With Cooperating Rectilinearly-moving Tool (e.g., "anvil") Patents (Class 72/192)
  • Publication number: 20140318204
Abstract: A rotary stamper includes an upper die plate assembly, a lower die plate assembly, and a support frame having a drive assembly that moves the upper die plate horizontally and vertically along a generally circular pathway while moving the lower die plate along a linear horizontal pathway. The upper die plate is vertically slidably connected to the lower die plate by way of one or more vertical rods that extend from the lower die plate assembly up through the upper die plate. In operation, the lower die plate matches the horizontal movements of the upper die plate as the latter is moved along its circular pathway. Concurrently, the upper die plate moves towards and away from the lower die plate. This maintains a substantially constant alignment between the die plates for carrying out a periodic machining operation on a moving web of material passing there between.

  • Patent number: 8291742
Abstract: A method for producing a structured sheet-metal strip includes feeding a smooth sheet-metal strip to a shaping apparatus along a guiding direction. A primary structure is produced in the smooth sheet-metal strip through the use of the shaping apparatus, during which a number of separate shaping tools act upon the sheet-metal strip in a manner that is substantially perpendicular to the guiding direction. An apparatus for producing a structured sheet-metal strip can produce the structured sheet-metal strips with a particularly low ratio of corrugation length to corrugation height. Such structured sheet-metal strips are used, in particular, for producing purification components in mobile exhaust gas systems.

  • Patent number: 7343769
Abstract: A corrugation forming apparatus includes, as forming members, a rack tool assembled to a slide table and a pinion tool which rotates with rotation of a shaft. The apparatus also includes, as a displacement synchronization mechanism, a feed rack integrally assembled to the table and a feed pinion gear in meshing engagement with the feed rack. When a handle is rotated, its rotational force is transmitted to the feed rack via the feed pinion gear, so that the rack tool moves along the axial direction, and the pinion tool rotates in synchronism with the movement of the rack tool. This enables forming of successive recesses and projections on the thin metal plate, while reducing ductile cracks and warpage.

  • Patent number: 7047782
Abstract: A die roll 3 comprises a core part 3a which is formed of an elastic material and faces a punch part 2a of a punch roll 2. The core part 3a presses a bottom portion 4b of a drawn portion 4a of a metal material 4 and is separate from a surrounding die part 3b and is provided with a space 3c at the whole outer periphery of the core part 3a. In accordance with the above configuration, swelling is suppressed at the bottom portion 4b of the drawn portion 4a and production of large wrinkles, which is a reason for folds, can be prevented by increase of pressing areas for preventing wrinkles at both sides of the drawn portion.

  • Patent number: 7024752
Abstract: A crimping press has a tool receptacle arranged at a lower end of a pressing slider provided with a force-sensing device. The forces arising during the crimping operation are transmitted from the supporting surfaces of an upper tool to several points on the force-sensing device. Provided on each side of an upper fork and held by screws are two collars to which are transmitted, the crimping forces on either side of the supporting surface. With their heads, the screws hold the collars, while with their other ends the screws are engaged with the pressing slider. The collars transmit the crimping forces to the sensor elements of the force-sensing device.

  • Publication number: 20040221635
Abstract: A method is described for producing strip-shaped input stock, especially from metal, which is profiled in subsequent sections either on one side or on both sides, by rolling a metal strip in one or more rolling steps. The method is characterized by carrying out the following steps: (a) tensioning the metal strip (16), (b) positioning the metal strip (16) in a rolling gap (13) that is defined by a roller (12) and a movable plate (67) relative the roller (12), and (c) positioning the plate (67) relative the roller (12). Steps (b) and (c) are successively or simultaneously carried out or are carried out in a timewise overlapping manner or in a successive inverse order, and step (c) can also be carried out before step (a).

  • Patent number: 5722281
Abstract: An automobile steering rack manufacturing apparatus has a material clamp for holding a hollow pipe-like rack material that has a solid core bar inserted therein. A forming roll on the apparatus has an outer periphery with rack teeth formed thereon, while a material drive causes a mutual rolling of the material clamp and the forming roll, thereby cutting rack teeth into the material. The clamp moves in the tangential direction of the forming roll orientation, and a tooth depth controller controls the distance between the rack material held in the material clamp, and the forming roll.

  • Patent number: 5197318
Abstract: Apparatus for forming fins along a web of metallic material utilizing first and second opposed endless chains, and with the first chain adapted to support the web of metallic material thereon, and comprising a plurality of spaced-apart anvil links. The upper chain includes a plurality of spaced-apart links operating in registry with the base chain and including work-engaging, fin-forming lugs which enter the gap between mutually adjacent anvil links. The apparatus further includes a chain-deflecting idler roll which deflects the base chain arcuately away from its normal plane so as to effectively reduce the spacing between adjacent anvil links and create a web back-breaking zone for achieving a firm and solid crimping of that portion of the web forced thereinto by the fin-forming lugs.
