Abstract: A method of displaying a user interface, comprising the steps of first obtaining a representation of the user interface. The representation includes conceptual components representing multi-dimensional arrays of elements of the user interface. The conceptual components include a vector parameter related to a multi-dimensional size of the array, and matrices having dimensions related to those of the array. The method proceeds by executing a device-specific rendering algorithm on the representation of the user interface and displaying the user interface on the device.

Abstract: A user interface of a computing system is personalized based on whether the computing system is used in a home environment, a business environment, etc. In one implementation, user interface content is stored that is defined for a plurality of consumer-usage environments, such as the home and business environment. The computing system identifies its consumer-usage environment, whether it is a home environment, a business environment, etc. The computing system then personalizes a user interface that is provided to a user based the environment in which it is being or will be used. To personalize the user interface, the computing system identifies the proper user interface content defined for the consumer-usage environment, and provides the user interface based on the proper user interface content.

Abstract: Methods and apparatuses are disclosed for displaying text on a communications device. One method controls a display using a Subscriber Identity Module application. The Subscriber Identity Module application specifies a duration for which text is displayed on the communications device. The duration specifies a time for which the text is displayed before clearing the text or until a user clears the text. The duration is defined by any attribute in the Subscriber Identity Module application. The attribute may comprise any command or data object, however, the attribute preferably comprises a “duration” data object for a DISPLAY TEXT command in the Subscriber Identity Module application.

Abstract: A system and method for making computer-generated maps includes a different scale factor for each road in a route. The scale factors are used to optimize the route map against a target function that considers factors such as the number of false intersections in the route and the number of roads falling below a minimum length threshold. A refinement technique such as simulated annealing is used to find a solution to the target function. Each road in the scaled map is rendered to provide a finished product having the appearance of a hand-drawn map. The finished product includes context roads that intersect the main route but are not part of the main route. Furthermore, the hand-drawn map is optimized to the characteristics of the viewport used to visualize the map.

Abstract: A method and system for modifying metadata of one or more media files via a drag and drop operation. A media library stores one or more media files. A graphical user interface displays the one or more media files in the media library via a display. The graphical user interface allows a user to select one or more media files from the media files being displayed. The user interface allows a user to drag and drop the one or more selected media files onto a property node that defines a property the user would like to incorporate into the metadata of one or more selected media files. Dropping the one or more selected media files onto the property node modifies the metadata of the media file to correspond to the property defined by the property onto which the one or more selected media files were dropped.

Abstract: An electronic device (130) uses a theme record (120) which defines themes desired for the electronic device. An example patriotic theme might call for red, white and blue screen colors. A processor compares the theme record (120) against at least components (140) of the electronic device to determine operation characteristics of the electronic device (130). The processor can execute a correlation process (133) to resolve conflicts among configurations. The theme records (120) can be shared among users of the portable devices.

Abstract: A method for selecting skinnable interfaces and a system for implementing the same. The method discloses accessing user specific information upon installation of an application on a computing resource. The computing resource is associated with a user that is associated with the user specific information. The method continues by associating the user with a selected selected skin from a plurality of user interface (UI) skins. The association between the user and the selected UI skin is based on the user specific information. Thereafter, the method continues by configuring the application to display the selected UI skin as a default UI skin for the application.

Abstract: An electronic paper device is disclosed for use by aircraft pilots and crew. The electronic paper device may include a communication interface that facilitates downloading of aviation-related documents, the aviation-related documents being and available for downloaded prior to each flight, a memory that stores the aviation-related documents, a user interface that facilitates access and use of the aviation-related documents by a user, and an electronic paper display that displays the aviation-related documents to the user in a manner that permits viewing in all lighting conditions.

Abstract: A system for providing an operator interface having a radar display comprises a memory and a processor. The memory stores trader designated requirements. The processor generates a radar display comprising a trader requirements block that corresponds to the trader designated requirements. The processor receives market data and performs the following for each trader designated requirement: determines a probability of the market data satisfying a trader designated requirement, and displays a market data circle on the radar display, where a distance between the market data circle and the trader requirements block indicates the probability.

Abstract: The generation and usage of workflows for processing data on a printing device includes receiving a request to create a workflow for a printing device. One or more operations that may be included in the workflow are displayed, and user-selection of at least one of the one or more operations is received. The user-selected operations are added to the workflow, and a user-selection of an order in which multiple ones of the user-selected operations are to be performed is received. When the creation of the workflow is completed, an indication of such is received and the workflow is saved. According to another aspect, a request to process data is received, the appropriate workflow identified, and the data processed by performing the operations in the sequence in an order identified by the sequence.

Abstract: The present invention relates to an adaptable user interface. The adaptable user interface provides a more error free input function as well as greater ease of use when being used during certain events such as while moving. A user interface in accordance with the principles of the present invention comprises a user input, at least one sensor, and a display unit functionally in communication with the at least one sensor and adapted to change its user interface input mode. The user interface is capable of adapting its user interface input in response to a stimulus sensed by the sensor.

Abstract: An interactive table has a display surface on which a physical object is disposed. A camera within the interactive table responds to infrared (IR) light reflected from the physical object enabling a location of the physical object on the display surface to be determined, so that the physical object appear part of a virtual environment displayed thereon. The physical object can be passive or active. An active object performs an active function, e.g., it can be self-propelled to move about on the display surface, or emit light or sound, or vibrate. The active object can be controlled by a user or the processor. The interactive table can project an image through a physical object on the display surface so the image appears part of the object. A virtual entity is preferably displayed at a position (and a size) to avoid visually interference with any physical object on the display surface.

Abstract: A computer based method visually highlights achievements of sports teams or players in displays of statistical data, such as statistical tables, that represent the performance of sports teams or players. The achievements to be highlighted may include multiple-game streaks and single-game achievements. Multiple-game streaks occur when a team or player meets a performance objective in multiple consecutive games. Such streaks are highlighted in displays of statistical data by visually emphasizing the data values that form the streak. Visual emphasis is achieved by, for example, displaying a visual indicator, such as a line, adjacent to the data values. A single-game achievement is highlighted by visually emphasizing the data value that represents the achievement, so that users can quickly identify single-game achievements in statistical tables. Details about the streak or achievement may be displayed when the user selects or passes a mouse pointer over one of the data values or over the visual indicator.

Abstract: An integrated display including a plurality of analog gauges concentrically arranged about a common center. Each analog gauge includes a pointer indicating a value of a parameter represented by the analog gauge. The integrated display is optionally semi-transparent and superimposed over a background view in a computer game, simulation, or other software application. The pointer and analog gauge may move relative to each other, or one may be fixed at an easily recognizable location while the other moves to indicate a current value of a parameter. This display can also be used on an electronic device to indicate a plurality of independent parameters in a minimal space.

Each graphical object is associated with a coordinate display and linking mechanism to access one or more data objects represented by the graphical object. Thus, a number of collections of data objects is represented graphically for quick access.

Abstract: The presentation of information in HTML files is desirably en hanced by the use of one or more separate scripting Javascript™ files, referenced from the HTML file, which uses information presented as variables in the HTML file. In this manner, a high degree of formatting flexibility can be achieved, while reducing the likelihood of errors in the HTML pages, improving ease of site maintenance, and standardising the “look and feel” of the site. Improvements in the network bandwidth required to browse sites organised in this manner can also be achieved in favourable instances.

Data representing each of a plurality of graphical elements that correspond to the received text data is then received. Selection data representing a selection of one of the graphical elements on the associated display is then received. Pointer data is then associated with the selected graphical element. The pointer data is further associated with the text data. Next, the selected graphical element is then displayed on the associated display in conjunction with the text data, as referenced by the pointer data.

Abstract: The subject application is directed to a system and method for generating a customized workflow user interface. Predetermined graphical user interface elements are first stored in an associated data storage. The graphical user interface elements are then generated on an associated display. Each graphical user interface element is then associated with an abstraction interface. Selection data is then received corresponding to selected graphical user interface elements. User interface data is thereafter generated in accordance with the selection data and the associated abstraction interface. Workflow data is subsequently output representing document processing operations corresponding to the selected graphical user interface elements. Thereafter, the workflow data is communicated to an associated document processing device.

Abstract: A data system user interface that can employ different data collection renderers (e.g., views) based on an attribute of the content of a view-set (e.g., list, folder, directory) is provided. In accordance with aspects of the subject invention, views that are suitable to present certain types of content can be automatically selected. This automatic selection can employ the use of more specialized, optimized views based on the content of the view-set. The contents of the view-set can be analyzed and matched against an extensible set of view selection rules. It will be understood that, although the custom view can have a completely different visual appearance from the standard, default and/or generic view, the subject invention enables custom views to run within the same window as the standard view.

Abstract: A touch screen device and a method of operation are provided. The device and method allow for scrolling and selection of files from a file list, and for skipping or reversing an execution order of the selected files simply by performing a drag on a touch screen. The method of selecting files on the touch screen device includes detecting a diagonal drag on a screen, selecting file(s) included within a corresponding range, and skipping file(s) within the range. The method may also include changing an execution order of the selected file(s) when a drag with a return trajectory is detected. The method may also include scrolling through the file list in accordance with a direction and speed of the drag. The device and method allows a plurality of files to be selected and skipped at a time, and a desired file to be rapidly and easily located.

Abstract: A Web client/Web server computer system providing a methodology for embedding a context-sensitive Web portal in a computer application operating on the Web client is described. A special key tag type is defined to be monitored by the application, so that the server may control the application, where the special key tag type includes an embedded tag specifying hypertext navigation and includes auxiliary information. The server publishes to the application a Web page having at least one of the special key tags, so that the Web page is displayed at the application. In response to a user request for invoking a particular hypertext link of the published Web page, the application traps the request before the request is processed by the embedded browser. The application may determine whether the invoked hypertext link comprises a special key tag. If the hypertext link does not comprise a special key tag, the application simply passes the hypertext link to the embedded browser for processing.

Abstract: A method and user interface are provided for independently and conveniently scaling y-values of multiple data sets whereby the data sets may be plotted against a common y-axis and provide satisfactory variability. A multiplier is selected by which data points in a data set are multiplied, allowing plots of multiple data sets to be graphed against a common range of y-axis values. The initial multiplier may be calculated and selected automatically by the computer on which the graphing is performed or may be manually selected by a user. If the results of the graphing are not satisfactory to the user, the user may change the multiplier for any data set. A spin button may be provided to enable the user to easily increment or decrement a multiplier in predefined steps, such as by factors of 10. Additionally, a computer-generated indicator may be displayed to assist the user in selecting a different multiplier.

In general, this is a multiple-mode window presentation system and process that displays one or more of the peripheral graphic user interface (GUI) elements typically displayed on the display screen in addition to a window, such as the frame and title bar of the window and any task bar or side bar, in a first appearance mode when the window is maximized. However, when the window is displayed in a less-than-maximized size, one or more of the peripheral GUI elements are displayed in a second appearance mode which is substantially different from the first. In general the second appearance mode is designed to attract the attention of a user to the peripheral GUI elements, while the first mode is designed to avoid distracting the user from the content of the maximized window.

Abstract: A smart card personalization system maintains a database containing card issuer data format templates, card applications, card operating system commands, and personalization equipment specifications and provides a centralized interface of inputs and outputs to a card issuing process which dynamically adjusts to changes in the issuing process to easily permit a card issuer to change data formats, card applications, card operating systems and/or personalization equipment in a card issuing process. The system interfaces to any card issuer management system, manages the transfer of cardholder data and card applications to the particular personalization equipment used, and maintains statistics for real-time and off-line inquiries to support critical management and reporting functions. Furthermore, the system works with a variety of security methodologies to prevent fraud.

Abstract: To allow users to compensate for different and dynamically changing lighting conditions, the present invention introduces a graphical user interface shading system. The graphical user interface shading system provides a very simple intuitive interface to the user. In one embodiment, the user is presented with an adjustable user interface widget such as a slider that allows the user to select any shading setting along a shading continuum. The graphical user interface shading system reacts to the users control by adjusting a number of different graphical user interface elements in response to the new shading setting. In one embodiment, the graphical user interface shading system adjusts singled colored areas with a linear interpolation, text with a font color selection, icons with an icon bitmap selection, textured areas with a texture blend, and decals with a decal blend.

Content that is associated with the channels is selected and viewed on a display of the device by means of passive interaction when the device is in a glance-view operating state. The device periodically changes the display according to a playlist that indexes selected channel views associated with the current channel. The selected channel views are selected from the available channels according to a rule set that is associated with the channel. After every item in the playlist is processed, the playlist is updated according to application of the rule set. A customized channel may include references to other channels such that channel views associated with the customized channel correspond to channel views from other channels.

Abstract: A method and system are provided in which static lists facilitate arbitrary grouping of items of data independent of their locations and in ways that are meaningful to the user. A static list is a set of items defined by a root item, a direction, and the entry relationships with that root item in that direction. The static list also defines the properties that each entry relationship in the list is required to have. Verbs are provided to manage a static list. A verb is an action that may be performed on the items in the static list, and includes, among others, move, copy, add, remove, and delete. A view is provided to specify characteristics for displaying data from a static list, including visibility, order, and formatting, among other characteristics.

Abstract: The present invention is directed to a system and method for evaluating verification of data by an operator. The data is presented to the operator on a computer-controlled display and a time duration is measured over which the operator interacts with the display in verifying the presented data. The time duration is indicative of the reliability of the verification of the data by the operator.

Abstract: The present invention relates to a device and method for displaying various menus of a microwave oven onto one screen. In the present invention, the various menus can be displayed onto one screen by using a tree structure or window structure. To this end, display control data are stored such that the various menus can be displayed in the form of the tree structure or display window. These display control data are stored in a separately provided storage device. According to the present invention constructed as such, since the user can confirm the various functions of the microwave oven on the same screen at one time, there is an advantage in that trials and errors made when using the microwave oven can be minimized. In addition, since all the functions can be confirmed simultaneously, there are further advantages in that the time required for learning how to use the microwave oven is reduced and function selection can be conveniently made.

Abstract: An extensible base process control and manufacturing information application development and execution software suite is disclosed that facilitates streamlined third party (e.g., OEM) development of derivative applications for particular vertical markets. The suite includes an object design toolkit that provides object template derivation tools for accessing and editing a set of base object templates. The objects derivable from the base templates include at least application objects deployed upon lower level hosting component objects of a supervisory process control and manufacturing information application. The toolkit also includes development tools for creating new base object templates that are added as extensions of the set of base object templates. In addition to the toolkit, the suite includes a set of marketing package customization tools facilitating seamlessly integrating changes by developers to the extensible base development and execution software suite.
