By Relatively Movable Offset Tool-faces (e.g., For Bending Or Drawing) Patents (Class 72/380)
  • Patent number: 5481896
Abstract: The present invention relates to an apparatus for bending a sheet die cutting knife to a specified shape, in which a knife is supported by a supporting mechanism and a clamping mechanism in connection with the upper face of the surface plate and bent by a bending mechanism in which the edge portion of the bending die which constitutes the bending mechanism is brought into contact, through vibrations and drive, with the knife side opposite to the direction along which the knife is about to be bent, by alternatively repeating a specified staying time and knife feeding time by the knife feeding mechanism every time such a bending process is carried out. This makes it possible to bend the knife to various shapes by properly changing the operating time of the bending mechanism and the feeding mechanism with a control device.

  • Patent number: 5290166
Abstract: The device includes a left arm (11) and a right arm (10) hingably connected about a protractor scale (12). A left clamp and a right clamp (13 and 13') are slidably attached to the arms such that the spacing between the clamps is adjustable. Locking knobs (24A, 24B, 24A', and 24B') hold the clamps at the desired locations. Left and right socket formers (29 and 29') are slidably attached to the left and right clamps, respectively. Left and right levers (34 and 34') are used to extend the socket formers into a heated pipe (37) placed between the clamps to form integral pipe connecting sockets in the ends of the pipe. (A flexible mandrel is placed inside the pipe to prevent it from collapsing). Bending the arms to a desired angle on the protractor will bend the pipe to the same angle. Locking knob (18) holds the arms in place while the pipe cools. After the pipe is cooled and hardened, the levers are used to retract the socket formers from the pipe to release the pipe.

  • Patent number: 5272643
Abstract: An apparatus for controlling a press brake is advantageously employable for a press brake for which a high operational efficiency and a high working accuracy are required. In response to inputting of working conditions inclusive of a target bending angle for a plate, the apparatus calculates displacement of a load active on a stationary table and a movable table, automatically calculates a quantity of crowning to be adjusted based on results derived from the foregoing calculation and then calculates the present position assumed by the movable in additional consideration of the quantity of crowning to be adjusted, based on results derived from the aforementioned calculations. The press brake accurately bends the plate based on the thus derived quantity of crowing to be adjusted and the present position assumed by the movable table without an occurrence of malfunction of so-called intermediate opening of the bent plate.

  • Patent number: 4553420
Abstract: Apparatus is provided for bending one or two complete rows of leads on a dual-in-line semiconductor package at one time without damaging the leads. The leads of the dual-in-line package are initially in their manufactured position, extending horizontally from the sides of the package and generally parallel to the top and bottom surface thereof. A support anvil is placed under the portion of the lead which is sealed in the semiconductor package, and a punch or bending member is disposed immediately adjacent the outside edge of the handle for performing the actual bending. A sheet of relatively thin metal is formed into a U-shaped channel and the bending member inserted therein before lowering so that as the bending member is lowered, no portion thereof touches the surface of the leads being bent. The sheet of thin metal buffers the bending operation and is interposed between the bottom and side of the bending member and the face of the leads for preventing scratching or damage thereto.

  • Patent number: 4485662
Abstract: A tool is disclosed for adjusting the suspension struts in vehicles, in order to correct wheel camber. A web is bolted to the lug bolts corresponding to the strut being adjusted. A first hydraulically actuated ram is connected to the web and to a portion of the strut, while a second such ram, which pushes in a direction opposite to the first, is connected to a chain which is in turn connected to another portion of the strut. The operator applies hydraulic pressure to the rams, which push and pull on the strut until a predetermined deflection is achieved. Because the rams act on the web in directions opposite to each other, and in approximately the same plane, the forces acting on the web are substantially cancelled, and little force is thereby placed on the lug bolts of the vehicle, which might otherwise deform or destroy the wheel bearings.

  • Patent number: 4220031
Abstract: A corrugated metal sheet is incrementally bent perpendicularly with respect to its corrugations, by repeatedly transversely indenting upwardly the bottoms of the corrugation valleys so that the indentations extend in lines transversely across the sheet and extend into the corrugation sides which interconnect the valleys and ridges of the sheet. Each line of indentation causes the sheet to bend to some degree without detrimental stretching or drawing of the sheet.

  • Patent number: 4103531
Abstract: A method and apparatus for correcting misalignment resulting from a bent strut in a motor vehicle without requiring dismantling. The wheel support and alignment portion of a vehicle includes a wheel supporting hub, a wheel drum through which the hub extends and the strut which is connected between the hub and the frame of the vehicle. The technique comprehends the steps of holding the strut at a point adjacent the portion thereof to be bent, and applying a bending force to the portion of the hub which extends through the wheel drum. A wheel holding device is preferably connected to the wheel drum via the wheel's threaded bolts and lug nuts. The wheel holder has a horizontally extending thrust plate against which the piston of a jack is applied to push either upwardly or downwardly as the correction may require. An auxiliary U-shaped frame may be utilized to support the bending jack when a downward bending force is desired.
