  • Patent number: 5724847
Abstract: Apparatus for feeding and optionally drawing wire to a forging machine or the like. The apparatus is a compact unit that conserves floor space and offers manufacturing economies by permitting the use of common components whether or not the optional drawing feature is selected. Large hydraulic clamping forces for wire drawing operation are developed by a relatively large piston and cylinder that operates mechanically through a relatively small piston and cylinder. The relatively small piston and cylinder enables the apparatus to quickly grip and release wire stock to achieve high machine speeds. When the draw option is not selected, the relatively large piston and cylinder are not supplied, but otherwise most of the same components including the small high speed piston and cylinder are retained to reduce the number of different parts used in the manufacture of the apparatus.

  • Patent number: 5709120
Abstract: A drawing device which may be vertically or horizontally disposed in operation has a single rigid formed or extruded length as a bed. To one end of the bed is affixed a manual winch using a belt for applying tension to the workpiece. The belt is affixed to the upper end of a draw block with a lower end pivoted to two inverted lateral link arms each extending outward with an incline upwards to one distal end of the two straight, non-crossing jaw arms. The tension applied to the draw block is translated by the inverted lateral link arms into force directed outward upon the distal ends of the jaw arms which closes the jaws. The mechanical leverage obtained allows a reduction in overall length and weight of the draw tongs. Between the draw block and a stop bracket to which the jaws are pivoted, a stop bolt extends with a spring about it in compression biasing the jaws shut and facilitating manual loading of the workpiece.

  • Patent number: 5255551
Abstract: A motorized wire-drawing machine for manufacturing precious metal wire. A clasp plate is slidably supported by two support rods extending from the draw plate support block to a motor support block. Mounted parallel to the support rods and passing through a threaded hole in the clasp plate with threads matching the threaded rod is a threaded rod. Thus, when the threaded rod is rotated, the clasp plate moves longitudinally on the support rods and the threaded rod. The threaded rod passes through a hole in the motor support block to a motor drive shaft, connected to the shaft by means of an adjustable shaft that drives the threaded rod under normal resistive load from the wire but slides, disengaging the motor from the threaded rod, during high resistive loads. The clutch is adjustable to accommodate wire of various sizes and materials.

  • Patent number: 5247822
Abstract: Containers of explosive liquids can be prevented from exploding by filling the containers with meshes made from metal foil which occupies a negligible fraction of the volume of the container although it must completely fill the container. In order to refill the containers, the rib mesh (1) must consist of sufficiently small, spherical bodies (24). The invention also deals with the production of these filling bodies (24) from aluminum strip expanded into a mesh. The aluminum strip is first passed through a calibration opening (4) which compacts it into a bar (2) of circular cross-section which is then compacted perpendicularly to its length and continuously transported in the longitudinal direction as it is being squeezed. The front piece of the bar is then detached and pressed in a mould with a hemispherical bottom (21) by a die with the same inner contour to form a spherical filling body.

  • Patent number: 4879892
Abstract: A continuous drawing machine for drawing elongated material through a die has two drawing carriages each with one pair of jaws to grip the wire. The jaws are wedge-shaped and mounted on their rear side in oblique supports. Once in operation they are self-gripping. A linkage system, comprising an arm extending from each carriage and two cam curves on the machine-frame, controls the initial grip of the jaws on the wire. The two cam curves are formed by an oscillating tongue articulated on the machine frame next to the starting position of the carriage. The arm has a follower-roll that follows the first cam curve and thus clamps the wire. During the return of the carriage the tongue with the two cam curves thereon is pushed away by the follower-roll rolling or sliding with its face along the second cam curve. The tongue snaps back by means of a spring as soon as the follower-roll has passed and again offers the first cam curve to the follower-roll after the reversal of the carriage's moving direction.

  • Patent number: 4566298

In operation a tie bar (39) fixed to the part (31) carrying the clamping grippers for the extrusion profiles acts in the direction of pull on a force detector (34) fixed to the other part (30) which is arranged at a cantilever (13) of a carriage. In this manner the pull prevailing in operation and being transmitted by the puller to the extrusion profiles can be sensed reliably and accurately under any operating conditions.

  • Patent number: 4291565
Abstract: A programmable and self synchronizing wire drawing device includes a stationary sleeve member having a bore. A work cylinder having an end cap piston at each end is axially reciprocable in the bore. The piston diameters equal the diameter of the bore and the cylinder diameter is less than that of the bore so the wall of the bore and the outside of the work cylinder define an annular air space that is closed at its ends by the pistons. An annulus is fixed within the annular space between the pistons. A wire gripper is supported from one piston at a distance therefrom. A hydraulic piston is reciprocable within the work cylinder and it is on a tubular piston rod which extends slideably and sealingly through the end cap pistons. A wire drawing die is mounted on the end of the piston rod which is nearest the gripper. The hydraulic and air driven pistons cooperate to draw wire and feed segments of it to a consuming machine.
