  • Patent number: 10603702
Abstract: A method for producing a metal sheet with raised lines uses a rolling mill including roll stands. In a preparing step, a grooved roll is prepared, the grooved roll including grooves. In a choosing step, a stand at least one stage before the last stand is chosen. In an incorporating step, the grooved roll is incorporated in as an upper roll of the chosen, specified stand. In a forming step, a workpiece is formed into a metal sheet with raised lines formed corresponding to the respective grooves. In the forming step, a maximum rolling reduction achieved by rolls of the specified stand is set to a provisional value that is lower than a required value. After the leading edge of the workpiece reaches the stand next to the specified stand, the maximum rolling reduction of the specified stand is changed to the required value.

The edge cutters (14) and the roll-forming units (17-24) are individually controlled. The formed profile is curved in a curving station integrated into the line, which curving station comprises roller pairs (82, 84; 83, 85) that can be controlled to roll sides of the profile (50) such that they become thinner such that the profile is curved or twisted as it is formed.

Abstract: Method and Apparatus for fabricating a spacer frame for use in an insulating glass unit. A roll former bends a strip of material to form a spacer frame having side walls to which an adhesive is applied during fabrication of an insulated glass unit. Alternately a plastic frame is formed by extrusion. A notching apparatus forms notches at locations that extend into the side walls to weaken the side walls for bending of said elongated channel into a closed structure. A downstream workstation predisposes specified locations of the sidewalls to facilitate bending of the spacer frame. The workstation forces the specified locations of the sidewalls inwardly toward each other at the predetermined bend locations.

Abstract: A forming apparatus (50) includes a roll former (51) operative to roll form a metal strip (100) to form a profiled metal section (10) of generally C section profile including a pan (12) and a pair of upstanding edge margins (14 and 16). The section profile incorporates a longitudinal precamber which is introduced by the forming apparatus by incorporating a prestretching apparatus (52) upstream from the roll former (51), and a bending apparatus (53) located downstream of the roll former (51). The prestretching apparatus differentially stretches the metal strip (100) in its longitudinal direction so as to form portions (101, 102), which are more elongated than a laterally adjacent portion (103) of the strip (100). The differential stretching compensates for longitudinal shortening of the metal strip in forming the profiled section in the roll former (51). The bending apparatus (53) uses a (3) point bending process and includes a reaction stage (60), a fulcrum stage (61), and an action stage (62).

  • Patent number: 6705145
Abstract: A metal material is rolled to form a strip plate material having a middle part and thinner thickness-deviation portions on both sides of the middle part. After that, this strip plate material is bent and deformed in its width direction by roll forming, thus forming a bent and deformed portion in the middle part. The processing method includes a rolling step and a roll forming step, which enables the metal material to be processed economically using relatively simple steps. No annealing step is included and therefore an excellent final product is obtained. Particularly, the rolling step and the roll forming step are carried out successively, so that the roll forming can be carried out with high efficiency using processing heat generated in the rolling step. The bent and deformed portion is thick and the thickness-deviation portions are thinner, which contributes to the reduction in weight of a final product while the same strength as that of a conventional product is maintained.
