  • Patent number: 8646303
Abstract: A method for the manufacture of a profile having a cross-section of different thicknesses from a flat metal strip is provided. In this process, a roller pair produces at least one first recess on at least one side of the metal strip, the recess being widened by following roller pairs with incrementally enlarged recess width to form a region with a reduced material thickness. The aim of the invention is to improve the production process, in particular to avoid the formation of undulations during the production of the profile. For this purpose, the invention provides that regions of the flat metal strip which are arranged adjacent to the at least one recess are bent up before and/or during an engagement of a roller pair.

  • Patent number: 5682782
Abstract: A punch press is provided with a tool bearing a workpiece-deforming roller, the tool being received in an aperture in the press for movement between a lower position in which the roller comes into deforming contact with a workpiece supported on a surface and a raised position out of deforming contact with the workpiece. Elongated deformations may be formed in a workpiece by translating the workpiece horizontally along the surface while the roller is in its lower position. A coacting roller may be provided beneath the workpiece so that the rollers come into deforming contact with opposite sides of the workpiece to deform it as the workpiece is translated between the rollers.

  • Patent number: 5575168
Abstract: A self-locking workpiece-deforming tool for use in mechanical punch presses in which the ram cannot maintain continuous pressure against the tool in a depressed position. The tool includes an elongated punch guide having an interior surface defining a chamber extending therethrough. A punch body having upper and lower segments is partially received within the chamber for reciprocable axial movement with respect to the guide between raised and depressed positions. A lower segment of the punch body carries a rotatable workpiece-deforming roller. The punch assembly includes a positioning device for sustaining the body and the roller in a depressed position without requiring the ram of the press to exert continuous downward pressure on the tool. The positioning means locks the body in the roller in the depressed position upon a momentary strike by the ram, and releases the body and roller upon subsequent momentary strike by the ram.

  • Patent number: 5269205
Abstract: A circular saw blade straightening machine for eliminating unevenness in circular saw blades is disclosed, having straightening rollers disposed on both sides of the saw blade. The rollers are disposed opposite one another on a straight line passing through the middle of the saw blade. A feeler gauge is provided to scan the surface of the saw blade and to generate a signal in the event of unevenness being detected to initiate an appropriate movement of the straightening rollers.

  • Patent number: 5107695
Abstract: The apparatus comprises a pair of rotatable devices (9,11) each holding a plurality of metal shaping and/or cutting rollers (17,19;127), the rollers of one device meshing with rollers of the other device to produce specific designs or widths of material. This is made possible by merely selecting suitable rollers of both sets and when production of a specific metallic section or desired widths are terminated, other rollers are selected by rotating the rotatable devices, if another metallic section or widths are desired. When suitable rollers (17,19:127) have been selected they are locked in operating position and the operation is allowed to proceed by feeding metal strip to the machine. When another design or widths are required, the devices are unlocked, a selection is made, and the devices are again locked to produce the new metallic section or widths of material.

  • Patent number: 4977769
Abstract: A rolling mill wherein the frame or frames for pairs of superimposed rolling tools can be lifted off the base by a crane. Each rolling tool carries a first clutch element receiving torque from a separable discrete second clutch element on a support which is adjacent a properly installed frame. The support is mounted on a reciprocable carriage, together with or independently of a drive for the second clutch elements, and can be moved in the axial direction of the tools toward and away from the adjacent frame. The upper second clutch element of the pair of second clutch elements on the support is movable up and down by a fluid-operated motor toward and away from a position of alignment with the corresponding first clutch element. The second clutch elements have pins which enter registering sockets in the adjacent first clutch elements, or vice versa, and the second clutch elements are axially movably mounted in their bearings on the support and are biased toward the respective first clutch elements.

  • Patent number: 4790166
Abstract: A round collar maker having as one of its sections a conventional combination rotary machine, the collar maker having a pair of rollers on axles of the machine and having a guide provided with a cylindrical circumference which latter is arranged about an axis offset to one side of the axes of the shafts. The guide has an exterior portion having a cylindrical exterior rotating about a guide support which is cylindrical and horizontally elongated. The support is held on a support carrier which is attachable to the spindle of the machine. The rollers are reversible and are shaped so as to be useable, also, as rollers for a seam lock spreader which uses the same combination rotary machine as one of its sections.

  • Patent number: 4776194
Abstract: A pipe mill and method comprises certain improvements in pipe mills of cage-type. Edge forming roll sets, usually mounted immediately downstream of the breakdown passes, are mounted for lateral movement to compensate for strip camber or lateral creep. In one form of the invention the edge forming rolls are adjustably fixed with respect to each other on a mounting plate which is suspended on a pivot. Movement of the edge forming rolls from side-to-side about the pivot is obtained by power steering each edge forming roll housing with the steering pivot located at the center of pressure of the edge forming roll set. The steering is controlled by a closed loop system utilizing sensors with a microprocessor. A taper pin lock holds the plate centered and against movement for threading purposes. Side push cylinder assemblies may be employed to center the plate for locking.

  • Patent number: 4689261
Abstract: The present invention relates to rounded corrugated sheeting (4) whose profile exhibits crest portions (5), flanks (6), and bottom portions (7). The crest portions (5) are located on the concave side of the rounded sheet and are provided with grooves formed by pressing during rounding of the sheeting. The grooves form ribs (10) on the convex side of the sheet. In the rounding of the sheet, the material present in the crest-portions (5) of the sheet (4) is distributed in a manner which facilitates rounding and counteracts the formation of folds or wrinkles in the crest portions (5), and prevents other forms of damage.

  • Patent number: 4660399
Abstract: A mobile roll-forming machine for shaping of metal panels used, for example, in building construction, roofing and the like. The machine may be easily transported to the construction site for on-site formation of metal panels, and supports a roll of sheet metal from which the panels are to be formed. The machine (10) comprises a main frame (11) to which a metal roll-forming head assembly (13) is removably secured, whereby different head assemblies may be quickly and easily substituted on the main frame for forming different shapes in the metal panels. The head assembly (13) may also be elevated to an inclined position relative to the main frame for matching the pitch of a surface being covered with the metal panels, whereby the panels may be fed directly from the machine onto the surface. The machine further includes a shear blade (36) for cutting the metal panels to any desired length, and slicing wheels (68) for cutting the panels to desired width.
