurality of data items with a determined threshold to identify the quantity of the first plurality of data items as being greater than the determined threshold. Next, the system presents a user interface, over the network, to the computer system, the user interface includes the second plurality of data items, and further includes at least one user interface element responsive to the identification of the quantity of the first plurality of data items as greater than the determined threshold. The at least one user interface element is selectable to browse the first plurality of data items.

Abstract: In response to receiving a first user action in relation to an object displayed on the rendered display, a collar is displayed on the rendered display around the object. The collar and the object can be made translucent. The collar can have the same shape as the object, but can be larger in size than the object. In response to receiving a second user action in relation to the collar, the object and the collar are moved on the rendered display in correspondence with the second user action, without finalizing a current location of the object on the rendered display after the second user action has been completed. In response to receiving a third user action, the current location of the object is finalized on the rendered display and the collar is removed from around the object on the rendered display.

The apparatus includes an identifier module for associating at least one visual identifier with a computer system component. A function module associates one or more control functions with the visual identifier. A monitoring module monitors the computer system component associated with the at least one identifier and modifies the identifier in response to a change in operational status for the computer system component.

Abstract: Predictive, multi-layer caching architectures may be used to predict which elements a user is most likely to navigate to within a collection of elements associated with a predefined layout and, in response, to increase the accessibility of these elements to a client device of the user. For instance, the techniques may utilize a predictive, multi-layer caching architecture for storing these predicted elements to decrease the latency to render these images if the user navigates within the collection of elements in the predicted manner. The collection of elements may comprise images (e.g., a 3D model, a map, etc.), video files, audio files, text files, or any other type of file that is consumable on a client device.

Abstract: A method, computer-readable medium, and apparatus are provided for browsing maps of events of various types that occurred on a piece of land on various dates. A map is displayed on a map interface that allows a user to navigate to other maps using different types of navigation that are triggered by different types of user input. A single instance of a first type of user input triggers display of another map of the same event type as a currently displayed map. A single instance of a second type of user input triggers display of another map that is chronologically adjacent to the currently displayed map, regardless of event type. Alternately, the second type of user input triggers skipping maps of the same event type to navigate to a map of a different event type. The maps each include a graphical representation of a measurement at a given location.

Abstract: A method for navigating information includes identifying a value for a property of a first object associated with one or more devices managed by a management system. The method includes displaying a first plurality of tiles for a plurality of objects, including the first object. A first of the tiles is associated with the first object and includes a display of a graphic associated with the object and the identified value for the property. The method includes identifying a plurality of related objects that are related to the first object and displaying a second plurality of tiles for the related objects in response to receiving a selection of the first tile for the first object. Additionally, the method includes displaying, in response to receiving a selection of a second tile in the second plurality of tiles for one of the related objects, information about the one related object.

Abstract: The subject invention provides a unique interactive system and method that facilitate single-handed navigation and interaction with applications within a display space on any type of mobile computing device. The system and method include or employ scalable application tiles corresponding to applications, whereby the application tiles can provide or indicate the current state of the corresponding application. The state information provided in each tile can vary as well depending on the current size of the tile. The tiles can be arranged into a plurality of zones such that a user can view one particular zone at a time and obtain more context and information from the application tiles in that zone rather than working with all tiles and all zones at the same time. The view of the display space can be of the world or all application tiles, zone, or application. Panning and zooming among the zones, application tiles and/or views can be performed single-handedly using designated on or off screen controls.

Abstract: An object including at least one element is moved on a document in which the object is arranged in response to an instruction from a user. In addition, if the object is moved to a boundary between two pages, at least one element that is included in the object and that corresponds to a break position of the two pages is detected. Abstract: Database information may be accessed through a user interface comprising one or more interactive treemaps. Each interactive treemap reflects a hierarchical structure of the stored information, for example parent and child nodes. By providing one type of input (e.g., a reverse finger pinch) to a sub-area of the treemap, the user may cause a different treemap to be displayed reflecting the hierarchical structure (grandchild nodes) of the sub-area. A treemap may also be manipulated by a user to provide additional detail. For example, by providing another type of input (e.g., a finger tap) to a treemap sub-area, a user may cause further information relevant to a child node to be displayed as a pop-up or as a separate detail screen. The treemap views of the interface provide a user with fluid and intuitive navigation upward/downward through the hierarchy, with detail screens allowing access to additional stored database information as desired.

Abstract: Navigation tools for an interface (e.g., a graphical user interface) are disclosed. In one aspect, a first stack item (e.g., a first directory) that includes one or more stack elements (e.g., subdirectories) is presented in the interface. User input selecting one of the one or more stack elements causes a scaled version of the first stack item (e.g., a smaller visual representation of the directory) and a second stack item (e.g., a selected subdirectory) that corresponds to the selected stack element to be presented in the interface. Selecting the scaled version of the first stack item causes the first stack item to be presented (e.g., a larger visual representation of the directory) in the interface.

Abstract: A method and system for providing a graphical user interface with contextual views. In various embodiments, the present invention provides a graphical user interface that allows the changing contents of a global menu in the graphical display based upon the selected nodes that belong to a hierarchical chart. Only those actions applicable (contextual) to the selected nodes will be determined and displayed in the menu. Accordingly, the contents of the selectable options are updated based upon the selected nodes. When more than one node is selected, the displayed selectable actions are an intersection of the actions permitted for each selected node. In a specific embodiment, a comparison menu is provided to allow the user to be able to compare unique corresponding properties of selected nodes.

Abstract: Embodiments of the invention relate to detecting items lists. In one embodiment, a web browsing interaction history of a user associated with a given web page is analyzed. The web browsing interaction history indicates that the user interacted with at least one element of the web page. A document object model (DOM) of the given web page is constructed. A node within the DOM corresponding to the element in the web page is identified based on analyzing the web browsing interaction history. An ancestor node of the node that corresponds to an item list within the web page comprising the element is identified based on at least a distribution of child tags of the ancestor node.

Abstract: A home key of a mobile device is utilized to activate a map object displayed in a virtual template area of the mobile device. The virtual template area is available on a display of the mobile device. The home key is utilized to set the home key as an object home for a user-defined starting place on the map object. Upon the object home being activated, the object home returns to the user-defined starting place on the map object.

Abstract: The present invention is directed to a method and system for providing a user interface representing organization hierarchy wherein a group of entities can be displayed as a node, and the node is displayed as a part of a hierarchical chart. In various embodiments, the present invention provides a graphical user interface displaying nodes that represent groups of entities, and the nodes are displayed as a part of a hierarchical chart based on the hierarchical relationship among the nodes that represent groups of entities. In various embodiments, a user is able to select actions for a group of entities displayed on the same node. Based on various criteria, nodes displaying one group of entities may, based on user selections of different grouping criteria, display a different group of entities. There are other features as well, in the graphical interface.

Abstract: Methods of and systems for entering ambiguous text input via a linear character selection display are provided. A system for entering an alphanumeric string includes presentation logic for displaying on a presentation device an alphabet arranged into a row of letters and indication logic for presenting visual cues grouping a series of letters of the row into a cluster. The system also includes navigation logic for receiving user actions to move the visual cues along the row of letters to change the letters grouped into the cluster. The visual cues move along the row of letters in variable offsets based on a rate of input of the user actions. The system further includes selection logic for receiving user actions to select the cluster of letters to cause at least one of the letters of the selected cluster to be displayed in a string field.

Abstract: Multi-layer user interfaces are provided. A user may traverse a hierarchy of information by accessing information in different branches of the hierarchy without having to traverse back up the current branch to access the new branch. A multi-layer user interface (UI) may comprise a set of UIs, each of which corresponds to a navigation layer and a level of the hierarchy. Each UI may comprise a set of UI controls that allow the user to traverse within a level or to a different level of the hierarchy. The UI controls may be configured such that a visual clue as a breadcrumb and user path history may also be provided.

Abstract: The present invention relates to a method for differentiating haptic feelings by a selection menu of a rotary switch, in which haptic feelings of the switch or rotary switch can be differentiated by each menu when scrolling the rotary switch in order to setup or select a variety of functions of an electronic product. Specifically, the haptic feelings by vibration and resistance against turning the switch are transferred to a user at different strengths when the user scroll-manipulates a switch to select a variety of menus, selects items of a first menu, transits first menu from the first menu to a second menu, and selects items of each second menu, so that the user can easily perceive the positions of the respective menus even without watching a cluster display window.

At least a first subset of the icons may represent logical elements of the system and wires between the first subset of icons may represent logical connections between corresponding logical elements. User input requesting signal routing information of the system may be received. In response, a signal route corresponding to a first logical connection between a first logical element and a second logical element may be visually indicated.

Abstract: Embodiments of the present invention address deficiencies of the art in respect to comparing artifacts and provide a novel and non-obvious method, system and computer program product for multi-contextual navigation of deltas in a hierarchy. In one embodiment of the invention, a method for multi-contextual navigation can include rendering objects for an artifact utilizing a default contextual view of the objects, selecting an object in the default contextual view and directing an inward navigation to a different object in the default contextual view. Notably, responsive to the directing of the inward navigation to the different object, a different contextual view can be provided for at least a portion of the objects defined by the different object.

Abstract: Methods for managing an interactive system, such as a web site, are disclosed. An interactive system can comprise a plurality of states, and a first structure of the interactive system can be defined by transitional links between those states. Session data can represent user navigation through the states, and a predetermined set of parameters for session data can be defined by the first structure of the interactive system. The method can include accessing a representation of the first structure of the interactive system, and analyzing the session data based on the predetermined set of parameters. A second structure for the interactive system can be determined when the first set of parameters are not met, such that as compared to the first structure, the second structure adds or removes a transitional link directly between the a first state of the interactive system and a second state of the interactive system.

Abstract: In one inventive aspect, a method of reactive targeted advertising provides for display of advertising, via the internet, to computers of users. In a particular example, a plurality of keywords are stored in a memory. The method comprises determining whether one or more of those keywords are used in a web page, and for any keywords determined to be used, an advertisement is selected using those keywords. The advertisement is for display on the computer of the user who is accessing the web page. A request is received for the selected advertisement, and the advertisement is provided, from an advertising server and over the internet, for display on the computer of the user.

Abstract: The present invention is directed to a method and system for designing a web portal or enterprise portal comprising a hierarchical structure of portal pages and portlets for accessing web content or enterprise content accessible via the portal. A method for modifying a given hierarchical navigation topology including nodes and edges connected between the nodes in a web application environment, in which topology a web page corresponds to a predetermined topology level and displays one or more applets, includes: providing a user interface for defining a user-specific topology, the defining including promoting a node within the topology to a higher level; demoting a node within the topology to a lower level; and moving a node within a page level; storing information for recovering a user-modified topology in a database; and displaying the user-modified topology to the user in response to the user specifying a predetermined node.

Abstract: The present invention discloses an air fan turbine positioned horizontally or vertically in close proximity to the exhaust fan system of air handler systems. These turbine units catch the exhausted air flow from the exhaust ports of these air handler units to drive the turbine blades which are attached to a generator. As the propellor blades spin, they generate electricity. Thus, the man made air flow known as exhaust from the air handler systems is used to produce electricity. This invention not only uses man made air flow, but also repositions the air turbine 90° from a horizontal position to a vertical position to receive wind air from the atmosphere. When the air handler unit is turned off, a signal is sent to mechanically move the air turbine to the vertical position to redirect itself to then catch natural wind airflow on both roof top and ground mounted units.

Abstract: A method for navigating among tracks uses limited input commands. A plurality of tracks is associated with a currently playing queue. One of the tracks in the queue is identified for a current focus. A voice command is received that includes a directional aspect and a metadata filtering aspect. In response, the focus moves to a second track having a different value for the selected metadata filtering category.

Abstract: Embodiments of the present invention address deficiencies of the art in respect to hierarchical tree file browsers and provide a method, system and computer program product for selectably flattening a hierarchical tree object structure in a hierarchical tree object browser. In one embodiment of the invention, a method of flattening an object hierarchy in an object browser can be provided. The method can include selecting a node in an object hierarchy in an object browser and, responsive to selecting the node, displaying content for the selected node and content for at least one node below the selected node in the object browser.

Abstract: There is disclosed an improved user interface for a network, for example the Internet. If a user clicks on an incorrect hyperlink then the system, instead of merely informing the user that an error (e.g. “404 Not Found” error—meaning that the requested web page is not available) has occurred, provides the user with a list (503) of hyperlinks to alternative web pages. The alternative web pages are related to the context of the web page that was originally requested by the user (but was not available, due to the incorrect hyperlink, to the user). In a preferred embodiment (300), the system analyzes a web page (201) (i.e. the web page that contained the incorrect hyperlink) for context information and uses the context information to improve the relevance to the user of the list (503). The system may also analyze other web pages for context information.

Abstract: A method and an apparatus for reminding and browsing related information of contacts, and a recording medium using the same are provided. In the present method, a communication device displays a contact list comprising at least one contact on a screen thereof. Meanwhile, the communication device checks whether each contact has unread related information and displays an indicating icon on the corresponding contact in the contact list when it is determined that the contact has related information unread, so as to remind a user of the communication device that the contact has unread related information.

Abstract: Functionality available on an enterprise server is applied to HTML content from a remote server. HTML content is collected from remote servers including remote markup tags upon request from an end user. The HTML content for the remote markup tags is parsed and converted to content formatted for enterprise server functionality. The converted content is executed at the enterprise server. Remote server and enterprise server data are then transmitted to the end user. Tags and/or libraries may be extensible, such that they may be created or modified, and the tags may or may not be included within a supplied library of tags and/or a created library of tags, or any combination thereof.
