Abstract: Arcuately curved cultivator shanks carrying ground working tools often become partially straightened or the attaching portion becomes bent due to the ground working tool engaging obstructions such as a root, rock or the like. Due to the resiliency thereof, they are difficult to re-shape to the original contours or specifications. The present device includes firstly, a vertical standard having a cross pin at the upper end thereof under which the hooked attaching end may be engaged. The distal end, which is apertured to receive the ground working tool, is engaged by a jack underneath the standard and a sliding member engages within the standard and is engaged by the distal end of the shank so that when the jack is extended, the arcuately curved portion is re-shaped to the original contours.
Abstract: A gripping head (2) of a sheet stretcher has a centering device (4) for centering a sheet (1) to be stretched in the middle of the gripping head (2) before the sheet is gripped and stretched. The centering device comprises two centering arms (5) which move with their edges towards the longitudinal sides of the sheet and are synchronously displaced in opposite directions and at right angles to the axis of stretching. In order to facilitate optimum gripping of the sheet automatically, guide rods (9) having engaging members (10) sliding thereon are provided on the centering arms (5) and extend parallel to the axis of stretching. The ends of the engaging members (10) have stops (14), against which the front end of the sheet (1) bears when fully inserted. A distance-measuring device (18), is provided on the centering arm (5) and has a cable drum (22) and a potentiometer (20) on the same shaft (21). The end of the cable is secured to the engaging member ( 10).
Abstract: A clamping apparatus for a metal sheet stretching machine is provided with hydraulically operated connecting rods for closing the clamping jaws onto the sheet metal. The rods transmit only compressive forces and are retracted after the tightening of the clamping jaws during stretching. Pulling cables serve to selectively open the clamping jaws.
Abstract: A constant velocity joint adapted to transmit rotary motion from a driving shaft to a driven shaft at the same angular velocity comprises, for example, an outer joint member 10 associated with the driving shaft 1, an inner joint member 20 associated with the driven shaft 2 and a plurality of ball elements 3 interposed between these joint members with a cage member therebetween. The inner member 20 has an outer spherical surface 22, and a plurality of circumferentially distributed ball grooves 21 each having its groove bottom drawing a curved or arcuate line whose curvature center is located at a point B axially apart from the curvature center 0 of the outer spherical surface as viewed in axial section. The inner member is formed through two steps of forming works consisting of a first step for providing the ball grooves and the outer peripheral surface finished to the respective shapes as desired with respect to substantially a half l.sub.
Abstract: A tube coil of austenitic or ferritic material is bent into a coil with a steep pitch by clamping the end of the tube section to be bent in clamps located at the ends of two radial arms of the bending apparatus. One arm is then pulled away from the other arm to cause the clamped ends to displace relative to each other while a steeper pitch is imparted. The pulled arm is free to rotate while the clamps are free to pivot in planes tangential to the tube coils. In one embodiment, the clamps can also move radially of the supporting arm.
Abstract: This disclosure describes a device and method for in situ shortening of nuclear reactor zirconium alloy process tubes which have grown as a result of radiation exposure. An upsetting technique is utilized which involves inductively heating a short band of a process tube with simultaneous application of an axial load sufficient to cause upsetting with an attendant decrease in length of the process tube.

Abstract: Apparatus for preparing two tubes to be welded together at their ends and for placing the ends in opposed, abutting relationship for welding. The apparatus includes means for annealing a portion or length of each tube, and means for stretching the portion or length of each tube for straightening purposes after it is annealed. In addition, the apparatus includes means for severing an end portion of the annealed length of each tube to provide two annealed tube ends for abutting and welding together. Further, the apparatus includes means for forcing the abutting ends of the tubes together in a manner that will upset the material of the tube ends during welding.

Abstract: A method of manufacturing a high fin density heat dissipator is disclosed in which the dissipator is extruded through a die in a partially cylindrical shape with the elongated fins arranged on the base and extending radially therefrom. The extruded dissipator is straightened under tensile and bumping forces in a manner such that the base assumes a planar shape and the fins become substantially parallel to each other. Apparatus for straightening the extruded dissipator and a die for extruding the same are illustrated and described.
Abstract: An apparatus for stretching an extruded length of metal comprises a plurality of sets of tailstock jaws mounted at fixed positions in line with and spaced from each other, and a set of headstock jaws mounted in line with the sets of tailstock jaws and movable towards and away from the sets of tailstock jaws by a motor. The sets of tailstock jaws are individually controlled by respective sensors which when energized emit a signal in response to the presence of the trailing end of an extruded length of metal travelling past the sets of tailstock jaws, and the sensor signal actuates closure of the associated tailstock jaws on the trailing end of the extruded length.
Abstract: An apparatus and method for providing an electrical contact with a tip portion substantially free of burrs during the manufacture of said contact. The strip from which the contact is produced is positively engaged at two separate but adjacent locations, heat is applied to a third location between the two, and the two adjacent locations separated a pre-established distance until the third location becomes severed.

Abstract: A process of manufacture to produce low cost pressure vessels from a length of metal tubing by use of localized heat and/or axial tensile force to shrink the diameter of the tubing at selected locations of a predetermined starting length approximately one diameter long and many diameters apart to permit subsequent separation to form open-ended pressure vessels. Subsequent conventional swaging operations could thicken and reduce the end diameters so they can be threaded.
