Publication number: 20080236234Abstract: The invention is a rotary draw bending machine and process for bending materials such as tubes or pipes into precise bends. A spindle holds a bending die, and a radial arm holds a counter-die. The spindle and arm are simultaneously rotated in opposite directions by a dual hydraulic drive controlled by an electro-hydraulic control system with foot pedal controls. The bend angle is preset by a protractor-like dial and limit switch mechanism. The radial arm has a slide track to align the counter-die with the bending die. The ratchet mechanism has teeth to allow incremental advancement of the counter-die when aligning it with its bending die to accurately set the gap between the dies. The machine is used with a wide variety of dies to bend a wide variety of workpiece diameters. Patent number: 6550303Abstract: A die assembly for machines used to bend lengths of pipe for pipeline applications. The die assembly includes three major components, an exterior housing, a flexible die, and an eggcrate assembly. The exterior housing encompasses the flexible die and eggcrate assembly and pins into conventional bending machines. The flexible die includes a plurality of narrow plate segments positioned along a pair of tie rods. The plate segments are free floating and spaced so as to converge or diverge with respect to the direction of flex of the tie rods. The eggcrate assembly provides support for a plurality of spring plates. Each spring plate has a radius of curvature consistent with the amount of desired bend in the length of pipe.Type: GrantFiled: January 26, 2001Date of Patent: April 22, 2003Assignee: Dieco Manufacturing, Inc.Inventors: John Allen Rogers, Robert W. Patent number: 6520121Abstract: A bendable hard type water tube includes a first tube with one end installed with a first seat, a second tube having one end installed with a second seat, a first buckle, a second buckle, a rotary shaft installed between the second buckle and the first buckle, a third buckle, an elastic body. The outer sides of the first buckle, second buckle, and third buckle are formed with a plurality of teeth. A resisting portion is installed on the press and resists against the third buckle. When a force is applied to the press, the angle between the first tube and second tube can be changed. When the press is released, the first tube is buckled with the second tube so as to change the direction of water flow to match the requirement of spraying water.Type: GrantFiled: December 10, 2001Date of Patent: February 18, 2003Inventor: Gordon Chih

Publication number: 20030005741Abstract: A method for bending a rigid pipe to accomplish a centerline radius less than or equal to the outside diameter of the pipe. Moreover, the method accomplishes such a bend whereby the wall thickness of the pipe on the outermost portion of the wall of the pipe is substantially maintained, as is the inside diameter throughout the bend of the pipe. The pipe bend is accomplished by first determining the desired angle of bend and the desired centerline radius. The arc length of the outermost portion of the pipe is then determined. The height and width of each corrugation is then selected in order to determine the length of the outer surface of each corrugation. The arc length is then divided by the corrugation length to determine the number of corrugations required to accomplish the desired bend. The pipe is then deformed to define the required number of corrugations having the determined height and width. After forming the corrugations, the pipe is bent through the selected degree of the bend.Type: ApplicationFiled: April 11, 2001Publication date: January 9, 2003Inventor: Michael J. Sayler

Publication number: 20020129636Abstract: An apparatus and a method for manufacturing a thick-walled bent pipe with a simple structure at low production cost, which has durability and can manufacture an elbow material for piping with higher size accuracy, are provided. For this purpose, the manufacturing apparatus is a manufacturing apparatus comprising a presser die (12) and a lower die (20), in which the lower die (20) includes a pair of bottom dies (21, 22) having meshing means (30), and a pair of the bottom dies (21, 22) are allowed to rotate opposite to each other by the meshing means (30), in connection with a descent of the presser die.Type: ApplicationFiled: November 16, 2001Publication date: September 19, 2002Applicant: TOKIWA SEIKI CO., LTD.Inventors: Yoichi Kimura, Hiroyasu Fukushima

Patent number: 6438442Abstract: A method for automatic conducting of a straightening process for an object to be straightened, such as sheet metal, strips, sections, pipes, and in particular for wire-like or multiwire-like objects that are to be straightened, in a straightening device or a levelling machine with at least one mangle roll which can be adjusted by an actuator. In accordance with this invention, a process simulation model of a straightening process that is to be conducted, and a process simulation program are set up, and the latter gives directly “online” the settings of the adjustable mangle rolls.Type: GrantFiled: June 21, 1999Date of Patent: August 20, 2002Assignee: Witels Apparate-Maschinen Albert GmbH & Co. Patent number: 6360441Abstract: The present invention relates to improved methods for manufacturing bumper beam assemblies and bumper beam assemblies made by such methods. One method of the invention allows bumper beams of different longitudinal configurations to be made by selecting open cross-sectioned, roll-formed bumper beam members from different sets of beam members and fixing them to bumper beam mounting structures. The mounting structures close off the open cross-section of the bumper beam members. Another method of the invention allows bumper beams for varying applications to be made by selecting bumper beam members from inventory and fixing them to a bumper beam mounting structure.Type: GrantFiled: September 15, 1999Date of Patent: March 26, 2002Assignee: Cosma International Inc.Inventors: Walter Himsl, Jeffrey J. Patent number: 6347539Abstract: In a method of bending a pipe material, in order to use an apparatus, such as a press, and prevent the pipe material from being made thin and cracks from being generated, one side of a cylindrical pipe material is firmly held by a first clamp and another side thereof is loosely held by a second clamp. The clamp is relatively moved downward with respect to the clamp. At this time, pressing force is applied to the pipe material in an axial direction from both ends thereof. The pipe material is plastically deformed by being guided by one quarter spherical surface of a first mandrel and one quarter spherical surface of a second mandrel, whereby two bent portions and an intermediate straight portion are formed.Type: GrantFiled: September 20, 2000Date of Patent: February 19, 2002Assignee: Sango Co. Patent number: 6346211Abstract: A method and apparatus for bending thermoplastic tube in which a pre-heated region of the tube is conformed to a required bend configuration while supported internally and externally to prevent the tube wall collapsing. The external support is provided by relatively movable formers which enclose a section of the tube at the point where the bending force is applied and this enclosed section moves progressively along the heated region as the bend is developed by the relative movement of the formers. The internal support is provided by fluid pressure higher than atmospheric pressure within the tube during the forming operation. Multiple bends can be formed sequentially and/or siitultateously.Type: GrantFiled: September 16, 1999Date of Patent: February 12, 2002Assignee: McKechnie Engineered Plastics LimitedInventors: John Rafferty, Robert Davidson
